Help Poor width

Sometimes I see this in post match reviews and it leaves me scratching my head. I don't think my players are bundled up, I even switched to the games given tactic and I still see it. Should I be paying any attention to this?

If you are winning games + having fun, then ignore any negative messages like that 👍

If you are struggling, or want to improve your tactic, then - yes - you can test alternatives to search for something potentially even better than what you have now.

At a guess, I’d assume to get that message you either:

  • have fewer wide players than normal (like a 5212 / 532 / 442 diamond tactic).
  • and/or narrow team width instructions
  • and/or mostly inverted player roles like IWB, IW or IFs

If (big ‘if’) you wanted to get rid of that message, then I’d guess that changing one or two of these points would work. But I don’t know how it would affect your tactics & results.

Thoughts? 🙂

@DanEnglish You were right, I changed the 532 to include both midfielders and fullbacks and stopped getting message. I'm still getting pumped and blasted left, right, and center but I see if I had a better team, I might be doing better. Thanks legend.

If you’d like to keep a 532 + you’re NOT a relegation-quality side, then perhaps try a 3142 or (if you’re a top side) 3412.

Both formations are similar to a 532, but (obviously) the wide players are further forward - e.g. either DWs or WMs. If you play that on normal or wide width, then the DCs are often wide enough to cover the flanks defensively.

Just an idea. I love a (more defensively solid) 3142 + many others swear by a (more attacking) 3412 🙂

@DanEnglish If you don't mind me asking, how do have the patience for championship sides getting promotion. No joke, I just deleted the save, couldn't take it. You gave me an idea for the 3142. Once again thanks for the advice legend.

Actually I don’t have that kind of patience. I think I’ve only got promoted once (my GOAT challenge) in the last few versions of FMM. Usually I pick something bizarre or difficult where there’s no chance of promotion - survival is already enough!
