Tactics Yellow Pigeon 😂

Hi everyone,

Finally made my own tactic which has been really successful for me! I’ve tried this across numerous leagues and standards and works well at all levels. I’m currently at Wolves, taking over them rock bottom in the Championship after 20 games having only scored 18 and conceded 31. In the next 26 games we ended up winning the league and ended up with a goal record of 77 scored and 41 conceded.

The goals are spread quite evenly across the 5 attacking players. I tinkered a bit with the striker but noticed DLF was the best option as it kept him onside more and involved in every aspect of the attack chipping in with plenty of goals and assists. Because of this formations attacking format I was racking up around 15-20 shots a game but also most games keeping around 60% possession. Against the weaker teams it’s more like 65% and the better teams 55%. I’ve only played 5 games in the Prem with this Wolves team and have already beaten Man U 1-0 and Arsenal 2-1 making me top.

I also noticed that having 2 CD’s instead of BPD’s meant they didn’t wonder too far up the pitch leaving me exposed. The CD’s still passed the ball around nicely but maintained the defensive line.

Biggest bit of advice I could offer is to search for players you want to buy by the primary attributes recommended by the player role (for eg RPM, DLP, DLF).

Let me know if anyone tries this and how you get one. GL to anyone who does!

played just under half a season more.

this is from a perpsective of a newly promoted to L1 side, so take with a pinch of salt.

- after the "new tactic bounce" i started to observe a few more draws and losses. this were largely from sucker punch counter attacks. I have found it necessary to just shut up shop to defend slender leads by switching to counter attacking mentality. do you have any other such variations worth highlighting?

- i have also been experimenting with variations. based on casual observation 3xRP (yes, DLP-> RP) seems to work abit better? like it holds on to possession better but i am not sure, needs more time.

- otherwise tactic does as advertised. my L1 side even managed to hold a prem side (Wolves) to a draw. the primary strength of the tactic, i find, is that the tactic allows your team to hold on to possesion compared to other tactics.

- i did observe that not much action happens on the IWB/IF side, compared to the WB/IW side. this is despite having my star player on the IF side - he was the top performer when i was using a more symmetrical tactic. could just be a blip, will observe more and report back.

thanks for this!

I have some games which are very close and around the 75th minute mark if I’m only winning 1-0 I switch to control and turn on time wasting. If I need a goal I switch to overload, other than that I don’t do much in game. I haven’t tried 3xRPM’s so unsure how that would actually work, I just felt the DLP and IWB sat in front of the defence and dictated play. As I said in the main post, the biggest thing I can advise is buying players based on primary attributes recommended for each specific role

im currently doing a Wrexham save which after 12 games I have won 11 drawn 1, scored 32 conceding 6. I’ve also beat 2 championship sides in the cup, one was second place in their league at the time.

oh yes, btw, do you have some strategies for acquiring good players at lower levels for this tactic? i've been pretty much acquiring talented players based on scout recommendations.

All I do when buying players is set the price range I can afford then which attributes I want, set them all to 15 and search. If nothing comes up I reduce each to 14 and search again. I keep doing this until I find options and then decide which player best suits what I’m looking for. That’s about as in depth as my recruitment goes 😂

i wanted to share some more findings here. inspired by your suggestions on mentality changes, i originally started going into matches full throttle with Overload, grab an early lead and then spend the rest of the match in Defend.

And what i found was that... Defend holds possession well using this formation. and i mean really, really, well. it's also able to score pretty consistently - obviously no crazy 3 or 4 goal bonanzas, but you should be able to generate enough chances for at least a goal or two, which is enough since you can keep clean sheets more often than not on Defend.

in fact, as an underdog team, my most consistent run of games came when i just started and ended games on Defend.

for those passing by and trying this tactic out, absolutely try this on Defend, especially if you don't have a full strength team yet. once you have a better squad, going on Attack as a default might be better.

Just trying this tactic in April after a poor run of form with Paris FC. Got off to a great start by conceding within the first 5 mins to an own goal. 😆 Ended up coming back and winning the game however.

This tactic has been an improvement to the last one I had used, scoring more goals.

Will report back at the end of the season.

Been using this tactic in a long journey man save. Found it works initially before taking a dip in form (may just be game and not tactic).

Started as unknown unemployed and bounced from small sides to progressing onto Aberdeen where I won a league and league cup before taking a dip in the following season and getting sacked.

Took over Dundee Utd who were in the relegation places and kept them up, before getting the Chelsea job in the summer! I always set my specialty to youth and like to bring through young players and sell them on for big fees! Chelsea had a very old squad and was in the process of rebuilding their side. Got them back into the champions league, finishing third and losing the Europa conference league final to APOEL I think it was, they had a single shot and we battered them but couldn't score, losing 1-0. Again the following season we took a dip in form and I was again sacked.

Proceeded to holiday, applying for jobs. My reputation was at this point continental and I should have taken the Villa job when offered with 100m+ budget in the EPL but waited for something better.

Years started to pass with less and less lucrative job offers, Everton in the championship another I possibly should have taken. My reputation then dropped to National and I've taken the QPR job in the championship but doubt will carry on with this save.

*Off topic, Man Utd ended up yo-yo'ing between the championship and EPL.

The tactic seems to struggle for goals, with the deep lying forward struggling to get into the game at times. Is solid enough defensively but doesn't score enough.

A new save upcoming I think and the search for a good plug and play tactic goes on.
