Help How to Choose the Best Tactics for Lower League Teams in FMM

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'm currently managing a lower league team in Football Manager Mobile 2024, and I'm finding it quite challenging to consistently win matches. The players are not the best, and I don't have much budget for transfers.

Can anyone share some effective tactics or strategies that work well with lower league teams? I'm particularly interested in formations, player roles, and any training tips that could help improve my team's performance.

Thanks in advance for your help!

The best formation I used was a 4-4-2 set to counter attack, 2 wing back ,1 libero, 1 ball playing defender, 2 wingers,2 box to box midfielders, 2 pressing forwards

Fast tempo

Balanced creativity

Narrow or balanced width

Balanced defensive line

All over closing down

Play the offside trap

Shoot on sight or pass into the box

Through balls

Passing focus : centre

passing style : short or mixed

A great question.

Tactics - probably the most balanced popular tactic is the Black Hawk 4123 which you can find by searching this forum. Offensively good, defensively solid. You can tweak it depending on your players.

Players - certainly in previous FMM versions (like FMM23), the uncontracted players available on a free transfer on day 1 (and transfer listed players available for zero fees) are usually better than any VNS / VNL squad. So it’s common to rebuild the whole squad with free transfers.

Loans In - lots of people also abuse the loan market, as there are great players to loan in who will dominate your league. You could have almost an entire first team of loanees all the way from England’s lower leagues to the Championship.

Loans Out - one of my favourite tips in recent years is to bring in free transfers, then loan then out to develop for 1-2 seasons. Maybe only 25% will develop how you want, so get 4 young keepers, and after 1-2 seasons, one of them will  likely be great.

Hope this helps 🙂

Hi @nico89

So a lot depends on your squad’s + best players strengths.

BUT yes the Black Hawk tactic is pretty much proven to work anywhere in the world - critically it gets the best out of your players, but it isn’t a ‘cheat code’ (so it won’t make a rubbish team win the league).

If you want a more attacking version of the Black Hawk, I used my ‘attacking 4213’ tactic in Argentina 🇦🇷 and won the league with it (though it may be also because my squad of loanees was VERY good)
