Chat I Need Advice on Developing Young Talent

Recommended Posts

Hey FM Mobile managers!  🥰

Just started a new save and I'm going all in on building a squad with homegrown heroes.  Thinking about the best ways to turn those academy youngsters into superstars, and I was hoping you all could share your wisdom.

Specifically, I'm curious about:

  • Playing Time vs. Training: How do you strike the balance between giving young players experience and keeping them sharp in training?
  • Positional Training: Any killer training schedules for specific positions like midfielders or strikers?
  • High Potential, Low Ability: Got some youngsters with sky-high potential but current skills that need work. Any advice on how to handle these guys?

I also check this: https://fmmvibe.com/forums/topic/48236-developing-players/qlik But I have not found any solution. Basically, anything you've learned about nurturing young talent in FM Mobile would be amazing.  Hit me with your tips, tricks, and experiences!

Looking forward to building a future champion team!

Thanks!

This is a great type of save 🔥 here’s some tips

Motivational Manager - so I highly recommend selecting ‘motivational’ as your manager speciality. Why? It means your youth academy players will have (mostly) great personalities.

Fitness Coaches - general guidance on the FMM discord is to have mostly ‘fitness’ coaches. Why? This is because physical attributes don’t use up player CA (current ability) points. So you can have physically good players while still leaving CA points for them to grow technically / mentally. Maybe someone else can explain this better.

Facilities - unsurprisingly, improve them as much as you can.

Match Experience - your players need game time. Either in your first team, or out on loan (to a suitable club where they’ll get game time).

Positional Retraining - make sure you retrain them to be ‘natural’ familiarity in whatever position you’ll play them in. Note that their attribute development will slow down / pause if you retrain them to a completely new position or if they have poor / very poor aptitude for learning that position.

Mentors (Personality) - bring in cheap (free transfers?) elderly experienced players to both be backups and great mentors. Preferably any combination of professional, determined, hardworking, consistent, capable under pressure and loyal. Plus

Mentors (Attributes) - on FMM23 I just got free transfer young striker Asante from 13 aerial to 17 aerial using 4x half-rounds of mentoring from experienced 16-17 aerial mentor Tom Elliott. That’s a huge improvement in a key attribute.

There’s another thread called Weiper here where @Scratch shows how he develops youth 🔥 is exceptional

What else did I miss? 🙂

Hi @DanEnglish can I ask please how the mentor trick works in fmm24? When you say 4 half rounds how do you know when it's halfway or when to cancel it to then restart mentor again ?

A half round is where you cancel the mentoring partnership when you receive a news item about it.

@Scratch taught me everything I know about this - and @rseven updated me that mentoring in FMM24 specifically has been updated so save / quit / reload doesn’t give you different mentoring outcomes in the same way FMM23 did.

@DanEnglish @Scratch thanks very much for that both of you that is good info. I'm new to mentoring and trying to get to grips with it. While here can I also ask what are the negative personalities you would avoid when singing new players for you're squad? I'm always hesitant for any negatives personalities I see as I'm not sure what ones are actually ok and what ones should avoid

I think you can NOT fix ‘inflexible’ 🔻 (its opposite - ‘adaptable’ - doesn’t seem to get passed on through mentorship)

But the good news is that you can solve most of the others through mentoring:

- unprofessional => professional.
- lacks determination => determined
- lazy => hardworking
- mercenary => loyal
- wilts under pressure => capable under pressure.
- inconsistent => consistent
- temperamental => don’t know what the opposite is (calm?), but temperamental can disappear through mentoring with a ‘not temperamental’ mentor.

Note - this assumes you know you can click on the personality label (like ‘rash’) and it brings up a pop-up box showing the personality details (this pop-up box was added a few versions ago 👍)

Hope this helps :-)

@DanEnglish Thanks very much for  you're help and info that is amazing! i will need to try and use the mentoring more now with the above details, can i just confirm please the below is correct.

when i use mentoring now to use the above trick, i mentor my player and as soon as i get my first email notification (1-3 months after starting the mentoring) to say mentoring is going good i then cancel mentoring and then re-start it straight away with that same player again?

Yes 👍 it may also say that mentoring isn’t going great ‘not learning much’ or something similar - but as long as it doesn’t stop automatically (‘X has called time on mentoring with Y’) then you’re ok to cancel 👍

Yes - or with a different older mentor, depending on your preferences. Even if the assistant says ‘player X won’t learn anything more from mentoring’, as long as your younger player still can develop more, then mentoring can work again fine 👍

One note about mentoring with the same older mentor repeatedly. If the young player is high potential and improving quickly, and the older mentor is declining quickly, then repeated mentoring with those two players may become less effective - as the younger mentee is getting much better than the older mentor - it can still work, but you may find some negative attribute affects (like lower crossing). Just a note 🙂

ahh that all makes sense, you explain things so well and makes sense thank you for your time and help Dan! appreciated big time.

do you have a list of any very cheap mentors that are good to use by any chance or even any tips on best way for me to search for mentors in game to use please?

I don’t have a list - but I search for older mentors manually:

  • either free transfer signings,
  • expiring contracts (future free transfer signings),
  • transfer listed players (cheaper)
  • loan listed players (free!)

Then I search for players aged 24+ (if there’s a lot of results, then aged 30+), and look through each players personality manually 😱 if you’re looking for a ‘hardworking’ mentor, then another filter for ‘teamwork’ of 15+ should help limit the options!

Edit - the above was if I’m looking for an older mentor to pass on better personality attributes - BUT if I’m looking for an elder mentor to pass on improved aerial - then:

  • filter for a striker
  • aged 24+
  • filter for min 15* aerial
  • filter for MAX 15* leadership / teamwork / aggression*

* I’ll move these numbers up / down depending on how many feasible results are available.

Why do I have a max on leadership / teamwork / aggression? Because if I want to improve the younger strikers aerial, then I need to ensure that aerial is the attribute mentored (not something else)

I tend to "if" have young player who's attitude stinks. I pair with over 24 player with professional attitude. 99 percent of the time it works, with the odd player not taking on those attributes. If that is the case, I release the youth player straight away, as extremely difficult to re train that player and I cba with him in training haha

As above I set a high level of determination, if not determined, you ain't joining my squad
