Prologue:

For anyone familiar with the process of starting a new save file on an Football Manager game, you’ll know that you can parachute in to manage a team of your choosing. But i want something different. Maybe it's because I'm bored of repeating the same routine over and over again. So I'll do things a little differently this time. It won't be the story of a club from the depths to the top. It will not be the story of a sleeping giant who returns to claim a piece of glory. This time, it will be the story of a simple manager trying to fulfill a dream. So i will start the game unemployed. Until the fateful day that some club, take a punt on me. I have 30 years to achieve it

The Begining: (Part 1)

As someone with no past experience or titles, I started the game, spending the days waiting for some club to offer me the manager's position and for me to prove my worth. The days passed, and although Gateshead FC were initially looking for someone to place their dreams and hopes in, apparently I was not the one they wanted to fill the position.

Week after week, I kept waiting for the opportunity to present itself, until one day...

Finally, a club gives me an opportunity to start my career and make a name for myself in the world of football. I gladly accept the offer and in the blink of an eye, I become the new manager of Chippenham Town F.C.

 

I quickly immerse myself in my new job, reviewing the roster of players, their chemistry, as well as the assistant's report to get a complete idea of what I have at my disposal.

Our team is not as good as I would like, and although the board and I hope to achieve a mid-table position, I will have to change several things here if I want to lay the foundations for a solid and competitive team... Looking at the assistant manager's report, they inform us that in our team there is a group of determined, calm, affable and technical players. As well as we have great depth in MC, WL, AMC and ST positions... Although in its counterpart, our team lacks leadership, fitness, speed and we do not have depth in the GK and FBR position. In addition, morale is low, we are over the budget for salaries and as if that were not enough, not only did the rival clubs have a field day hiring free players who make a big difference in the vanarama, but also my predecessor used 5 of the 6 long-term loans allowed, they are all useless players and I can't keep them to add depth because my club pays their salary 100%... Oh boy, this will be a hard job, although I have a long preseason ahead to be able to change many things.

El comienzo: (Parte 2)

Tras un primer paso conociendo las instalaciones del club, sus empleados y demás, me fui directamente a buscar jugadores libres para reforzar la plantilla. Aunque, como había comentado antes, muchos ya habían sido contratados, afortunadamente para nosotros todavía quedaban otros cuyo nivel podía tener un gran impacto en la competición y darnos esperanzas de que quizás podamos ir más allá de las ambiciones propuestas por la directiva. Así, tras un intenso mercado de fichajes, adquirimos ciertos talentos libres, utilizamos los préstamos que nos quedaban (algunos de los cuales tienen opción de compra por tan solo 5K), con otros que fueron fichados gratis ya que sus clubes no eran necesarios y además logramos comprar a dos futuras estrellas de las que se hablará más adelante. Todo esto fue posible ya que nos deshicimos de aquellos que no serían tomados en cuenta y que nos han dejado un pequeño presupuesto que nos será muy útil en el futuro. Cabe destacar que la mayoría de los jugadores de la plantilla eran muy jóvenes, por lo que fueron cedidos para que pudieran desarrollarse y quizás ser útiles en el futuro.

Now our squad has much more quality. I'm happy to say that all the players are very young and talented, but I will only highlight our stars.

Our striker Hamzad Kargbo with 17 in headers, brought free from QPR.

Kallum Cesay, young star of the Sierra Leone national team who will be used as both a right wing back and a box-to-box midfielder if necessary.

Reece Hannam, whom we brought in for free despite being injured for 4 months (he will miss the entire preseason and the first games) because his quality will give us several options on the left wing when he is 100% fit.

And finally, our second striker Owen Oseni, brought in from Chesterfield for free, who was given the task of not making things easy for Kargbo.

Obviously, the plan also reached the club's employees, so after giving some thumbs down, I brought in Michael Cheverton as our fitness coach, Ian Butterworth as a scout and Ema Lee as a physio. While Matt Coupe isn't what I have in mind for the club, I didn't want to give up so much money in my first season, so I'll let him stay for a while.

After so much time spent between players and employees, I was finally able to get into the tactical and preseason part, arranging two friendlies a week until the first league match arrives. The results left me more than satisfied considering that I had played a mix of easy matches to boost morale and some complicated ones to test my players.

We are at the door of the season, with my team more than ready for the coming challenge. The fans of Chippenham Town F.C. and the board will be attentive to our performance throughout the year. Looking at the fixture, we are not the favorites at all, but I trust my players. The road to the dream has already begun, will it come true?.

The Begining: (Part 3)

We had finished our preseason in a more than satisfactory manner, with zero defeats, zero injuries and the team more than ready for the challenge that Vanarama South proposed... The board had made it clear that it was aiming for a mid-table position, but I I took a risk and proposed reaching the playoffs due to the level the team showed and the small but necessary increase in the salary and transfer budget... The question was: Could we take the good play from the preseason to the league? Or did I get carried away by my ambition?

Mid-Season  (From August 5 to December 16)

Our first 10 games would be very disputed, tight, those kinds of games where "whoever scores the first goal wins." The specialized press did not opt for any side, and when it did, it favored the rival as the favorite. Even so, we managed to obtain 7 wins along with 3 draws and show that we could fight at the top of the standings... However, we had to improve certain aspects since as the matches went by, we got closer and more so to a series of games where clearly, we were going to have a very bad time... For our first FA Cup match, we were paired with a Horsham side who were looking to cause a surprise by having home advantage. Even the press predicted that the game could go either way, but nothing could be further from that... Not only did we have a pleasant surprise when my assistant informed me that a new talent emerged from the youth team to take into account, called Jimmy Pyke ( Who I will talk about later) but thanks to his spectacular performance we dominated the contest from start to finish, scoring a total of 6 goals (3 from our young talent and 3 from Kargbo, whose assistant was none other than Pyke) against 1 of a beaten rival. This created a turning point for both the team and me, and I decided to make big changes to build a team around our new star... Players who were not measuring up, like our winger Yasin Ben El-Mhanni, the goalkeeper Will Henry and all the young promises that we gave up were transferred to generate money that was then invested in bringing in more talents to prolong the good game and maintain our undefeated in the competition... The change was significant, we went from fighting to win to showing signs of greatness on the field of play, facing even higher-class teams. As in the case of the next round of the FA Cup, where we eliminated Dorking after tying both games and leaving them out on penalties. Beating Truro as a visitor. We tied as a visitor with Forest Green in the first round of the FA Cup. Victories against Chelmsford/Weston SM and a play-off match against Forest Green in which, despite having lost, we left experts and fans speechless as we were close to ringing the bell... Things couldn't have gone better, despite having been eliminated from the cup, we still had the league and the FA Trophy left, for which we are still in the third round... December found us leaders, being the team with the highest score, the one with the fewest goals conceded, undefeated. With a roster of new figures and stars who are beginning to deliver what was expected of them... Will we be able to make history in our first season?
