The Setup:

This is an Attacking 4-3-3 system, focused on possession, high pressing, and quick transitions. Here’s how the roles break down:

Player Roles Explained:Screenshot_2024-09-27-20-50-09-314_com.netflix_NGP.FootballManagerMobile.thumb.jpg.a52c2a6f9f90cefeebc053b9f00983dd.jpg

1. Goalkeeper (G) - Marc-André ter Stegen

The goalkeeper here is tasked with playing out from the back, just like Ter Stegen did in 2015. He’s calm under pressure and comfortable with the ball at his feet. The emphasis is on short passes to keep possession and build attacks from deep rather than going long. Ter Stegen's distribution is key to maintaining Barça's possession-based style.

2. Full-Back (FB) - Jordi Alba

On the left, Jordi Alba plays as a Full-Back (FB). His role is to get up and down the flank, offering both defensive solidity and attacking support. He doesn’t push as high as a wing-back but provides enough width to complement Neymar's inward movement. Alba’s pace and stamina allow him to cover the whole left side, both helping out in defense and overlapping when necessary.

3. Ball-Playing Defender (BPD) - Gerard Piqué

Piqué plays as the Ball-Playing Defender (BPD), stepping out from defense to start attacks. He’s comfortable carrying the ball forward and looking for incisive passes between the lines. This role is critical for building from the back and finding Busquets or Rakitic to transition from defense to attack smoothly.

4. Central Defender (CD) - Javier Mascherano

Mascherano is the Central Defender (CD), a no-nonsense, tough-tackling center-back. His role is primarily defensive, providing cover for Piqué’s forward ventures. He’s quick to step in and win challenges, making him the defensive backbone who holds the line when the team pushes forward. He also contributes to the offside trap that’s employed here.

5. Wing-Back (WB) - Dani Alves

On the right, we have Dani Alves as the Wing-Back (WB). Alves in 2015 was essentially an extra winger, pushing high up the field and overlapping Messi on the right. His job is to provide width, put in crosses, and combine with Messi and Rakitic. He’s a constant attacking outlet, while also tracking back to support the defense. The Look for Overlap instruction really shines here, as it allows Alves to make dangerous runs when Messi drifts inside.

6. Deep-Lying Playmaker (DLP) - Sergio Busquets

Busquets, as the Deep-Lying Playmaker (DLP), is the heartbeat of the team. He sits in front of the defense, dictating the tempo of the game with his calm passing and positional awareness. He breaks up opposition attacks and ensures smooth transitions from defense to attack. This role is all about recycling possession and keeping things ticking over. Busquets’ intelligence and positioning allow the more attacking players to focus on breaking down the opposition.

7. Central Midfielder (CM) - Ivan Rakitic

Rakitic operates as a Central Midfielder (CM), and his role is incredibly dynamic. He’s the box-to-box engine of the team, constantly supporting both attack and defense. He’ll drop deep to help Busquets build from the back, but also make runs into the final third to offer a goal threat or link up with Alves and Messi. Rakitic’s work rate and intelligence allow him to cover a lot of ground, balancing the team’s defensive and offensive responsibilities.

8. Attacking Playmaker (AP) - Andrés Iniesta

Iniesta is in his element as the Attacking Playmaker (AP). He’s the creative hub, pulling the strings in midfield, constantly looking for space to exploit. Iniesta will dribble, pass, and play killer balls into the forwards. His role is to create chances and unlock defenses with moments of brilliance. He connects the midfield to the attack, often linking up with Neymar and Messi while also supporting Suarez with quick interchanges in tight spaces.

9. Inside Forward (IF) - Lionel Messi

Messi, playing as the Inside Forward (IF) on the right, is essentially the primary creative and goal-scoring outlet. Drifting in from the right wing, Messi looks to cut inside onto his stronger left foot, either to shoot or find through balls for Neymar or Suarez. His movement and interplay with Suarez and Iniesta create overloads in central areas. Messi also often drops deep to pick up the ball and dictate play, making him a threat from all over the pitch.

10. Inverted Winger (IW) - Neymar

Neymar takes on the role of Inverted Winger (IW) on the left. Like Messi, he cuts inside onto his stronger foot, but from the left, creating chances for himself and others. Neymar’s role is to take on defenders, create space, and link up with the midfield. His dribbling and pace stretch the defense, and when he cuts inside, Alba provides the width on the overlap. Neymar's versatility means he can score, assist, or pull defenders out of position, making him a constant threat.

11. Central Forward (CF) - Luis Suarez

Up top, you’ve got Luis Suarez as the Central Forward (CF). He’s not just a finisher, but a relentless presser, constantly harrying defenders and forcing mistakes. Suarez drops deep to link play, holds up the ball, and makes intelligent runs to create space for Neymar and Messi. He’s always in the right place to finish off chances, and his work rate sets the tone for the rest of the team when pressing high up the pitch.

The Key Instructions:Screenshot_2024-09-27-20-50-21-264_com.netflix_NGP.FootballManagerMobile.thumb.jpg.17d7e1a04711b362fa9214490e9f1c11.jpg

Look for Overlap: With both Messi and Neymar cutting inside, this instruction allows Dani Alves and Jordi Alba to bomb forward and stretch the play on the wings. This creates width and provides crossing opportunities, while the inside forwards create chaos centrally.

Work into the Box: No hopeful long shots here—just patient build-up, waiting for the perfect moment to break through the defense with precise passes and movement.

Short Passing: True to Barcelona’s DNA, this tactic emphasizes keeping the ball and playing through the lines. It ensures the team dominates possession and controls the tempo.

High Defensive Line & All-Over Pressing: A high press forces the opposition into mistakes, while the high line keeps the team compact and ready to recycle possession quickly.

Conclusion:

This tactic recreates the magic of the 2015 Barcelona squad, with Messi and Neymar cutting inside to wreak havoc, Suarez leading the line with non-stop pressing, and a solid yet creative midfield built around Busquets, Rakitic, and Iniesta. The full-backs, Alves and Alba, provide the width and overlaps, while Piqué and Mascherano hold things down at the back. It’s a possession-dominant system that presses high, moves the ball fast, and works the ball into dangerous areas with precision.

(The top scorer, the RW is a regen I signed from Sevilla. Had a bit Messi like qualities, cuts inside, shoots from distance, moves between channels, tries killer ball often.)

I'll really be glad if someone improves this tactic more. But I think it's the best way to cover the 2015 Barca squad. Feel free to suggest changes.
