Career Scratch Tries - 200 Goals in a Season for SvP

A while back, @deepheat83 successfully got a striker to 200 goals in a season. I already had a save going to test out a new 1KC tactic of mine and I added the 200 goal target as one of the things I'd like to achieve.

 

About the save

I haven't played FMM that much this year, but keep coming back to it every so often. None of my careers have really stuck, except this one, which has been rolling on in the background. 

Shaqueel van Persie is the striker and Celtic are the club. I haven't bothered to write it up - I'm basically following the tips in my Introducing The WEIPER - How To Make A Goal Scoring Legend post, but using a different tactic. 

 

About the tactic

I might write it up sometime, but I may as well share the formation here, given I've shared it on Discord a number of times:

It looks weird, but works well. The idea is to stretch the defenders wide, leaving less players marking our lethal forward, then cross it into him. Most assists are from the wingers, but the PFs are basically Ws too, with high crossing, and they provide some assists too. It goes without saying you need a very very strong squad to achieve the numbers you'll see below.

 

About the player

SvP is indeed lethal:

The Run In

Did I say we enter the story with 5 seasons already in the bag? Actually, we enter the story with either 7 or 8 games left to go (spoiler: We make it the UCL final, so it's 8 games):

And our hero is on 177 goals from 55 games:

Meaning he needs 23 goals from 8 games, at a rate of 2.875 goals per game. That's a definite possibility!

 

Let's go!

First up, Barcelona at home and he scores 2 goals: 

 

Next, Aberdeen away and he scores another 2. I was really hoping for more, as this leaves him needing more than 3 a game (19 from 6):

 

 

Then it's away at Barcelona and he only scores 1:

 

It's not disaster stations yet - he needs 18 goals from 5 games (3.6 goals per game), but he has a few easier games coming. Fortunately Hearts at home is the perfect game to settle the nerves and he scores 4 to get him back on track:

 

Next, it's Motherwell at home and it's another 6 in the bag:

 

Which leaves him needing 8 goals from the final 3 games: Hibs away, Rangers at home and Atletico in the UCL final. He should get that right?

Well the next game makes it seem a certainty:

 

He only needs 2 goals from 2 games. Maybe he can get it against our old enemies Rangers in the cup final and avoid any pressure in the UCL final? 

Nope, he can only score one, despite having 12 shots (6 on target). He had one disallowed too... 

 

Which leaves him needing 1 goal in the UCL final... 

 

And you won't believe what happens in the UCL final! 

Oh, I was just about to tell you all about it, but it's after midnight here, on Christmas Eve and I have to get to bed before Santa gets here!

Love this. You’d be gutted if he got an early red card / injury!

PS. You didn’t decide to also train his aggression? I wonder if he’d score more if his aggression was 15-16 ish? I genuinely don’t know, but it’s the only other ‘fine margin’ I can think of.

SvP is a fantastic option in FMM24 - low CA and high PA = lots of development!

With the Final Winter Database option turned on, he'll get around 13 updates (based on his default PA, but of course it can be higher or lower) and with it turned off, he'll get around 15 updates. That's a LOT of development and means it's not that hard to turn him into something like the above.

Yeah, I left his aggression alone. If it was any lower I probably would have focused on it and I do sort of like 15 for most players. But 12 is fine given his strength in the other attributes that matter Aerial, Movement, Pace in particular, also Shooting, Decisions, Strength, Stamina. The lad's gonna score and a bit more aggression probably won't make much difference - I doubt there are many match engine decisions where it looks at all of those other attributes and the lack of aggression costs him.

It wasn't anyone for his attacking attributes, it was all about improving his hidden mental attributes (ie the screenshot in the previous comment).

I normally go for Giroud (or maybe Dzeko), but couldn't get them, so I just went for mid-level past-it non-striker players with great personality, like Zeca, Medel and Fathy. These guys mentored most of the team, along with Callum MacGregor.

None of them are strikers, so they don't help his striker attributes, maybe even lead to a slight decrease, but you can give a player an amazing personality by repeatedly mentoring them with players like these - even if they are the wrong position. Just wait for the making progress (or not making progress) message and cancel, then rinse and repeat. Each time you cancel, one of the mentor's hidden attributes will (normally) be passed on in full. When the mentor personality is amazing, it means every time you cancel something great will be passed on.

Well the formation is above. I'm playing Balanced, Wide, Fast (though don't turn this on until you have a mega team). Normal line, high press. Early crosses, through balls, short, centre. 

BUT:

• I do change the instructions from time to time. Like @deepheat83 said on his 200 post "I keep changing set up. What works for a short time doesn't work for a long time" - I find this too.
• This tactic isn't gonna work (or at least isn't gonna work anywhere near the way you see here) if you just try it with a default team, even someone like Man City. You need to get the right players for the tactic (a great TF, very fast defenders, wingers and PFs with great crossing, etc) and they need to be the best, or capable of growing into the best
• And you need to do a bunch of other stuff like mentor the F out of all the players, set up friendlies for your reserves to make sure your youngsters are developing as best they can etc.

This is not a quick win tactic that will just work by itself, if that's what you're looking for. You need to do a whole bunch of work if you want it to work well. Maybe go read my posts for further background:

Alright - he needs one goal in the UCL final against Atletico to reach 200 in the season.

There's only been game in the whole season where he hasn't scored, so it's no surprise that he scores - but he did make me wait until the 66th minute:

I was a bit annoyed that it showed his UCL total in the pop up. I was playing on slow with the highlights on so I could catch the "200 goal of the season" message and instead I get the UCL one...

 

Anyway, he score one more near the end (no subbing off in the final game of the season):

 

Leaving him on 201 goals for the season:

 

Only just! Luckily no injuries this season and a big reason for the jump over the previous season is that he's a bit older and his Stamina is a bit higher, meaning he no longer gets tired all the time.

He's still only 22, so I guess I will push on for a while and see where I can him too. He should get even better, though it's hard to imagine...

I played 3 seasons with Sesko at Newcastle using the same tactic:

Not sure if 200 would be possible, but I think later in the save he'd be up there towards it. I was surprised he did so well.

As for Haaland, anything is possible with that lad! I actually used him for testing this tactic, but it was just a few games played again and again with different tactics, not a career. Here's a screenshot I kept showing how the defenders were pulled away from the striker, leaving him with just one defender:

Maybe he could go for 200, but I don't really like using him for actual saves as I like shaping young strikers into exactly what I need.

Did I really make a big drama about whether he'd make it to 200 goals with 1 game remaining? 

Yes, yes I did...

But I shouldn't have, because waiting around the corner was this little thing called the club world championship... 

There were 2 more games and 5 more goals before the season numbers were finalised, leaving him with 206 goals for the season:

Incredible!!! 😂😂 Although u did it even 2 years back !!! without int . Goals !!!!! and with int goals u can score 200 In epl or spanish league also if u try !! I figured out everything but I don't know when I should change my tactics in game !!! Although i scored 800+ goals in 6 season in TT I never change any instructions in any game !!! I m trying to complete all 3 goals scoring challenge in 1 save !!! Means scoring over 3700 goals between 3 strikers !!!

Oppositions 3 at back cause many problems for me and some time they use even BWM with 3 CD !!!

Been contemplating trying this in England as it is pretty much the only other league that gives you enough games.

 

Just cant find the motivation for such a long slog again.

I've not been playing much but loaded up a game at the weekend, thinking about trying out my tactic with an English team but not sure who.

 

Might go against the grain and try it with a less obvious team, going to test the water 1st once I am happy with what I have

Thanks! My 3 season Sesko save made it look like England could actually be easier than I thought. I still have a built-in "England? No way!" response for stupid feats saves, but it might be doable - with a very very strong squad of course.

At the other end, I remember Ireland from a couple of years ago, when I think we both tried our luck there. A bit of a slog and hard to pay for decent players, but if you can find the right player and build a team of wonderkids to support him, that could be really good too.

But for now I'll keep going with SvP in Scotland, just very very very slowly. I don't think I've played for a couple of weeks now. I am very hot and cold this year. Spend a lot more time playing another game these days - but I'll never give up FMM!

If they ever would add Brazil on FMM, we might see a lot of careers there since iirc you play around 70-80 games per season
