Hi everyone, recently I've faced Rotherham in FA cup round and no matter what tactics/formation or lineup I try, I can't manage to beat them.I will attach screenshots as well.In first leg I've managed to draw the match 2-2, but second leg is impossible. Please let me know how could I counter them or their formation because whenever I play them even if I manage to get early lead they turn the match over, best result that I got was probably 2-1, and the worst was something like 6-1/6-0.Also I have to mention that my current formation is copied from some other user from this forum.Screenshot_2025-01-03-22-55-24-806_com_sega.soccer.eleven.thumb.jpg.13c123184a3f001ae553738ed17399ea.jpgScreenshot_2025-01-03-22-55-27-155_com_sega.soccer.eleven.thumb.jpg.2fcbc8b012769d731af17deb261ea670.jpgScreenshot_2025-01-03-22-55-34-476_com_sega.soccer.eleven.thumb.jpg.1b3c64de2ff7817355ba59e671e20010.jpgScreenshot_2025-01-03-22-55-31-476_com_sega.soccer.eleven.thumb.jpg.a9817a16a69844276055ee5aaaa64248.jpgScreenshot_2025-01-03-22-54-48-553_com_sega.soccer.eleven.thumb.jpg.c1a3a465b7ac52140dd256d168e2d94e.jpg

One question and one suggestion.

Question - have you been watching the goal replays or highlights. If yes, what kind of goals are you conceding?

  • Example - Rotherham usually have a pretty aerially dominant side, so if they are ‘scoring many headers from corners’ then it wouldn’t be a surprise.
  • Example - the opposition’s 343 DM formation can often give a front 5 when their WBs push forward. That could be overloading your back 4, if ‘their WBs progress the ball in wide areas, then often an IF / ST is unmarked to shoot from a central position’

Suggestion - without knowing how the opposition scores, try:

  • putting your DWs on ‘man-mark’ - so they provide more defensive cover by following the opposition WBs.
  • in the first 5-10 mins of the match, check the opposition formation and see if any of their DMCs has an RP role. If yes, try changing your MC on that side to be a BWM or Anchor to cover that opposition RP’s runs forward

You are so right about everything, I watched the game many times and it is always goals with the header and if not header it is some banger goal from outside the box. Also I didn't get many shots and goals in any of these matches. But usually whenever my team scores it is either from cross or through ball when player gets 1 on 1 with opposition gk.Thank you so much for these suggestions I will try them and come back with results.

So this is how they come out every time.It is always this formation and sometimes just swap players at mc and amc.I tried putting my mc on anchor or bwm and it helps temporarily but in the end I always lose 2-0/3-0. They still manage to get ball im the box with crosses and score headers and also they still manage to score outside the box.I haven't seen them score in any other way than that.Since they change formation when match starts to this one with amc and two forwards what can I do, how can I exploit that? Please let me know what you thinkScreenshot_2025-01-04-13-30-12-542_com_sega.soccer.eleven.thumb.jpg.27f3f0288823dd3b08d89fda03e8e497.jpgScreenshot_2025-01-04-13-27-06-295_com_sega.soccer.eleven.thumb.jpg.db0f2451d8e9f23e75699d8f49f2c359.jpgScreenshot_2025-01-04-13-17-40-610_com_sega.soccer.eleven.thumb.jpg.1952f5ec5a8eb677d912b867c78ede0e.jpg

Ah they’re using a different formation. And they’re destroying you.

Here’s their 5212 formation, with your 442 formation in the extra yellow dots …

IMG_4298.jpeg.56f44449cdc4ba64bf2f0c9bf310ad8b.jpeg

Problem
Their AMC is completely free. Unmarked. Has space and time. He’ll destroy you. Their 3 man midfield will overrun your 2 man midfield, and one of their players (probably the AMC) will be free / unmarked.

Solution
You need a DMC.

Suggestion
Either move one of your STs back to be a DMC - to make a more defensively solid 4141, with the same back 4 that you currently have …

… or remove your 2 FBs, change to an extra DC + a DMC - to make a 3142 formation, with the same front 6 that you currently have

🙂

(PS. Ideally you’d also destroy their DMC area by having an AMC of your own, in that white shaded area - but I’ll let you figure out if you want to do that or not 😉)

Have you ever faced some match that was impossible to win, because I think this one is impossible. For example even when my team played perfectly defence allowing them fewer shots with just one on target and conceding just one goal they always score in additional time like last 2min or so. It never stayed 1 goal difference just 2 or more. I think 4141 is best answer to their formation and lineup but never enough to win.

Maybe they are just better than you?

Ive played a lot of lower league saves, where you play against a top club in a domestic cup. They are so much better than my team that a 0-2 loss is a respectable result for me - just like in real life.

Alternatively / if you really want to try to win - make sure your 1st team players and subs are at max morale and fitness / condition. Every little helps 😉
