Chat Why are the IFs so bad?

I have played with many teams in fm24 mobile. One common theme I've seen every single time is that the inside forwards are basically just useless... A world class inside forwards struggles to get more than 15 g/a in a season. Like even when I try a false 9 system, the inside forwards just can't score goals and most of their assists are from set pieces. Anyone know why this is? And any fix for this ?

Move them higher up the pitch they're more effective there.

When I do that, they just stay up forward like a wide target forward and don't defend when out of possession

That’s correct.

Deeper IFs seem to do more defensive work, but are positioned deeper so are less effective offensively.

Advanced IFs seem to do less defensive work, but are positioned higher up so a more effective offensively.

You kinda need to pick which type you want

PS. Here’s my IFs’ stats from three different saves (FMM23)

All three are title winning teams, so of course the IFs numbers are higher than a mid-table team.

🇺🇸 Homegrown MLS Save.
Mid-way through season 5 (?)
- my best IF has 1.7 g+a / game
- other IFs have ~0.5 g+a / game

Thanks, i guess I'll just have to sacrifice on the defending part a bit. But your explanation was really helpful, thanks.
