FM Mobile Complete Player Development Guide

Posted (edited)

As a longtime player of FMM, I'm often surprised by the lack of comprehensive guides available for player development.

After countless hours honing my skills and strategies, I decided it was time to share my knowledge.

Welcome to the ultimate guide for developing players in Football Manager Mobile! Whether you’re a veteran manager or just starting out, this guide will help you optimize player training and development.

1. Training Facilities and Coaches

Training Facilities

To ensure your players develop to their full potential, world-class training facilities are essential.

If your club hasn’t maxed out its training facilities yet, go to the board request section and ask for "improve training facilities."

IMG_4681.thumb.PNG.6db14ba9f3ec22ea4b1ca2f9445b6730.PNG

Coaches

Employing a set of gold coaches with natural aptitude is crucial. You also couldn't go wrong with coaches with a higher reputation.

My personal preference is to maintain a balanced portfolio of "Youth, Attacking, Defending, Fitness, and Goalkeeping" coaches.

This combination has yielded excellent results for me, but I encourage you to experiment with different mixes based on your team's unique needs.

2. Regen System

The regen system is my absolute favourite feature of FMM.

Legendary players like Messi and Ronaldo will have regens with the same potential ability as they did in their prime.

Once you master regen tracking, it is really simple to create your own version of superteam!

Tracking Regens

Regens usually appear on July 1st after a player retires on June 30th (but may also pop up randomly between July and August).

Regens share the same nationality, natural position, and weak foot combinations, making them easier to spot.

Generating Better Regens

To find better regens, utilize the “save and reload” method until you find a desirable player.

Focus on younger regens (ages 15-16) and those with superior total attributes.

IMG_4686.thumb.PNG.c8b7d1ee9053e84b882116cef972f325.PNGIMG_4644.thumb.PNG.6a8a71770e9f93370da4eec87e73aade.PNG

3. Training and Matches

Understanding player development is key. Monitor the “development center” page where players gain experience through matches.

Players get upgraded attributes when their progress bar fills. Good match performance fills the progress bar more quickly.

In the below example, Haaland and Calleja is one match away from attribute upgrades.

Utilize the "save and reload" method for desirable upgrades (if you are a hardcore gamer that is).

 IMG_4680.thumb.PNG.74fbb1ad53dcc32116e2ebfbbaac9723.PNG

Role-Specific Training

Players can be trained in various roles to enhance specific attributes.

Don't be afraid to train players in different positions and tactical roles along their growth journey.

Let's say you want to develop an all-round midfielder. You can develop him in Central Midfielder role for defensive attributes, then Winger/Central Forward role for attacking attributes.

IMG_4687.thumb.PNG.d0f65305ff12e507c0c4e232eb1c156e.PNG

Key Attributes by Category

Ever wondered how to interpret the below training progress graph? Now you do.

  • Attacking: Crossing, dribbling, passing, shooting, technicality, movement
  • Defending: Aerial, tackling, positioning
  • Mental: Aggression, creativity, decision, leadership, teamwork
  • Physical: Pace, stamina, strength
  • Goalkeeping: Aerial, agility, communication, handling, kicking, reflexes, throwing, positioning

IMG_4685.thumb.PNG.115b187b3d025047bc959ef3ab613e1f.PNG

4. Mentoring and Personality

Young players can benefit significantly from mentorship, gaining both attribute increases and desirable personalities.

Choosing Mentors

Each player can undergo two rounds of mentoring.

Positive traits can be transferred from the mentor to the player upon the completion of the mentorship.

Select good mentors with nice personalities for your young players, like Kane for attackers and Kimmich for defenders.

IMG_4688.thumb.PNG.e54a7aaf17e01705da8590df92703083.PNG

Desired Personalities

I always want my players to obtain the “hardworking” personality as it is the only trait that give you bonus attribute increase (teamwork).

My personal second favourite is the “professional” personality, followed by "determined".

Use the "save and reload" method to achieve the desired results. Look for the message “work rate has improved” to confirm a teamwork attribute boost.

IMG_4690.thumb.PNG.d5007a8616c8322f214787ca5c1ce375.PNG

5. Position Retrain

Retraining players in different positions not only enhances their versatility but also grants additional attribute increases.

Position-Specific Improvements

From my experience, each new position can provide a maximum of a +2 attribute boost. For instance:

  • A CF retrain may improve shooting and creativity attributes.
  • A WF retrain may improve crossing and dribbling attributes.
  • A CB retrain may improve positioning and tackling attributes.

Train your young players in multiple positions while they are still open to it, as they may refuse position retraining as they age.

You can start with training players in positions where they have at least "reasonable" aptitude, but in fact "poor" aptitude would work fine too.

Final Thoughts

With these strategies, you'll be well on your way to developing your best wonderkids in FM Mobile. Happy training, and may your team achieve great success!

Great guide. Is exceptionally well written and structured.

I slightly disagree on the choice of coaches (usually prefer 3-4 fitness coaches, as physicals don’t use up PA points), but except for that I completely agree, plus have never thought of using exit-reload to get better regens - genius!

Overall a great guide! 🔥

Hey Dan, nice to see you around!

I guess the choice of coaches really depends on the team's composition and stage of development. Once you master tracking regens, building a superteam (Messi, Ronaldo, Ramos, Neuer...) becomes quite easy. That's why imho you certainly need attacking, defending, and goalkeeping coaches to help these legendary regens reach their full potential, or they'll get stuck with "need improved specialist coaching" at some point.

That said, I'm interested in learning more about the PA points theory for fitness coaches. Also, does having 1 fitness coach make a difference compared to having 4?

In this situation you are likely 100% correct - my bad 👍

Seems so. Apparently physical attribute growth does NOT use up CA / PA points.

So if you have a 4* PA youngster, then it’s more ‘development efficient’ to max out their physicals (e.g. +15 pace / stamina / strength) with fitness coaches. Hope that makes sense.

great guide, well done.

After years of playing I have come to the conclusion that over-developing your players leads to total domination and the game loses interest due to lack of difficulty. Unfortunately in the development of the season the opposing teams managed by the CPU never have an impressive path. Almost always the second in the standings or the third cannot keep up with the user. In the standings the top teams managed by the CPU suffer too many defeats.

A notable gap is created:

my team 90 points

2nd in the standings 78

3rd in the standings 75

(for example)

if the second could reach 88, and the third 86 it would all be much more exciting. Unfortunately the CPU teams lack in this area.

Nice article. Two questions.

1) What do you mean by exit and reload for getting better regens?

2) I thought it wasn't worth it to retrain a player in a position he has zero familiarity. I thought the player rarely makes progress and it may affect his morale.

Quit / close down the game. Reload a save from the previous day.

At least in FMM23 - you often can retrain a player in a position where he has (a) zero familiarity, and (b) at least ‘very poor’ aptitude to learn that position … though it may take a full season to learn.

However it seems to slow their development during this period, so with lower PA players (like in lower leagues), I usually try to fully develop their attributes first, then retrain their positions later.

The morale hit is minor, so I ignore it as you can praise their training / form / keep winning matches to mitigate this minor morale hit.

Just to supplement, I think many people might not realize that position retraining can actually bring additional attribute boosts. So it is always good to retrain players in multiple positions imo.

These boosts are specific to the position; for example, a CF retrain may see improvements in shooting and creativity, while a WF retrain may enhance crossing and dribbling.

My GOAT player Villalba received his final two attribute upgrades (positioning and tackling) by retraining him to the CB position 😉

Was going to say haha, fantastic guide, just let down by that 😕

Actually, whether you believe it or not, no editor was used. Here's my first screenshot of the player and his stats was already pretty insane at 16 y.o.

You can also check out my previous post around a year ago, where I came quite close to achieving this (and developed many nice players across multiple FMM versions):

Let's just say I've been playing this game for so long and have excelled at player training. Developing the perfect player is what motivated me to make this post.

You just let yourself down there buddy, that screenshot shows his positioning, on the 1st post, same.player all 20s, plus all positioning. You can play the game however you like buddy, just I've been playing a long long time. And I know that no player can achieve complete 20s, it's impossible without using some sort of cheat to get to that.

Bro, sorry to say this, but just because YOU can't do it doesn't mean it's impossible..

I also looked into the Hex editor you guys mentioned. Isn't it ironic that no one in that thread can actually make the perfect player like I do?

Thanks for letting me know how good I am— even-hex-editor-can't beat-me good 🔥

Anyhow, my goals are not your goals. As long as we’re enjoying the game, that’s what really matters.

Haha, OK you keep kidding yourself buddy, whatever 😂😂😂 love it when I see a AML that can play play back, centre back and right back at the same time, with tackling of 20 and full stats of 20 🤣🤣🤣🤣
