Help DMs don't pass.

Recommended Posts

for whatever reason, my DMs almost never seem capable of dictating possession.

i'm not sure if it's a role issue or a formation issue, but i'm certain it isn't a player one.

can someone please help me figure out what the issue(s) might be?

forgot to add: this is particularly annoying because my opposition don't have this issue. their DMs help circulate possession just fine (better than their CMs), irregardless of how bad their Passing or Decisions may be.

Great question and screenshots!

So firstly, your DM is still your #2 for completed passes. That’s good right?

Secondly, could you share the attack instructions you’re using? E.g. a short, central passing focus should help? 😉

Thirdly, could you share what opposition formations PSG + Barca used against you? Any opposition with an AMC will mean your DM is often marked / covered.

Fourthly - SOLUTIONS! - try changing the DM to a DLP role and/or moving down to defensive mentality. The DLP will roam more around the DMLC/DMRC positions to receive the ball, and the defensive mentality will ask your players to make safer / less risky passes.

Thoughts? 🙂

hm. would playing Defensive really help with controlling possession? i'd been thinking about something along the lines of how City's DMs are essentially tasked with keeping things ticking while they're on the offensive — leading to them having a large amount of passes. would this be possible with Defensive on? another thing is, i play a high line with intense pressure, and both Central and Short Passing already enabled.

btw, yeah. i guess it's nice that he comes in second sometimes (sometimes, not all the time, actually).

i just don't understand why my opps' DMs literally always have the most passes (for them) whenever they're on the field, but my DM can't replicate it when we play significantly more possession-oriented football than a large chunk of said opps.

Team mentality, Tempo and Pass style are also two factors on your question.
Low team mentality, like you said "Defensive",  "Slow" Tempo, "Short" Pass.
