Last season's goal count was affected by injuries, but we're coming back strong this season!

Jose's teammates are even better now. In fact, towards the end of this season, 7 out of the top 10 players in the scouting agency were from my team.

Several of them have maxed out their crossing attribute. They're the perfect fit for my tactic—focusing on sending in as many crosses as possible for Jose's headers.

2030 World Cup

We finished second in the World Cup this time—so close! Can’t complain, though; we survived two penalty shootouts before losing to Spain in the third. Jose also won the World Cup's Best Player award for the first time (the last winner was Kane).

After the world cup, Portugal climbed to the number 1 spot in national world rankings.

7-goal match (safe to say that the opposite team is DUMB😂)

We became league champions after 26 rounds, leading the second place by a significant margin.

The opponent in the UCL final is a bit surprising—it's Olympique Lyonnais. For some reason, they've been performing strongly this season. They even managed to beat us early on. Now it's time for revenge on the biggest stage.

And sure enough, we dominated the match and were crowned UCL champions once again. Tough luck, OL.

So, we encounter a bit of a problem...

I've noticed that the other teams in my domestic league are increasingly adopting defensive strategies. I'd say more than half the teams are using a three-at-the-back formation with a defensive mentality and some are even fielding two defensive midfielders. 7 defenders against us!

 

The bright side is that Jose is receiving even stronger support from his teammates.

We've added another "crossing maestro" - Casco (Messi regen) also maxed out the crossing attribute.

We also welcome our first "hexagon warrior" - Vranckx (Hazard regen). All attributes are green!

The start of the season has been a bit challenging. I experimented with different tactics for a few matches and ultimately decided to go back to "run at defense". I feel it works better against more defensive teams. When I think about it, it makes sense. With so many defenders on the opposing side, I guess there just isn't too much space to play through balls.

Then Jose got injured in the UCL match below. Fortunately, he’ll only be missing one match.

11-0 in a cup final...must be a rough day for opponent fans.

Man Utd is our UCL final opponent this time. Easily beating them 3-0.

We're still finding ways to counter more defensive teams in our league. Apparently the situation with more defensive domestic opponents is here to stay.

I've decided to implement a new strategy: using "run at defense" in all domestic matches and "through balls" in UCL matches. This aligns with my season 8 thoughts.

Let’s see how this new system works for us.

 

(A) Player Development

Jose even gained +1 dribbling on his 24th birthday... he’s literally the perfect CF with 20s in all key stats (except for 19 creativity). Lost of words.

I've also retrained him to play as LM this season (because why not). He gained +2 in crossing and +1 in passing because of that, though obviously it’s not too related to the CF attributes.

Leading Portugal to European glory at the start of season.

This is Jose's mid-season stat. Our new approach is working out really well.

We cruised past multiple European opponents in the second half of the season.

And also dominating Liverpool in the UCL final.

No change in tactics, but great to witness that our squad continue to improve..

Looking at the scouting agency, our players hold 9 out of the top 10 spots in the senior rankings. Hurray!

We also welcome our second hexagon warrior...it's the Pogba regen.

The big news this season? Jose just snagged the Best Player in Europe award for the first time!

Yep, you heard that right! Even after dominating the Ballon d'Or since Season 4, this is the first time Jose has taken home the Best Player in Europe title. The criteria for this award must be pretty weird.

 

Moving on to the scouting agency...we’ve achieved a clean sweep in the top 10. Our squad is stronger than ever.

I'm feeling pretty confident about the quality of our national team now, so I'm tempted to start playing the overloading mentality too. 

It’s a high-risk, high-reward move—especially since the World Cup is single elimination—but I decided to go for it.

And wow, the first match already proved it was a great call: Jose scored 7 goals in just the first 35 minutes.

We went on to win the World Cup for the second consecutive time, and we did it in style.

Thank you! We faced relatively easy opponents in this round of WC (Canada, Australia, Denmark, Cameron, Uruguay, Mexico, Belgium). I guess that made things easier.

I’d love to! But unfortunately this is on FMM23 so I can’t offer such a long contract.
So far there haven’t been any issues with contract extension tho - where else is better than this Celtic?🏆

It's been a pretty quiet season, so I just wanted to share a quick update.

There haven't been many high-scoring matches, but Jose has been consistently performing reasonably well.

That said, I've noticed that Jose's teammates are "stealing" a few too many goals from him, which I find a bit frustrating. This could be a potential area we need to address in the next season.

To begin with, we're 19/20 in the top spots of the scouting agency. It means BOTH my first team XI and second team XI are now on top of the world. 

The Tactical Change

As I mentioned, I’m planning to change tactics again this season. Jose's goal count has dropped for the fourth consecutive year, even as the team improves — definitely not ideal.

I've decided on the following new system:

First Half: Play with control mentality + through balls.

Second Half: Switch to overload mentality + run at defense + change the AM to an AP + change two wide CMs to B2Bs

I also start to take in-game team talks seriously and try to optimize them for better match performance.

This is my thinking behind:

First Half

1. My team is getting really strong. I think playing a bit more defensively with control mentality could help funnel more goals to Jose.

2. Under typical circumstances, I believe through balls are more effective than running at the defense, so I am happy to use that in the first half.

3. I’m not a fan of a balanced mentality or anything more defensive — it misses out on many attacking opportunities.

 

Second Half

4. I've noticed that opposing teams often switch to a contain mentality when they're trailing in the second half. To counter this, I need to be more aggressive and switch back to an overload mentality.

5. Run at defense should work slightly better against very defensive teams.

6. Adjusting player roles (AM to AP, wide CMs to B2Bs) also makes my team more attacking.

7. I also have this weird feeling—though it’s untested—that there’s a sort of “reward mechanism” in the game that allows for more goals when you switch to a more attacking mentality during the match. But again, that's just my feeling.

Another monstrous performance at the UCL semis...15-0 Porto on aggregate, Jose scoring 13(!) goals.

The goal-scoring streak finally came to an end at Aberdeen.

But this doesn't stop Jose from netting 2 hat-tricks at the domestic cup final and UCL final.

Not sure what Jose is smoking at the UCL this year...

In real life, Chelsea just clinched the title at the CWC today — proud Chelsea fan here! But in my game, thanks to my Celtic superteam, Chelsea is stuck in second place. Sorry, Blues!

And of course, Jose played a crucial role in this CWC journey.

Jose also netted 6 goals in the UEFA Super Cup. I’ve got a feeling this season is going to be a great one.

Crushing more European teams. I honestly feel like the UCL is a bit easier than domestic matches since the opponents tend to play less defensively.

A moment to record — Jose received the first red card of his career.

Any Spanish friends here? I came across this guy with the surname Portugal, but he’s Spanish..I know they’re neighbouring countries, but is that common? Just curious.

Jose picked up an injury toward the end of the season...

...and returned just in time for the UCL final. Although his condition isn’t the best since he just resumed full training, I still 'forced' him to play the entire match since it was the last of the season. Bro was exhausted, but hey, he never disappoints — still scoring a hat-trick!
