Tactics Tips for playing possession with 3 defenders

Hi all, 

i wanted to ask if anyone has had any success with playing a 3 back tactic and more importantly, one that can control the majority of possession in a game 

I've tried a few of the suggestions I’ve seen on here and discord, notably the Defensive mentality and Slow tempo but is there anything else I’m missing because I cannot find consistent results (I also notice playing this way also gives me manager awards such as bus driver which isn’t my ultimate intention)

I’ve attached the formation I intend to play with, I’m open to changing roles if need be but I want the formation to remain symmetrical
