When you write a new post - click on the ‘add files’ from ‘photo library’, then you can upload any screenshots you’ve taken.

Usually people share screenshots of your tactic, your results and sometimes your key players.

Palmeiras '96: Ataque do 100 Gols

in Football Manager 2024

The legendary Palmeiras side of 1996, famous for the “ataque dos 100 gols” (attack of 100 goals), embodied the essence of Brazilian football — free-flowing, expressive, and unpredictable. Their game was defined by fluid positioning, intricate passing combinations, clever one-twos, diagonal movements, and asymmetrical attacking patterns that reflected the beauty of futebol arte.

Fast forward to my FM Mobile save, where I attempted to bring that same spirit to life — this time using Inter Milan. The result? One of the most electrifying attacking trios in the game: Joaquín Correa, Lautaro Martínez, and Lionel Messi.

Tactical Shape: 4-2-2-2 / 4-3-1-2 (Box ↔ Diamond Midfield)

Just like Vanderlei Luxemburgo’s Palmeiras, who mastered the fluid 4-2-2-2 / 4-3-1-2 with a shapeshifting box or diamond midfield, I built my system around controlled creativity.

In the original, Galeano and Flávio Conceição anchored the midfield, while Rivaldo and Djalminha floated as dual number 10s. Müller operated just behind Luizão, forming a lethal forward pair.

In my FM adaptation:

Lautaro Martínez plays the role of a Complete Forward, combining pace, power, and finishing — very much in the mould of R9 Ronaldo.

Lionel Messi, the world’s ultimate creator, provides the genius spark and vision to unlock defences and feed Lautaro’s constant movement.

Joaquín Correa completes the trio — not as flashy as the other two, but a versatile, intelligent link between attack and midfield, capable of adapting to multiple advanced roles.

Correa acts as the connector between Lautaro, Messi, and the midfield quartet — the “fourth midfielder” in the diamond who occupies advanced spaces and stitches phases together.

The midfield shape fluidly shifts thanks to Barella, whose movement transforms the structure: he alternates between acting as a third midfielder (forming the diamond) and pushing higher as a second number 10 (forming the box).

Big Shout-out to Marcus Thuram tho, he was an ELITE Super-sub, as he always came through as a backup to Lautaro.

---

Team Instructions & Player Profiles

No tactical setup alone can replicate the Brazilian flair of the 1996 Palmeiras. The key lies in player selection — choosing profiles that complement one another, with flair, dribbling ability, technical quality, and intelligent off-ball movement.

My core team instructions remain simple and focused on expression:

Be More Expressive — maximize creative freedom.

Run at Defence — encourage dribbling and individual initiative.

Short GK Distribution — keep the build-up grounded and composed.

Other settings like passing style or tempo were left fluid, allowing the players’ natural instincts to shine.

---

Final Thoughts

This recreation was an experiment in blending tactical structure with Brazilian-style freedom. The result has been one of my most enjoyable saves — and I’ll be sharing my season’s results and highlights under this post.

We were a bit unlucky not to get to the ucl final, losing out to PSG on pens and I don't scumsave sadly.

Give it a try, tweak it to your squad, and let me know how it performs in your own save.

PS: January update was turned off, so I haven't tested it with it turned on, although I don't know if it might matter.

I have a newly created WhatsApp channel where I'd be discussing about my saves and bring save ideas: do well to check it out and hit a follow God bless:  https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbBizqi8PgsPHP7wVw2B

Looks great but have you tested on a lower level club to see if it is still effective?
