Has anyone ever had real success using inverted wingers? ... tbh I dont really see why you'd use inverted over IF and that's what bugs me plus i dont really know difference between them anyway ... ideally I wanted to build a formation where their the main guys but very little out there on the forums regarding them!!

It’s been a while since I used IWs, but:

  • In the MR/L positions - IWs move diagonally inside + forward into the AMRC / AMLC positions.
  • That means IWs are very suitable with playmaking central midfielders which move into the central AMC position - like RPs + APs
  • It also means IWs are very suitable with WBs - as the IW moves inside for the WB to overlap
  • That means in-possession B2Bs and IWs try to take roughly the same space  so they either alternate, or stand on each other.
  • As a comparison - Wingers (on narrow team width) move similarly, but into the STRC / STLC positions.
  • As a comparison - IFs stay wider while waiting for the ball, then try to cut / move inside when they receive the ball (or when there is space to run inside), into the STL/LC and STR/RC positions

In FMM22 and before - IWs used to stay reasonably wide …

… but from FMM23 / 24, IWs seem to move forward + diagonally, particularly on more attacking mentalities - for example from the ML position to the AMLC position.

Hope that helps 🙂
