What is the difference between committed and normal tackling? Like does tweaking any of these help in chance creation or getting exposed to counters? Which should be the tackling in a attacking or overload tactic?

Normal tackling :
In a defensive context, you apply controlled pressure on the opponent by attempting to block their passing and shooting lanes. Rather than "diving in" for the ball, you force the attacker to either pass backward or take a risky move that could trigger a counter-attack for your team.
Your squad remains compact during the defensive phase, which is particularly effective against fast players, because your defenders don't abandon their positions, they can effectively close down any potential through-ball channels or running lanes. Furthermore, your players won't foul as often, significantly reducing the number of yellow cards they receive.
Committed tackling :
  • Effective against slow teams: aggressive tackling + slow opponent = more ball recoveries, low risk of counter-attacks, and constant pressure.
  • High risk of yellow and red cards.
  • Effective in rainy weather (I think the reason is pretty self-explanatory).
  • Very aggressive on the ball (players often step out of position). However, if the tackle is missed, you leave massive gaps behind and you're pretty much RIP on the counter.
  • Effective late in the game (after the 70th minute). If you desperately need an equalizer, you switch to aggressive.
  • Effective against smaller/inferior teams, you put constant pressure on those scrubs (for example, in early cup ties).

With aggressive tackling, players go for sliding tackles much more often rather than standing tackles like in the normal setting. See, I ended up giving you a reason why it's so effective in the rain after all!

My recommendation is to stick with normal tackling when playing with an attacking or overload mentality.

Vă rog, are cineva idee când apare actualizarea de iarnă?? 😭

N-am mai jucat FMM26 din ianuarie pentru că aștept această actualizare. Ca să nu mai trebuiască să încep din nou. Acum e martie și mor de foame.

Soon (most likely sometime next week)

I'm coming to the end of my 6th season managing Everton Women's team and in the past 2 seasons have had an issue when promoting youth team players where the potential of the players is often 2 stars less after promoting to the reserves.

This season I even changed my assistant to be a youth coach as I thought that they would be able to better assess potential and there would be less difference in ratings after the players are promoted. From 3, 3.5 and one 4 star potential youth players I ended up with 1, 1.5 and one 2 star players promoted to reserves. Board approval for transfers has dropped due to this. My previous assistant and my current assistant both have gold badges and have 4.5 star reputations.

I thought that the star rating is relevant to your squad.

For example a prospect in the youth team at 4 stars isn't the same as a current squad player at 4 star rating.

I understood the stars for the youth development as a rating of their potential. It is however more likely to be inaccurate when the new seasons youth team comes in as the coaches knowledge on the players is still F. I have waited 'til April when my assistant has finished their assessment of all the players and their knowledge on each player is an A.

I understand the player not reaching their potential later on but this is my assistant giving their assessment of the potential as 4 stars, I promote the player and straight away when I go to the coach report from my assistant on that player they rating them as 2 star potential.

Got that name-call bug again.  "Dennis Cirkin and person#2 have been selected in the Ireland and Spain squads....."

Fuuny, the tag for Mayenda is there underneath.

Oh yeah that happened to me as well. 3 players with 3½+ ☆, and couple of 2½+ ☆ in academy, only to become 1½ or 2 ☆ once I let them in. 🥱

Sometimes it's reverse. I get players with 1 star, promote them and their stars are higher. But honestly, I don't pay much attention to the stars. I promote every academy product and unless one is really bad or has a terrible mix of personalities, I'll give them a contract and see how they look from year to year. Granted, some of the 5 star ones do tend to be as good as predicted but not always. I've had a lot of good surprises.

Yeah I've had that problem since the release of 26, I've grown used to it now 😆

Star ratings are purely estimative, not a deciding factor. If you have a striker whose stars have dropped but he’s still performing, keep him in the squad, don't try to offload him. There is no point turning your attention to a 5-star player if they have a negative personality, bad traits, are injury-prone, adapt slowly (low match ratings), and so on.

Star ratings in the game (either the Academy or your squad) are very inconsistent. It's just your staff's opinion and is often very different from the player's 0-200 PA rating. And they change over time too, based on things like form etc. Use them as a vague guide but remember they might not be correct - just like in real life, you can't always tell a player's potential.

You can see their actual CA/PA star ratings in the editor (once they are promoted), and at the risk of breaking self promotion rules, in AM26 (Android only, not free) you can see the actual 0-200 values. But if you want to play realistically, you should just accept that you can't always tell a player's potential until years later.

Thanks for the explanation from you and others, that makes perfect sense. I was more concerned with the quickness of the change in my coaches opinion of the players potential and how this had knocked the board confidence in me on transfers.

It was at the same time as the board thought I was under achieving in the league because the expectation was win the league and I was only second. The expectation was win the league because there does not seems to be an expectation leave between "mid table" and "title winners" for WSL. I'm planning to put a post with some observations after a longer save in the women's game and I will mention the limited range of season expectations more in there.

My opponent scored 5 goals but lost 5-2.Screenshot_2026-03-03-20-43-01-304_com.netflix_NGP.FootballManagerMobile.thumb.jpg.2ff419d5442a08c02eca72175951cb76.jpg

Also, first time I have ever noticed a goalkeeper own goal in FMM26.

If the match was played in the rain and your team relied on long-range shots, the goalkeeper's own goal is practically understandable.

The following information was released today. I think we’re going to have to wait a little longer for the update.

'The next game update (26.2) is scheduled for Monday 9th March on FM26, FM26 Console and FM26 Touch (Apple Arcade). The timing is subject to change, pending QA checks'.

'Following release on these platforms, we’ll share information on the plans for FM26 Mobile and FM26 Touch (Nintendo Switch).'

My physio removed a player from training today to prevent further injury.

All fine, except the player is 800miles away on loan !

Don't you like it when you are about to play a game and you don't have players available but the loan window is still active, so you just recall one your players that's on loan and they teleport immediately to your line up.

Thank you for the information!  March 9th is a special one for me 😁, it's my 38th birthday!
