Tactics 5-2-1-2 Villa

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

Here is a 5-2-1-2 tactic I am currently using with some success in a Villa save. No transfers made.

Special mention to the Libero role in this year’s game — the shackles are well and truly off. Centre - backs sprinting onto through balls. I have recently started a Palace save and Lacroix has 7 goals in 12 from OPEN play playing as Libero.

You won the premier league, 93 points, 14 goals conceded only!! No big transfer!! and you say 'some success'?? Amazing results bro. I will definitely try it.  Thanks.

Hello, @Hazza8

Your tactic looks interesting, and more importantly - it looks like it works with great success!

Could you share the player stats? Im interested to see where the goals and assists are coming from.

Also, why wingbacks? Playing without a traditional striker usually means that none of your forward players have high aerial stat, so i imagine that almost all of the crosses from the wingbacks are useless. Have you tried inverting them or playing them as fullbacks?

@ekoak Thank you for giving it a go  - amazing results.

@rabi3 Thanks man!

@rseven I've had been playing around with this tactic, and initially, the advanced Libero was a major vulnerability, leaving us exposed to swift counter-attacks every time they pushed forward. Having two Sweepers, made the defence significantly more solid. While I haven't went in depth to check if the line did drop (I was just happy to stop conceding!), I strongly suspect that having the Sweepers has achieved two things: lowered the overall defensive line and provided two permanent safety nets, effectively neutralising the danger posed when the Libero decides to roam.

A small caveat to this defensive improvement is that I also changed the attacking role from a Pressing Forward to a Shadow Striker at the same time. While the primary solidity may of came from the backline adjustment, I have no doubt that the press at the top end improved due to the Shadow Striker's movement, which certainly contributed positively to the overall defensive numbers.

@SOLOTÜRK I do use match preparation as I strongly believe that morale is major factor in results. 90% of the time I rely on a straightforward Balanced team talk. The only frequent deviation is when facing a much stronger opponent, where I may switch to a Relaxed,—specifically when I notice several players are anxious or worried about the fixture. I rarely, if ever, resort to a Demanding team talk.

@BarnDoor I have checked my stats from last season:

Ian Maatsen P39 G0 A4

Matty Cash P40 G1 A4

Despite the low attacking output on paper, the full-backs were tactically crucial; watching the highlights confirmed they were pushed high up the pitch, often becoming key components in the high press by winning the ball back and serving as the vital "pass-before-the-assist" in transition. This aggressive structure meant opponents found it extremely difficult to play through us, leading to a strange trend where direct, front-to-back teams (like Brentford, who took more league points from us than City, Arsenal, and Liverpool combined) caused more issues than ball-playing sides. Finally, I believe the overall attacking effectiveness of this system is constrained by personnel, as a more creative full-back—ideally one with better attributes than Matty Cash with 10 Creativity and 12 for passing may have more joy in the final third.

I havent tried inverting wing backs as of yet  :)

Morgan Rogers G36 G17 A11 Shadow Striker

Ollie Watkins G40 G9 A11 Inside Forward

Harvey Elliot G 38 G11 A 10 Inside forward

A fair critique of the tactic's attacking performance is that none of the front three were played in their optimal positions; specifically, utilising Harvey Elliott (whose Shooting attribute is only 9) as an inside forward . I suspect that players who are proper Inside Forwards with better attributes would unlock significantly more attacking impact within this system, I deliberately chose not to make new signings during the testing phase.

“I used offensive playmaker-type players as shadow strikers, like Gazi, Pedri or Fermin. Or would strikers like Morgan Rogers have been a better choice?”

This has to be by far the most consistent tactic in FMM26. Thanks a lot for sharing and i dont really think there´s anyway to make it better as its already too good.

I dont think you need to change anything with those results :)

Those numbers are ok, but not impressive. However, as you said, maybe those players arent best suited for the role. It is hard to find a team with suitable players without new signings. If they had better crossing or creativity...

I might try it out and experiment. I started to hate wingbacks because in fmm24 they would mostly just dribble to the corner flag and lose the ball 😒

And i also dont like tacitcs that focus on crossing + aerial, which usually involves wingbacks...

But this tactic seems to work even with forwards that have low aerial, so i assume theres more to it than just crossing 😅

I think a perfect tactic came, it is very successful, it gives good results in all the teams I have tried, we concede very few goals

Mükemmel bir taktik olduğunu düşünüyorum, çok başarılı, denediğim tüm takımlarda iyi sonuçlar veriyor, çok az gol yiyoruz

Brother, did you use your match preparation? Did you hand it over to your assistant?

Hey, it seems there are almost no world class liberos and sweepers in the game, what roles would you recommend to replace them with?

"do you use match preparation?" is this year's version of "what tactical style?" 🤣

At least this one boost your stats for one match, but it's definitely flooding all of the tactics threads 🤦‍♂️

"Maç hazırlığı yapabiliyor musun?" olayların bu yılki versiyonu "hangi taktik tarzı?"🤣

En azından bir maç istatistiklerinizi artırıyor, ancak kesinlikle tüm taktik konularını dolduruyor🤦‍♂️

Haklısın dostum, sorun bende mi anlamadım, üst düzey bir takımda taktik deniyorum, işe yaramıyor, insanlar muhtemelen kaydedip yüklüyorlar. 😁

Hey @Hazza8 - great work here mate.

Do you do anything specific for set peices?

Hey mate,

No I never involve set peices as part of the tactic during testing. Not something I’ve looked at in this years release.

@Hazza8good job .

the tactics works well.

in your opinion switch The sweeper in non centre back could be most effective on The tactic?

To be honest, I’m not completely sure. As I mentioned above, I switched the pressing forward to a shadow striker at the same time I changed the centre-backs to sweepers. I need to go back and try sweepers with a pressing forward to see which change actually made the biggest defensive difference.

This style is better for me ,so not sweeper  ,2 centre back and pressing forward
