Help What effect does captaincy and leadership have on the game?

What does captaincy and leadership really do and effect in the game?

For example I have a situation where I have brought in a lot of new players, one who has replaced my old captain.

I have 2 players that have been in the first team since the start of my career, but they're young and have poor leadership attribute, around 7 to 8.

If I give them captaincy will it affect the game negatively or should I be alright?
