Tactics 4-2-3-1 Klopp Dortmund Gegenpress

Long term follower/fan, first time contributor.

After a couple of seasons doing my Schalke rebuild using 3-1-4-2 attacking Newcastle tactic, I decided to try something different and build my own tactic.

The tactic is loosely based on Klopp’s time at Dortmund.

After an initially slow start, the tactic came into its own. Winning me the treble including;

4-0 at home v Bayern

3-0 at home v PSG

4-1 away v Barcelona

2-1 away v Bayern

1-0 away v Dortmund

2-0 v Real Madrid in Champions League final

Goals scored by the three forwards and my CB whom I’ve set to mark keeper on corners.

Assists from my wingbacks and IF’s.

How did it go? I'm finding 4-2-3-1 setups quite tough to get consistency from this year.

Agree. My 4231's seem to do great against an opposition back 4, but as soon as I play a opposition back 3 (e.g. 5122 / 5221 / 5212), then suddenly my chances dry up + they are dominating me down the middle, creating loads of chances. Have to keep switching from my 4231 to a 3142 / 3412 to compensate, which is annoying.

Am not sure if anyone else has this problem - or is this 4231 tactic has 'solved' / doesnt face that problem 🙂

had to switch to 2-3-2-1-2 😂, results weren't quite well
