Season Nine: Stage Four

After the disaster that was season eight, could the record be broken this time around?

I was determined to right the wrongs of last season, so set about changing the squad, upping the harmony, fiddling with my tactics... and changing my main man. Goodbye Mr Breel Embolo, hello Mr...

I'm a United fan, so it would be sweet to complete this challenge with Marcus Rashford. I have high hopes for the lad!

Like I said, it was a busy one! With all that done, the Squad Harmony as a consequence was much better:

Although a strange thing happened a week or so before:

Anyway, after (quite) a few games trying out several new tactics/formations (a weird 3-1-5-1 worked for a while), I actually ended up going back to the set up which did so well previously (at Monaco and Sporting). Had I tricked the game into forgetting about how I used to set up and thus forget how to counteract it? Is that even a thing? No idea, but my main striker performed much better this season. Come December, the annual World Player of the Year for my Player Award was announced:

 

So, come the end of the season, did Marcus Rashford beat the goal scoring record?

Well.... no.

But he did very well!

A decent return and I could have definitely hit 70 if not for all the messing around earlier on in the season and if any striker of mine could score a penalty. (Only 5 missed this season though.)

The season as a whole was another successful one, although I again failed to crack Europe. That's becoming a little annoying to be honest.

This was a much better season and I again feel like this challenge can be done. We potentially could have played another three games in the ECL, and in a season after winning it we could have more again in the WCC. If I can keep Rashford fit and playing he could potentially play 60-65 games, and with his current goals-per-game ratio he could go oh so close.

Finally, remember that young player from AS Monaco I said I'd keep an eye out for? Well we just picked him up on a free. I;m already picturing him setting up Rashford for goal 79...

I changed to a 4411 and Depay has exploded all of a sudden, I don't think it's going to be anywhere near enough, I mean if the FMM gods like @BatiGoal haven't achieved it not sure what us mortals can do, but like you said "Never give up, Never surrender"

I tried out a 4-4-1-1 for a bit, but couldn't quite get it working. Glad it's working for you! Mind you, I've heard there's a tactic around where your strikers score 150+ goals...

yeah not sure what to make of that one, but there was someone else recently who got their striker to score a stupid amount of goals in the Vanarama conference so maybe it did happen

I managed 80+ with Charlie sheringham in vanarama south, 200+ goals altogether that year haha

That's it it was @Brenty92 who got the insane amount of goals but they were spread evenly about, but 150+ with one 35 year old striker in the Spanish league not sure

anyway enough of that, keep cracking at this dude, I'm sure you'll get there 

my 4411 seems to have dried up (the teams doing well but depay had a slow NOV/DEC) but this always seems to happen to me

Season Ten: Stage Four

If you've read the spoilers above you know what happens, so let's get the usual stuff out of the way first. A few IN and OUTS this year, but nothing major. We actually made a small profit in the transfer market!

(Yes, I let Jasper Cillessen leave on a free - he wouldn't sign a new contract anyway - but then re-signed him as back up. )

The season as a whole was an incredible one - both for Marcus Rashford and for the club (and me!). Again, if you've been reading the story so far, you know how he got on, but here's the final screenshot of Rashford's season...

HE'S ONLY GONE AND DONE IT.

Stage Four complete!

58 games, 84 goals.

And I'm pretty sure he took his foot off the gas once he hit 81. This, by the way, is the most goals I've ever scored with a single player in a season. Over the moon to have done it!
