Parking The Bus

After I finished my Fabled Number 10 challenge I was looking for another quick challenge to get my teeth into.

I knew that the tactic I used for the number 10 challenge was pretty good defensively so I thought I’d have a go at the parking the bus challenge below.

 

Will update my progress in a bit.

Competitions

I won the league by 3 points but it was pretty comfortable really apart from a slip up near the end away to Rio Ave when I had a few injuries. I held on though.

We beat Aves in the Supertaça and it whilst I’d have liked a few more goals I’m happy with the clean sheet. Hopefully it’s a sign of things to come!

We go out of league cup as we just couldn’t seem to perform in the competition strangely.

We played Sporting in the Taça de Portugal Final and it was a rather comfortable final in truth as we ran out 3-0 winners. I didn’t expect a clean sheet in this one so it was a great way to finish the season.

We lost against Man Utd in champions league with a cruel last minute goal after it looked like it was going to extra time. We gave a good account of ourselves and going out was probably a blessing as I don’t think we’d have kept many clean sheets in the later rounds.

We struggled a bit towards the end as we got a few injuries but we managed to get the first team back for the last game of the season and the cup final.

Clean Sheets: 31 x 3 = 93 -

Goals Conceded: 30 = 63 +

Chelsea

Competitions

We won the league without losing a game but drawing a good few. I found that with Chelsea I had a good first team but as soon as I got a few injuries my ability to keep clean sheets deminished. 

This was the last game of the season against second placed Liverpool. I already had the league wrapped up but wanted to remain unbeaten. I knew the game was going to be hard because we had a fixture pile up with still being in the Europa League so a few of my players had low conditioning. We went behind early and I thought that was it but then Moses saved the day late on to bring to end a fantastic league campaign.

A nice way to begin our season with a 3-0 win over Manchester City in the Community Shield. The game was close and looking at the stars you’d think I got lucky but a lot of their shots were late on when they finally decided to have a go towards the end.

We had a few injuries going into this League Cup tie and we performed badly to say the least and exited the competition in the third round after suffering defeat to Brighton.

We played poorly in the FA Cup Final but managed to score a late goal in extra time to take the game to penalties. We scored all our goals in the shoot out to win but I felt we were lucky as although the match stats were pretty even I felt they deserved it really as most of our shots were when we went for it near the end.

A fairly one sided final against Sevilla but it took extra time for us to win it and we couldn’t keep a clean sheet but it’s a nice way to end the season with another trophy.

We just had the 2 loans out and none in as per rules of challenge.

Fixtures

Good run of 12 clean sheets in a row towards the end of the campaign after we’d struggled in the middle part of the season mainly due to a lot of injuries.

Clean Sheets: 34 x 3 = 102 -

Goals Conceded: 34 = 68 +

Cup Win: 5 = 73 +

League Win: 10 = 83

Thanks! I’m happy in the end. When I could field my first choice team I usually got the clean sheet but had injuries in the middle of the season.

Inter

Competitions

We won the league only conceding 12 goals during the season. We lost to Juventus and Napoli back to back early in the campaign and then went unbeaten in the league for the rest of season.

We won the Italian Cup Final but suffered an injury to our centre back Stefan de Vrij which would keep him out for the last five matches of the season.

We lost by the odd goal against City in the Champions League. In the first leg we went for it in the last ten minutes but they scored on the counter. We did manage an equaliser but in hindsight maybe we’d have been better just keeping it tight for another clean sheet. We were a bit unlucky in the second leg but we didn’t really want to concede 3 goals and going out was probably a blessing as clean sheets would’ve been difficult in the later stages I would say.

Only a few loans out and no transfers in.

Fixtures

Lost Stefan de Vrij to injury in the Italian Cup Final which would keep him out for the rest of season. We struggled to keep clean sheets without him but I suppose he could have been injured for more than that during the season so we can’t complain too much.

Clean Sheets: 36 x 3 = 108 -

Goals Conceded: 22 = 86 +

Cup Win: 5 = 91 +

League Win: 10 = 101

Total: 101

Tbh I haven’t got the Chelsea save anymore but I think I can remember the tactic. I have the Inter one though and I may put something on the tactics section at a later date but it won’t be until I’m finished with my 1k attempt. 

These weren’t game breaking tactics anyway. You want to head over to the tactics section though as there are loads of good tactics you could use especially if you are planning on managing Chelsea.

Real Madrid

Here I am, back to park the bus and this time I’ll be using Real Madrid. I’ve just realised that when I started this I never gave any credit to Foxy who created this challenge so thank you @Foxy, it’s a fantastic challenge this! 😉

I’m a rather average FMM manager but I’m at the stage now where just playing the game normally with a decent team is quite easy. This challenge is perfect for me as the teams are all top teams so it’s not really hard to get good results but you can’t use transfers and keeping clean sheets is never that easy on this game.

Anyway I better make a start on the challenge. I’ll be using a nice strikerless system here with Bale at SS who I’m hoping will do the business if I can keep him fit for the majority of the season. We’ve got a nice creative midfield with Kroos and Modric but they aren’t the most destructive so I’m hoping going strikerless will help us when it comes to winning the midfield battle.

First Half of Season

Lets see how we got on during the first half of the season.

Competitions

Super Cup

We kicked off the season with the European Super Cup where we played our local rivals Atletico Madrid which would turn into a tasty encounter. We won the game 5-3 after extra time which is not a great start but we did have a couple of injuries so I wasn’t losing hope at this stage.

Champions League

The Chanpions League is going ok as we topped our group and only conceded 3 goals which I’m happy with. We lost the last game against Liverpool 1-0 at home but I wasn’t too disheartened as we were without the injured Varane and Kroos had been injured and this was his first game back having came on as a second half sub.

Club World Championship

We won the Club World Championship winning the final 3-0 against Chivas. I’m happy that we kept a clean sheet in both the semi and final as even though the opposition were poor you can never bank on clean sheets in these sort of games.

Spanish Cup

The Spanish Cup couldn’t have gone any better so far as we’re into the Semi Final and we haven’t conceded a goal yet. We play Barcelona in the Semi which should prove to be a great couple of games.

League

We are doing great in the league having only conceded 4 goals so far. It looks as if it’s going to be a great battle between Barcelona and ourselves for the title. We have had a good few injuries but luckily it’s usually been just one key player injured at a time so that hasn’t derailed us yet. A couple of injuries to our centre backs and we could be in trouble though so I’m not counting my chickens yet.

Fixtures

A fantastic first half of the season I think with lots of clean sheets. We had a poor spell in early December when we had Kroos and Varane out injured but we weathered it and soon got back to our dominant ways again.

Bale is the man at SS and we just need to keep him fit for as much of the season as possible.

Conclusion

Great first half of the season here. I think we’ve had 27 clean sheets so far which is far beyond what I was expecting. We kick off the second half of the season with three games against Barcelona which will probably decide our season and we’ll be hoping to win whilst also keeping the scores down.

Real Madrid

Second Half of Season

We started the second half of the season with three games in a week all against Barcalona. 

The first game was the Spanish Cup Semi Final First Leg and we ran out 3-1 winners at the Bernabeu. Ok so no clean sheet but I’m not too worried about that against the big boys so long as I keep the goals against low.

The next game in the trilogy was another game at the Bernabeu but this time it was first against second in the league and a win would give us a great chance to go on and win the league. Win we did in a one sided affair, we were 2-0 up going into injury time and then Suarez scored to spoil our clean sheet but a great win non the less.

The Spanish Cup Second Leg was next and we won in style away at the Camp Nou with a clean sheet to boot. 

Great start to the second half of the season and a massive chance to win both the cup and league to get those important bonus points for the challenge.

Competitions

League

We went on and won the league in style with only 10 goals conceded and no defeats. After we beat Barcalona we were in such a great position and it never looked like we were going to slip up.

Spanish Cup

We played Athletic Club Bilbao in the Final and we always looked comfortable and ran out 2-1 winners. Shame we couldn’t keep a clean sheet but winning the Cup means a nice extra 5 points for the challenge which more than makes up for it.

Chanpions League

First Knockout Round

We player Dortmund and drew 2-2 away and 0-0 at home to win the tie on away goals. Not great to concede 2 goals in the first leg but the home clean sheet makes up for it.

Quarter Final

We were up against our neighbours Atletico Madrid in the Quarter Final and we won 1-0 away and 1-1 at home to win the tie 2-1 on aggregate. Really happy with the clean sheet but was hoping for a better result in the home game but a win is a win and one clean sheet over the two games will do me.

Semi Final

We played our big rivals Barcalona in the Semi and they’d be really hoping to get one over us after our previous encounters this season. They couldn’t as we drew 2-2 away and won the home game 2-0 to march on to the final against Manchester City. Again can’t complain at only conceding 2 goals over the tie against such a great attacking team.

Final

Manchester City were the team we’d play in the final and we were the better team and ran out 3-1 winners with Bale getting himself a brace.

We didn’t perform quite so good in the second half of the season in terms of clean sheets but I am more than happy as we had some big games in the Champions League and Spanish Cup where clean sheets proved difficult to gain. We had a good few injuries throughout but losing Ramos for most of April seemed to be the only one to hinder us defensively but I can’t complain.

No transfers apart from a pending transfer which is a prearranged one. I have gained a bronze coaching badge during the season.

Bale is the main man here at SS position. He had injuries as expected but I’m happy with the amount games we could get out of him.

Tactic

Here is my set up. As you can see it’s a nice strikerless system. Modric started the season in the AP position but after he got injured Ceballos came in and made the position his own.

Challenge Result

Clean Sheets: 44 x 3 = 132

Goals Conceded: -24

League and Cup: +15

Total: 123

Final Thoughts

I’m really happy with the season and the way the boys played. This is by far the best total I’ve had with any of the teams so far which shows that I’ve improved slightly over the last month or so.

Now I only have Manchester United to do in the series and I do plan on doing them at some point so look out for the update.
