Tactics Strikerless 4132

Howdy

I played a quick season with the hammers to give this a proper test for anyone interested, or struggling to find something that works. I used an A team and a B team. The A team played the majority of league games. The B team played the rest and cup games. For the A team 9 of my starting 11 were already at the club. I bought a rb as there was only 1 in the first team squad and a defender. For the B team I bought 3 central midfielders.

I did retrain some of the players to play in different positions, but other than that their training stayed on whatever default it starts with.
I didn't bring in or change any staff.
No special corner tactic was used. All set pieces were whatever the default is.

Got to the quarters of both domestic cups.
Won the Micky Mouse Euro Cup.
Finished 2nd in the league.

My advice if anyone wants to try this - buy the absolute best players you can afford for the 2 SS positions - which I didn't do as you can see below.

If I wasn't creating much or chasing a game, I would switch to attacking mentality, balanced width and mixed passing.

Very interesting! I have a same shape tactic. 4-1-3-0-2, I used two AF instead of your two SS.

And very similar rotation strategy - A team for league match B team for cup.

I'm guessing your version scores more goals with the 2 AF's. What's the defence like?

I sold Madison & Tillemans at winter transfer window and call back Dewsbury-Hall & Choudhury. 

We got same points 80 in league with same 23-11-4, haha

I also tried one match to put 3 MC at AMC position (AM + AP + AM). This still worked well. not only attacking but also defense.

Haven't been able to really get it going with Leeds. Some of that is likely down to squad quality though and that I'm using quite a few young players too.

I'll persevere with it though and see if it picks up because I love the setup.

It was definitely fairly easy with West Ham as they already start with the majority of players who can play in the roles required. I brought in 5 players for my 21 player squad, and only 1 player in that squad was under 22 years old. Bowen was top goal scorer for my A team and Benrahma was top scorer for my B team. Overall he scored the most by a mile. Home games you may need to go with the attacking variant I mentioned above. Away games always seemed difficult though if I'm honest. It would have been interesting if I continued for another season and tried to improve the squad, but I've moved on to moneybags Newcastle now 😁

Please let me know if you manage to improve the tactic though.

I've been playing with this shape this year as well. Only a three game sample so far, but this has been much better for me.

I'm playing lower leagues so I'm accounting for worse players, but playing against equal or better squads the past three matches, this has taken me to 3 successive 2-0 victories, outshooting my opponents 42-7.

 

DFBs have been incredible, by far the best defensive tool this year. Early crosses can keep them engaged in the play, and they'll have time to pick a ball without any pressure. 

Still experimenting with the forward roles and passing instructions, but the midfield and defense has been awesome.

I use 3 BBM, as same as you, and DLP for DMC position, 2 WBs. 

You pick attacking mentality + defensive role for FBs, my choice is control mentality [ defensive than you] + attacking role. 

I will try your idea to reduce the crossing.

@DutchTony@hhooo The issue of this shape formation for me is that opposite FBs will be free to delivery crossing to box. The side middle field players will close down, but he could not stop the crossing. Any tips?

So, I decided to start a new game to build around this formation. First season was a breeze but I had a lot of draws. Now I'm promoted, youth players have mentoring/re-training completed.

Oh wow. I haven't really looked at Leeds pro this year so I have no idea how suitable/good their players are.

They're hard work whatever you do with them. Brought players in both times too but clearly more was needed 🤣

4 years in now. My win % took a beating last season, but it'll be back to 70%+ this year, hopefully!

I'm working on a new variation of my strikerless tactic from last year's version. Trying to solve the IF issue. I have a few ideas but still working out the kinks.

I've noticed that if one of the SS is changed to an AP and both APs are on the wings, I have better possession. Maybe because of the pressure this puts on the opposition fullbacks. The issue with doing that is finding a way to ensure that they're involved and contributing to the attack.

Hiya mate, i kinda used this as a backup tactic just in case my striker is injured or too tired. Its actually one of the clutch tactics ive ever used, ive scored many equalizers and comebacks with it. I'll just show you the achievements ive got with it
