2014 Peely's Player Role Rater Version 2.0

This spreadsheet is designed to help people to determine how suited a player is to a given role. The ratings are based on Dec's "Key attributes for each player role" article and follows in the footsteps of Dec's own player role rater.

The Player Role Rater can be downloaded from here.

There are three sections to the spreadsheet:

Player Rater

This allows you to input the attributes for a player and see how their stats stack up for each of the roles in the game:

In addition to providing a score out of 50 for each role, the tool also gives an "Assist Rating". This is based on Ashez's Stats For The Perfect Creator article and should give you some idea of how good the player will be at setting up goals for his team-mates.

Use the FMH style representation of a football pitch to input the ability of the player in each playing position (Natural = Light Green, Accomplished = Dark Green etc.) and the Player Rater will adjust their score to reflect their ability in the relevant position.

Please note that most roles can be selected for a number of positions. For example a box to box midfielder can be in the AMC, MC or DMC positions. The Player Rater will show the rating for the player's best position relevant to that role. In the example above, Merino is accomplished in the AMC position, so the box to box midfielder rating would assume that he was playing in this position.

Comparison

This tab allows you to compare two players head-to-head:

The Comparison sheet allows you to input the playing positions for both players and adjusts their ratings accordingly.

As you are comparing two players, head to head, the role for the second player is determined by the role chosen for the first player. It is not possible to select different roles for each, as this would make the comparison pointless.

Team Sheet

This tab can be used to record the attributes of your entire squad and see how they stack up against each other:

I hope you'll find this tool of some use. Please feel free to leave feedback and suggestions.

It appears that I forgot to unlock the cells that you need to access to use the Comparison Sheet. I've uploaded a fixed version.

Thanks to PainfulBiscuits for bringing it to my attention :)

The sheet is protected to avoid accidental deletion of important formulae, but the cells you need to access are unlocked. The player name, role and attribute fields can all be edited.

No i cant

When i wanna modify that, it keep shows that message

I've just double checked the version that is uploaded and the necessary cells are definitely unlocked and can be typed in. Can you confirm that you have the latest version?

I had a play around with this yesterday and it's great, the assist stuff seems fairly accurate as well as every player I tested with could assists had 43+ while all my average players (assist wise) were in the 30s.

I look forward to using/testing this to find my next assist machine :)

Great work Peely

Thanks Ash. It's based on your article on creative players, as mentioned in the OP, but I split the attributes into primary and secondary, in a similar way to Dec's post on key attributes, and gave the primary ones a little more weight.

The key ones were passing, creativity, crossing and decisions, with technique and movement as secondary attributes. Given the rather conflicting evidence for teamwork being useful I left it out. Interestingly, the old CM 01/02 manual only says that teamwork is an important stat for defensive players.

Sorry but I don't really understand how in the first spreadsheet this part works (Use the FMH style representation of a football pitch to input the ability of the player in each playing position (Natural = Light Green, Accomplished = Dark Green etc.) and the Player Rater will adjust their score to reflect their ability in the relevant position.)

If you click on each of the little squares on the pitch to the right, a drop down list will appear. Select the player's level of ability in that area and it will change the square to light green, dark green, yellow etc.
