MLS 2015 10 to Look Out For in Week 1

With no Thierry Henry, Tim Cahill, Landon Donovan or Jermain Defoe the American signature division has seemingly lost some appeal early on. With Week 1 starting on the 06/03/2015 local time despite Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard agreeing future deals. However Kaka, Sebastian Giovinco and Jozy Altidore all coming in the league still has quality players. I will be running through the top 10 to watch out for in Week 1 of the MLS Season.

10. Raul Rodriguez - Houston Dynamo
New addition Raul Rodriguez swapped Espanyol for Houston and the solid defender looks pretty impressive. With 16 in tackling he is a good defender for many mid-table Premier League sides yet he has been recruited by Dynamo to try and better their Eastern Conference Final performance from 2014.

9. Clint Dempsey - Seattle Sounders

Veteran Clint Dempsey has been one of the best players for the US Mens National Team for a while and with a well rounded set of attributes thanks to his 15 goals for the Sounders last year. Despite not being on his peak at the moment he could certainly still do a job for Championship sides and potentially Premier League teams.

8. Robbie Keane - Los Angeles Galaxy
19 goals and 13 assists helped his LA Galaxy side win the Playoffs in 2015. Yet with no Landon Donovan to back him up the Irishman may find the goals a bit harder to come by. Yet with a respectable 14 shooting he is still a decent striker and one that has the movement to make a good poacher when in need of a vital goal. His experience will surely help with this too.

7. Bradley Wright-Phillips - New York Red Bulls
With a massive 27 goals last season Bradley Wright-Phillips led the MLS for goals. Looking at his current attributes he wouldn't seem it but 16 in shooting is impressive for a player whom has never really hit the back of the net in the top European leagues. He would be a very good acquisition for a fair few teams and his form in America certainly proves this too.

6. Jozy Altidore - Toronto FC
A swap deal with Jermain Defoe saw Altidore returning to his first league to try and rekindle his form that wasn't brilliant at Sunderland. Yet his attribute set is still pretty good given he didn't do a job in England. He should find his feet in the MLS though and be up the top of the scoring charts in which would be exciting in Toronto.

5. Kaka - Orlando City SC
The first player from one of the two new teams for the 2015 MLS season. Orlando's flagship player of Kaka is very creative and certain to make some chances for the ambitious team. Yet in his twilight years of his career he isn't what he was when he was at AC Milan or Real Madrid but for the MLS he seems a winner and one that can add some sparkle to the league.

4. Shaun Maloney - Chicago Fire
Former Celtic and Wigan Athletic Winger Shaun Maloney hasn't enjoyed a top career but it hasn't been bad by any strech of the imagination. Yet his attributes in FMH2015 may be on the generous side. The Fire though will be hoping they can qualify for the play offs with Maloney's help though and his versatility in both positions and attributes should help them in bigger games to give an attacking threat.

3. Obafemi Martins - Seattle Sounders
17 goals and 13 assists was very good for the Nigerian striker. His goalscoring instinct is apparent in his attributes and that is something that can cause trouble for most defences. A good player for Newcastle but a great one for Seattle and he is benefiting the North American scene lots.

2. Sebastian Giovinco - Toronto FC
A new addition to the Toronto franchise and what an addition. The Italian international possesses everything an attacker should with passing and shooting; though he perhaps should be better behind Altidore rather than next to him, but he can give a different dimension to the league. A big threat for every team in the MLS and probably the World too on his day.

1. David Villa - New York City FC
This is the obvious choice for first place and no wonder why. A veteran at the highest of levels including a World Cup Winners Medal makes him one of the most qualified players in World football. He still has the ability too with a huge 19 shooting and he should definitely get the goals in the MLS or even in European leagues. A quality player who will be amongst the goals in the league and potentially make the new side play off winners at the end of the season.

Ya, very good article. I love watching Obafemi Martins, and I really liked Kaka and all of Orlando in their first game. Giovinco may just be the spark to start getting Jozy some goals (especially if the first game was any indication).

It would be awesome to be able to play MLS in FMH15. I just saw someone created an Indian League that's playable in FMH15, I would LOVE to find an MLS mod and start a career in the U.S.
