A Walk Down The History Lane

Introduction

"History are who we are and why we are the way we are."

History, something probably every students hate during school times, and something that one will fall in love in when you don't need to memorize those names and historical events to pass your exams, but to simply immerse yourself in the beauty of history itself. That's enough of "history", you may wonder by now what does history had to do with football or FMM? Well, let me introduce you this challenge created by myself about 2 years ago, The History Lane Challenge!

So what is this challenge all about? As suggested by the name, it's basically a series of challenges that linked historical events from the 1st century to current days with the game. Such historical events include the Roman Empire, King Arthur and much more, and challenges ranged from having your strikers scoring goals to having your goalkeepers and defenders scoring goals! The challenge will include 16 mini challenges each last for 1 season, which make the entire challenge 16 seasons long.

So without further ado, let's dip into the the game. First of all, here 's the first challenge, featuring the Roman's Four Emperors!

Challenge 1

Spoiler

AD1 - AD100 (1st Century)

Roman's Four Emperors
Between AD1 to AD100, Europe, North Africa and the Near East fell under increasing domination by the Roman Empire, lead by Augustus and later the Four Emperors, Galba, Otho, Vitellius, and Vespasian.
Challenge : Join any team and name 4 Italians as your version of the Four Emperors. Get as many goals as possible from the Four Emperors in one season.
Points :
0-25 goals / 2 points
26-50 goals / 4 points
51-75 goals / 6 points
76-100 goals / 8 points
>101 goals / 10 points

The challenge will start with having 4 Italians scoring a combined goals total of more than 101 to hit the full marks. Since Italians will be required for the first challenge, the club choice will be a team from Italy.

0&key=e3859c3b324199870105262def19601bf7

The Great Zebre Juventus! With the players they currently have and their budget, Juventus will be an obvious choice for the first 7 seasons (will be required to move away in Challenge 8). And as for the players, I will be going with a 2 strikers formation with 2 inside forwards.

The Four Emperors

Emperor 1

Spoiler

Ciro Immobile

Screenshot_2019-12-25-17-03-32-103_com_sega.soccer.thumb.jpg.34eb77b7097499f81db6cc5334589efe.jpg

It's a one-season challenge with the 4 Italians, so age is not a problem. Ciro Immobile coming in as the first of the 4 emperors, and hopefully his shooting and movement stats can help him grabbing some goals to hit as many points as possible in the first challenge.

Emperor 2

Spoiler

Andrea Belotti

Screenshot_2019-12-25-17-03-34-951_com_sega.soccer.thumb.jpg.987215ed165e7dc75dcce1b0d6c5022b.jpg

Probably the first name that popped out when you are looking for an Italian striker. It's Andrea Belotti joining in as the second emperor.

Emperor 3

Spoiler

Federico Bernardeschi

Screenshot_2019-12-25-17-03-37-841_com_sega.soccer.thumb.jpg.d93cbde67a39357cc39aee2fe77bd8f9.jpg

Doesn't need to look elsewhere to get an Italian winger, Federico Bernardeschi who's already in the team will be the 3rd emperor.

Emperor 4

Spoiler

Domenico Berardi

Screenshot_2019-12-25-17-03-40-547_com_sega.soccer.thumb.jpg.f447700c9b62d30a62929af6b34f2188.jpg

And last but not least, once a FMH legend, Domenico Berardi will be the 4th emperor. Anyone remember this legend that had been a 1KC favorites a few versions ago?

With the team and players ready, stay tuned for a long walk down the history lane. ;)

Nice player choices for challenge 1, good luck mate 😉

Simply the best Italians you can get that fit straight in the team, thanks!

Looks interesting Kun, goodluck!

The "interesting" part will be in the last few challenges where I will have to play goalkeepers and defenders upfront 😅 Thanks!

Interesting one. Really miss Berrardi though sad injury stall his career back then. Luckily he’s back on form now

He's still a beast, at least from what he's doing in my save atm, still can recall having him scoring 90+ goals per season in FMH

Some cracking choices. Good luck mate.

Hopefully Immobile can score as much as he does in your Pensioner challenge at a much younger age 😂, thanks!

Challenge 1 : Roman's Four Emperors

"Fellow citizens, we cannot escape history."

AD1 - AD100 (1st Century)

Getting as many goals as possible from the 4 Italians (Immobile,Belotti, Bernardeschi and Berardi) is what I need to do in the first challenge featuring the Roman Empire.

Higuain left the team in a part exchange deal for Immobile, while both Pjanic and Douglas Costa left for Arsenal. Just can't resist the money Arsenal came with.

Though it will be an easy win when Immobile scored in the 52nd minute to hand us a 3-1 lead, but Lukaku's brace denied the win, which send the match into penalties and we finally grabbed a win in a 7-6 shootout bringing us the second trophy of the career.

100 points, 112 goals and an undefeated season. Not bad at all for a first season, though goals conceded are worrying especially when the next challenge is to concede as few as possible. A change in tactics is needed.

Belotti dipped in form in the end of the season, which makes him 4 goals short from winning the Golden Boot.

And finally the main show, the Four Emperors!

Emperor 1 - Ciro Immobile

Screenshot_2019-12-26-09-16-58-426_com_sega.soccer.thumb.jpg.f05174f9061c1be2f2c6456b29233118.jpg

Dropped a little bit in attributes as he reached 30 years old.

And he managed to score 27 goals in the 45 matches played. Not too impressive yet not too bad.

Emperor 2 - Andrea Belotti

Screenshot_2019-12-26-09-17-03-797_com_sega.soccer.thumb.jpg.1db3a23718930597499700f1bb8c6d49.jpg

He could have scored more but he dipped in form in the last few matches ending in 32 goals for him.

Current Goals Count : 27 + 32 = 59

Already in the 6 points region but still needed at least 42 goals from both wingers.

Emperor 4 - Federico Bernardeschi

Screenshot_2019-12-26-09-17-11-500_com_sega.soccer.thumb.jpg.d7029760e5aaf721612227428a6b963b.jpg

Attributes pretty much the same with the start of the season.

And he got himself 18 goals as well as 16 assists from the wings.

Current Goals Count : 27 + 32 + 18 = 77

Already in the 8 points region, but still needed at least 24 from Berardi to hit full points in the first challenge.

Emperor 4 - Domenico Berardi

Screenshot_2019-12-26-09-17-20-191_com_sega.soccer.thumb.jpg.c6a21bbee5beed1390f5a9acca2b225a.jpg

A huge improvement in attributes for Berardi there!

20 goals for Berardi from the wing is not bad at all, tbh he's the most impressive player out of the 4, however that 20 goals will bring the goals count to 97, 4 goals short from hitting 10 points.

The History Lane Challenge (Summary)

Spoiler

Challenge 1 : Roman's Four Emperors ✔️

Spoiler

Emperor #1 Ciro Immobile - 27

Emperor #2 : Andrea Belotti - 32

Emperor #3 : Federico Bernardeschi - 18

Emperor #4 : Domenico Berardi - 20

Total Goals Scored : 97

Points : 8/10

Challenge 2 : Five Good Emperors

That's it, 4 goals short from hitting 101 goals, giving me 8 points for the first challenge. Slightly disappointing in the number of goals scored, as Paulo Dybala playing in the AMC position have grabbed some goals away with 17 goals scored. However, the overall performance of the team was decent enough, having an undefeated season in the league, and only a few seconds away from getting into the UCL Final. Anyway, it's time to say goodbye to the "Four Emperors" as we now entered the era of Five Good Emperors, to witness the downfall of the Roman Empire.

Challenge 2 : Five Good Emperors

Spoiler

AD101 - AD200 (2nd Century)

Five Good Emperors
In this period, history witness the end of the glorious Pax Romana, as well as the downfall of Roman Empire, after  death of the emperor Marcus Aurelius, last of the Five Good Emperors, which include Nerva, Trajan, Hadriab, Antoninus Pius and Marcus Aulerius.
Challenge : Sell or demote the Four Emperors from the previous challenge. Name five Italian defensive players ( goalkeeper, defenders, defensive midfielders ). Try your best in defending your Empire by conceding as few league goals as possible in one season.
Points :
>41 goals conceded / 2 points
31-40 goals conceded / 4 points
21-30 goals conceded / 6 points
11-20 goals conceded / 8 points
0-10 goals conceded / 10 points

The next challenge will be about defending, something which the team hasn't do well this season, conceding 36 goals, which will only give 4 points if we continue such form next season. It's time for the Four Emperors to leave the team, and we welcomed the Five Good Emperors. A change in tactics is definitely needed. Stay tuned for the next challenge, thanks for reading and comments are appreciated. :D

Sneak peak of the "Five Good Emperors"

Spoiler

I will be going with 4 at the back this time, and the 5 Emperors will be a GK, a LB, a RB and 2 CB.

Emperor 1

Screenshot_2019-12-26-10-33-30-687_com_sega.soccer.thumb.jpg.f28bbb5a1b41352066ff680b73287175.jpg

Doesn't need to look elsewhere for an Italian GK, as Mattia Perin who had been the main man last season will easily fits in. Just hope that he can do better than last season.

Emperor 2

Screenshot_2019-12-26-10-33-00-623_com_sega.soccer.thumb.jpg.67c99ea42c320db2a2e607570b6bc6d1.jpg

This could be a risky move, as a young Luca Pellegrini who spent last season out on loan returned and be our 2nd Emperor.

Emperor 3

Screenshot_2019-12-26-10-32-57-831_com_sega.soccer.thumb.jpg.b14c39c0db6994b83a35d5441e0a6435.jpg

Another player already in the team last season, Mattia De Sciglio will be the 3rd Emperor. Hopefully he won't disappoint.

Emperor 4

Screenshot_2019-12-26-10-33-03-215_com_sega.soccer.thumb.jpg.43c9181e21713701719721449573c3b3.jpg

Alessio Romagnoli joined the team as the 4th Emperor, probably will be the heart of the defense line.

Emperor 5

Screenshot_2019-12-26-10-33-05-716_com_sega.soccer.thumb.jpg.05b3646b0df623ec14bdf1f3d78b813b.jpg

Luiz Felipe from Lazio joined in as the 5th Emperor. He was actually Brazillian, but since he played for the Italy national team, that made him an Italian and will fits well in the team. We do have Rugani, but his defensive stats aren't good so I decided to go with a more secure choice with Luiz Felipe.

Bad luck with the 1st challenge missing out on full points but good amount of goals scored. Let's see how you do in defense.

Thanks, the next challenge will be tough at least for me, I'm just not good at defensive tactics 😅

Lovely start, close getting those extra pts, but still good stuff. Interested to see how you get on with the next one.

Probably can hit in those 101 goals if Belotti didn't dipped in form in the last few games, thanks!

If only CR7 didn't grab all the goals when he's on the pitch 😂 Thanks anyway.

101 goals was going to be a tough task in season 1 but that is a very good total and start.

Thanks! Satisfied with the results, especially being unbeatable in the first season. Still, 4 goals short from hitting full points is a slight disappointment. 😅

A Walk Down The History Lane

Challenge 2 : Five Good Emperors

"People are trapped in history and history are trapped in them."

Spoiler

We will be staying in the Roman Empire for Challenge 2, this time instead of scoring, we will need to do our best in defending. The Five Good Emperors named to defend the goal this round will be Mattia Perin as the goalkeeper, Luca Pellegrini as the left back, Mattia De Sciglio as the right back, and finally Alessio Romagnoli and Luiz Felipe as the center backs. I initially played a 4-in the back formation, but after conceding a few in the first few league game, I switched to a 5-in the back, with Matthjis De Ligt as the 5th defender, the more the better isn't it?

As for the incoming, Fabian became the second 100 million midfielder joining the team after Tielemans signing last summer. Bertrand Traore arrived as the team's main right winger after departure of Berardi. Thomas Strakosha came in as a goalkeeper to replace Matia Perin next season. I have been preparing for the next challenge involving a Korean, Japanese and Chinese as well, by bringing in Hwang Hee-Chan, Shoya Nakajima and Zhang Yuning.

Let's get into the team performance, as we aim to concede not more than 10 league goals.

August

1.thumb.png.8179bad6aebe726418a8f0133725f348.png

Started the season with matches against 2 strong opponents Milan and Atalanta and conceded 2 goals this month, which lead to a change in formation to a 5-in back ultra-defensive one.

Goals Conceded : 2

September

2.thumb.png.072e2dbde28db3cdfffb28ded2f147c8.png

Still 2 goals conceded this month, against Brescia and Roma, while the team managed to defeat both Barcelona and Liverpool in UCL Group Stage. With 4 goals conceded in 2 months, it seems unlikely for us to hit the full points for this round.

Goals Conceded : 4

October

3.thumb.png.a6d4ff0152aabf622e69a02b9047f5da.png

Another month, 2 strong opponents and conceded 3 against Inter and Napoli as well as receiving our first league defeat.

Goals Conceded : 7

November

4.thumb.png.977c2bc0e1fc0971c086aeaaff66d266.png

This month seems better with no strong opponents in the league, and we managed to keep a series of cleansheets this month.

Goals Conceded : 7

December

5.thumb.png.6697c23f951b143d4bfa48d1ac2ea915.png

Another 2 goals conceded against Udinese and Torino making it 9 goals conceded so far. 10 points seems a distant dream now.

Goals Conceded : 9

January

6.thumb.png.6b668ec95d9e7508df6d1e8fa5222eae.png

Not the best month for the team, as we conceded another 2 against Milan and Atalanta, making it a total of 11 goals conceded so far, dropping into the 8 points region.

Goals Conceded : 11

February

7.thumb.png.6d1010f8cf928a47de50bab5fbdb69aa.png

Another goal conceded against Pescara this month in a 4-1 win. Conceding less than 20 to achieve the 8 points seems possible with this rate.

Goals Conceded : 12

March

8.thumb.png.0a99236951f5dec3d2f269aa62c1e96e.png

Faced Napoli this month, this time beating them 4-2 but conceded 2 as well.

Goals Conceded : 14

April

9.thumb.png.2eed251870a71ca3d868e4e5aa834edf.png

Not a single league goals conceded this month.

Goals Conceded : 14

Conceded another 3 in the final month, with a total of 17 goals conceded in the entire season, achieving another 8 points for this round. Pretty satisfied with this results anyway, we went from conceding 30+ last season to only 17 this season, though goals scored dropped as well, as I basically play with an ultra-defensive tactic. Won the league easily as well.

Goals conceded in cup matches didn't count so I switched back to the attacking tactic last season in the Super Cup match to gain a win against Inter.

And we collected the first Champions League trophy with a win against Man City in the Final. I played with the ultra-defensive tactic and still managed to win 3-0 surprisingly.

Emperor #3 : Federico Bernardeschi - 18

Emperor #4 : Domenico Berardi - 20

Total Goals Scored : 97

Points : 8/10

Challenge 2 : Five Good Emperors ✔️

Spoiler

Emperor #1 : Mattia Perin

Emperor #2 : Luca Pellegrini

Emperor #3 : Mattia De Sciglio

Emperor #4 : Alessio Romagnoli

Emperor #5 : Luiz Felipe

Total Goals Conceded : 17

Points : 8/10

Challenge 3 : The Rise Of Asia

Total Points : 16/20

So another season with 8 points, that was a decent result, at least for me, since we went from a team that didn't bother to defend to one that only conceded 17 league goals, though the number of goals scored was a bit low consider that we play an ultra-defensive tactic. Anyway, Challenge 2 witnessed the downfall of the Roman Empire in 2nd Century, and we will be leaving Europe for the next challenge, off to Asia!

Challenge 3 : Rise Of Asia

Spoiler
AD201 - AD300 (3rd Century)

The Rise of Asia
Far in Asia, China entered the famous period of The Three Kingdoms which was the tripartite division of China between the states of Wei,  Shu, and Wu. Meanwhile, Korean was leaded by its own Three Kingdom. And Japan was in the Kofun Period.
Challenge : Name a Chinese, a Korean (can be either South or North Korean) and a Japanese player. Each of the three players much score a number of goals in one season.
Points :
1 of the 3 players scoring 20 goals each/ 3 points
2 of the 3 players scoring 20 goals each/ 6 points
All 3 players scoring 20 goals each / 10 points

The next challenge seems easy as I just need to have 3 players representing Korea, Japan and Chinese to score 20 goals each to achieve the 10 points. I have loaded Chinese league in the save, so there's some quality choices available for the Chinese player. As for the Japanese and Korean, there's a few quality one in the game, so hopefully that's not something to worry about. Anyway, thanks for reading and stay tuned for the upcoming journey in Asia.

Players next round...

Spoiler

Korean

I can choose to use either a South Korean or a North Korean, though Juventus already have a North Korean which is Kwang Song Han, but I decided to go with a much experienced player which is Hwang Hee-Chan from Red Bull Salzburg. Had some great results from him in my previous save, so have high hopes in him getting the 20 goals.

Japanese

Screenshot_2019-12-26-20-07-33-689_com_sega.soccer.thumb.jpg.e0ea7c860738f7aafbdd94fc2940b41a.jpg

I actually have 2 options for the Japanese, Shoya Nakajima from Porto or Takumi Minamino (a future Reds) from Red Bull Salzburg, and actually bought both so if one fail to impress, I will switch to the another. Shoya Nakajima looks like a decent player, and will be playing as a left inside forward.

Chinese

Screenshot_2019-12-26-20-07-28-816_com_sega.soccer.thumb.jpg.17b9c0d10931b604c5cde46c36a72a15.jpg

No, not Shan Huanhuan, though I did brought Shan Huanhuan in on loan, but he just didn't look like the one that can play till 49 in the other save. So here's the China representative, Zhang Yuning, a former West Brom and Werder Bremen player. He looks decent with the shooting attributes, and hopefully can get the 20 goals.

Good work on the second challenge mate. I am also pretty bad at defensive tactics so you put in a much better performance than i ever could.  Let's rule with the Asians now. Hwang Hee-Chan, i used quite a lot last year and he is pretty good with IT.

Thanks Kanegan, defensive tactic is just not my type, always favour a 4-3 win rather than a 2-0 win lol, glad that the defensive challenge is over. Hwang Hee-Chan was one that surprised me in my previous Ajax save, him hitting in 20 goals shouldnt be a problem.

Dayot Upamecano joined the team as a backup center back after departure of Felipe, Romagnoli and Rugani. Kieran Tierney and Trent Alexander-Arnold were the biggest signing this season, with Minamino joining as a backup Japanese player just in case Nakajima didn't performed well. Lafont joining in as the new GK, since Strakosha's not having a good time.

Challenge 4 : Converting Roman

Spoiler
AD301 - AD400 (4th Century)

Converting Roman
The early part of this century was shaped by Constantine The Great from Illyian-Greek origin, who became the first Roman Emperor to convert to Christianity. Since then, the Christian religion had been growing fast in the West.
Challenge : Name a Greek attacking midfielder and an Italian striker. The Italian striker must score less than 5 goals last season and must not already be in your team. Have the Greek attacking midfielder converting the poor striker to a scoring machine in one season.
Points :
0-10 goals scored by the striker / 2 points
11-20 goals scored by the striker / 4 points
21-30 goals scored by the striker / 6 points
PLUS
0-10 assists by the Greek / 2 points
11-20 assists by the Greek / 4 points

Back to Europe and the Roman Empire next season, but something different in the next challenge, I can only use an Italian striker that scored less than 5 goals last season, and have a Greek attacking midfielder "converting" the poor striker into a goal-scoring machine. Options are very limited for both the Italian and the Greek. Greece had a lot of quality defenders, but no quality attacking midfielders, so the next challenge may be a tricky one. Thanks for reading, and comments are appreciated.

Players for next round ...

The Italian

Options are limited, and Balotelli was the chosen one for the challenge. Hopefully his aerial and penalty skills can help in getting the 20+ goals needed to hit the full points next round. Could be a risky move in choosing him though.

Screenshot_2019-12-27-20-17-14-998_com_sega.soccer.thumb.jpg.11e495fcb2a0c696eaeb15f944e1609f.jpg

As for the Greek, have to go with a left-back retrained into a left winger for the challenge, since there's no Greek attacking midfielder in the save. Hopefully his crossing can help in getting some assists from corners to hit the 10+ assists needed.

Thanks, as long as he didn't burn our dressing room, he's a good player ;), though it seems like he's causing a lot of "in-squad divisions" since joining the club lol, half of the team is unhappy, and I'm going to blame him for that 😂

This is him in my save after I sold him. He's still carrying good numbers at 31yo. Retrained but mostly used as AP in CM.
