Help Free kick taker: how to choose them?

Hi everybody!

I'm in career in Italian Serie C. In my team I need a free kick taker, but I don't know how to choose it. What's your strategy about this? Looking for a particular attribute (eg shoot) or read scouts reports?

Thanks in advance

On the reports for the players there’s sometimes “effective free kick taker” or “set piece/dead ball specialist”. I just set it to one of them and then don’t bother changing it until I sell the player.

If I don’t have any of either then I just leave it and the game decides who takes. Doesn’t seem to make any difference still plenty of free kicks go in :)

Yeah you got that right even in my current 1kc Kristoffer Ajer is taking the free kick since season 1

Ok i see from that he would be a good choice. Wouldnt that leave you short at the back and suscepetable to the counter?

I'm guessing not as you wouldnt do it otherwise. Do you concede at all during those scenarios?

Barely concede from it since I use 3 atb and Ajer is a Libero so that means he’s always out of position.

Thanks for reply mate! I don't how many reports I saw from scouts, no one report "good free kick taker", only "not so good in free kick"... I can't find a free kick taker for my team :(

Huh. I look at five things:

  1. Shooting - sort the players by shooting ability (in the set pieces / free kicks screen)...
  2. Crossing - deprioritise any with low crossing stats, prioritise any with high crossing stats - though this is my least important criteria...
  3. Reports - for the top ~10 players above, check their coaching report to see if it says anything about free kicks / set pieces. Deprioritise anyone with it as a negative, prioritise anyone with a positive.
  4. Left vs Right - I prefer left footed players to make free kicks & corners on the right side of the pitch, and visa versa.
  5. 1st vs 2nd Team - as I rotate heavily, and DON’T change my set piece takers before every match - I need 1-2 players from my 2nd team (weaker opposition / cup games) in the list also.

As an example, for Man Utd 2nd season - I’ve got (From Left Side of Pitch) -

  1. Pogba - effective FK, right foot, 15 shoot, only 11 cross, 1st team
  2. Messi* - expert, left foot (boo!), 20 shoot, 14 cross, 1st team
  3. Rashford - no comment, right foot, 16 shoot, only 10 cross, 1st team
  4. Pereira - effective set piece, 2 footed, only 11 shoot, 15 cross, 2nd team.

* PS. Yes my only signing was Messi, start of 2nd season, £50m + Sanchez!
