The boards of different clubs might have different priorities or hidden stats of some sort. Getting upgrades or affiliates in Korea was a nightmare, but in Atalanta it was very easy, the board gave me the last two training upgrades in the first half of the first season.

Gvardiol has always been on my radar in a new save, but he's usually too expensive and I often opt for Bornauw instead. Not as good on the ball but he's very good physically and mentally.

It gives me a perverse pleasure to see Richarlison lagging behind as I had predicted, but I'm glad the others are doing well!

Yeah it was a slog getting the facilities up here but I did read in the general thread people taking about if one of the youth or training facilities gets too high then you have to bring the lower one up before the higher one will be accepted again. So I may have fallen into that trap and have been going for the wrong one for years. We’ll never know now though.

He looks like he’d be great if got at the beginning of the game to develop. I’ll look out for Bornauw as well as he’s new to me.

I’ve come to accept that Richarlison is only really going to be a ‘in the 20’s’ man here with this system. I think perhaps it’s time for Maldini to shine and replace him in the preferred three.

Hello and welcome to the latest update of this Goaltopia attempt with four players. I finished season seven a few days ago and meant to do a single update for that over the weekend but never got round to it. I then completed season eight so thought today that it made perfect sense to just do a little double update. I had a few ideas of potential changes to the system for season seven and at one stage I was going to open up a test save I have at Real with great players to try a few things there but in the end I just decided to try a few things as I was going here as I just want to play this career to a finish at this stage. So basically, keep that in mind when it comes to our numbers and how they may differ a bit to what you’d expect based on previous seasons.

Season 7

We’ll get straight into action with the transfers.

Transfers

I mentioned last time that Kessié would be leaving so my main priority was to replace him which proved a little frustrating as I had trouble finding a decent replacement. I had wanted to sign that great Hungarian player but after agreeing the fee we then couldn’t agree terms with the player so a different approach was required. I ideally wanted a peak aged player to come in to try and prevent there being a major drop off in our form but there just wasn’t anyone available which was frustrating. In the end I decided to push Bellingham from the right to mainly play in the centre of midfield and brought in a young wide player to try and develop. We’ve got a few players about 27 or 28 so there’ll be plenty of work to do over the next few years as I attempt to build the next squad so hopefully we can keep the returns decent throughout these troublesome years.

Team Performances

A wee slip up in the quarter final of the Champions League was the only blot on our copybook and it was Dortmund who broke our hearts. A few too many draws in the league for my liking but a decent enough season in all.

Rossoneri Toffees

Maldini really came of age this season and this was the highlight game for him.

He ended up with the best return out of the foursome with 38 goals, Leão and DCL weren’t far behind and it won’t come as much of a shock to many to discover that Richarlison was at the back end with 21 goals. Just 126 goals in total for the boys this season but much less game played so difficult to be too harsh on them. I tried a few times during the season to extend the players contracts but they wanted such extreme amounts and we just couldn’t manage it. Toward the end of the season we had that message saying that Richarlison expected a new deal coming from his agent; I went in and what they wanted was much less than they wanted previously so job done and another five years for him. The same happened with Leão shortly after so that just left DCL with only one year left on his deal but I can already confirm that he signed a new deal along with Maldini early into season eight so we should have another five years left.

We move straight on to the next season now.

Season 8

A few things I wanted to try this season and that’s what happened. Let’s see how it went.

Transfers

I managed to get that great Hungarian player this time along with a new number one goalie who replaced the ageing Rulli. The highlight was definitely de Jong going to Chelsea for £60m with only about two weeks left on his contract, we’ll take that! That was actually at the end of season seven but showing here and we used that money to buy the new goalkeeper I believe. Anyway, we still have a lot of work to do over the next few years with the squad so we can only try our best and hope we get it right.

Team Performances

It was a clean sweep this year but it’s the league goals scored that was most pleasing as it was the highest we’ve managed yet I believe. I switched fairly early on to what was very close to the original system of this ilk from the end of last year's game so we’ll probably just stick with this from now on I think.

Rossoneri Toffees

I’m going to have to give him his due as he did perform really well this year so this will be the highlight game of this season.

The four managed 138 goals this season to add to their tally. I’d mentioned Richarlison just before about how well he’d done and he did do well and it’s looking like our system change may have suited him. Just the 27 goals for him though in the end as he did suffer a few injuries so taking that into account, it’s easily his best season yet. Leão and DCL haven’t really done so well the last couple of years which may well be indicative of the changes we’ve made but could also be the fact that Maldini has become an equal if that makes sense. Before he was very much the fourth man but that’s not the case now which has changed our rotation.

Final Thoughts

Another two seasons done and we should have another four seasons left so we just carry on and see where we end up. Work has to be done on the squad and I can’t say at this stage how I’ll approach that, plus the two Everton boys are getting older and could decline at any moment you’d think so we’ll just see how it goes.

Thank you for reading.

Well done Ian. Getting that money for De Jong is nuts when his contract was up so soon. This is going to be a great score by the time you finish (when they are all 42).

Thanks Rob, he was on my list to replace as he was 29 I think so I accepted the offer without knowing his contract was actually up anyway. One of them funny ones like the players wanting ridiculous wages for years only for them to eventually demand a new contract with more realistic demands. I’m going to keep going for as long as possible but if it ends up being much more than the four years we have left on their contracts I may take a break from it. We’ll see though.

Great number of points Ian. As i have said before, so good to see DCL scoring so much.

Thank you Kane, yeah he’s done very well so far and it’ll be interesting to see how old him and Richarlison are when they start to mega decline. I seem to recall last year it was often about 33 when a lot of players seemed to drop a bit but could be different this year.

Well done on a great couple of seasons there Ian, this is going to be a great score. Keep it up 😁

Thanks Richard, yeah the total just keeps getting bigger as the years go by. We’ll see where they end up. Maldini is much younger than the rest so it would be nice to get the most out of him before we end things. He’ll be 30 I think when the 4 years are up and it doesn’t seem right to finish then so if we could get another two or three years out of this to take him to his true decline then that would be ideal.

Well done fella. Couple of grest seasons there.

Richarlison is a funny one. Looks the part but never quite reaches the heights. Still you're doing wonders with all four.

Thank you Woody, I was hoping for more out of Richarlison I have to say but can’t be helped. Can’t see him doing that much better now but I can just seen him being the sort that’ll always get somewhere in the 20’s even when he’s mega declined.

Season 9

We’re powering through now as I bring you the season nine update. I felt I was somewhat settled with the system and I was determined not to overthink the transfers so if that meant I was left with a few too many older players then so be it. The only rule I’ve got now is that I can’t sign anybody over 26 and can’t offer any deals for more than one year to players 29 or older (apart from the challengers) so I’m not thinking much beyond that really.

Transfers

We only brought one player in and that was Reyna who was in a roundabout way our replacement for Valverde who left at 29. I’d have liked to have paid slightly over the odds to keep him for just one more year but couldn’t get him to agree so that was that. I also had Hernandez leave in similar circumstances and just decided to put my trust in a highly promising youngster to be his replacement. There’ll be more of this over the next few years I’m sure so just see how it goes.

Team Performances

A similar season to last by all accounts and a similar league goal return so we were happy. The comprehensive Champions League final victory over Juve was particularly pleasing as they can still be a bit of a pain. We had one big win in the two games we’ve played so far in the CWC which you’ll see below in the players section and we’ll finish that tournament off as soon as we move over to the new season.

Rossoneri Toffees

DCL got himself back up to his best as he hit 60 goals in 59 games, Leão added a further 51 in 58 games, Maldini knocked in 33 in 54 and Richarlison contributed a fairly normal for him 23 goals in 56 games to give our boys a total of 167 goals for the season.

These two games below were the stand outs with the first being most notable for the challengers scoring all 10 of our goals and all four getting on the scoresheet which I’m not sure has ever happened before, might be wrong though. In fairness, Venice weren’t much of a team but we’ve faced similar before and failed to capitalise so I feel we may well have found the best system, just a shame it’s taken us nearly 10 seasons. The second in the CWC was similar with all 10 goals going to our challengers but unfortunately Richarlison couldn’t get himself in on the action as a late sub.

The two Everton boys have started to decline so we’ll keep an eye on that and just hope they can somewhat keep it together for the next few years.

Daniel Maldini: 222 goals in 467 games

Grand Total: 1,203 goals in 1,903 games

Final Thoughts

The best season yet and it feels like we may well have cracked it in terms of the system but unfortunately it may well have come a little too late. We didn’t get the injuries this year though with only one short one to Maldini I believe and with 20 of the goals coming in just two games you can never be sure that you’ve cracked it. We’ll be going the same way again next season though so we’ll see how we get on and hopefully those two older players won’t decline too quickly.

Thank you reading.

That is one great season Ian, they all did there bit, great stuff.

Thanks Richard, they certainly did this year. Hopefully they’ve got at least another good year in them before the older boys start to drop off.

Season 10

Another season completed so another update.

Transfers

We aren’t quite yet into total regen territory with the transfers as 26 year old Kana was our only singing apart from youth graduates. He effectively replaced Havertz who if I’m being honest has been a disappointment. His attributes dropped upon arrival and he never really recovered so maybe just my luck on this save but he doesn’t seem to be the player he was on previous games. I managed to get both de Ligt and Saelemaekers who were both about 30 to sign one year extensions as they certainly looked like they had one more decent season in them but it’s obviously just delaying the inevitable and we’ll need replacements for both next season.

Team Performances

The most we’ve scored in the league but there were a few funny results which could be a sign of things to come as some of the challengers decline. A nice enough season though.

Rossoneri Toffees

After mentioning how last year things seemed to go for us in terms of injuries, it was obvious this year that wouldn’t be the case. It wasn’t as they suffered a few and it was Richarlison who suffered the most and that’s not what you want to see at his age.

They still had another great season though as they scored 151 goals in total which you could argue is our best yet considering the injuries and slight decline of the two Everton lads. It definitely seems like we may have the system the best it’s been at this stage. We tied Richarlison and Leão down to new five year deals but no joy with the other two. Maldini just wants too much money so I’m confident he’ll sign later but DCL isn’t even open to negotiations so I’m kind of thinking it might be it for him and us after the two years he has left on his deal. We’ll just have to see though as you never know.

Final Thoughts

Not much more to add to what I’ve already said really. Unless DCL signs a new deal we only have two seasons to go so we’ll get them played and see where that leave us.

Thank you for reading.

Thank you Richard, they do look decent. It’s those red downward arrow things that get you and make you think things are worse than they are. Just two years left and hopefully they’ll remain in good shape until the bitter end.

Two brilliant seasons. I have stumbled across a similar transfer ruling too. Great minds think alike.

Your goal returns are nuts though.

Thanks Rob, it seems like a sensible plan and makes it all seem easier in my head when I’ve made the rules and won’t deviate.

The tactic seems better but when we do slip up it’s incredibly frustrating like the one I put in the FMM’d thread yesterday. It’ll be the strikers just blasting the ball out of the stadium time and time again or if they do get it on target you can be sure it’ll be straight at the keeper and then the opposition will often score with just one chance. Doesn’t matter too much though really as long as it’s not too often it happens like that 😂

Impressive total Ian. Good luck on the next 2

Thank you Broodje, two more decent seasons would be nice so they can finish things on a high.

Two more seasons to absolutely rip apart the league. Go Ian go.

Thanks Kane, yes hopefully we can keep things good for the final couple of seasons.  It’s probably good to finish then anyway as I can see things getting a bit frustrating if we kept going until they all mega declined.

Season 11

It looks like we only have two season's left due to DCL not entertaining the idea of signing a contract extension so here I am with the update for the first of those two seasons. If I’d have played season 12 too I would’ve been tempted to just do a double update to finish but I haven’t so just one it will have to be.

Transfers

Not much happening again with just a bunch of youth graduates and one signing for the midfield who is a regen. I managed to get a few older players to sign just one year extensions to keep us ticking over and with there just being two seasons left I may well just try and predominately go with what we’ve got until the end.

Team Performances

We won it all but there were a good few less than great results and it’s starting to get to the stage where our ageing challengers are becoming a bit of a hindrance. Four of those league games where we dropped points happened in the final month of the season and we ended up only six points above second placed Juve so we may have a battle on our hands next season if that’s anything to go by.

Rosseneri Toffees

The highlight game has to be this; a 4-0 victory with a goal each for the challengers, it just looks so nice even if we were rather wasteful throughout the game.

There’s a very noticeable decline in the two Everton boys now and it’s showing on the pitch but still 126 goals for the season which we’re happy with. It’s looking like the system is much better now than it was earlier on which does make you wonder what could’ve been but no point going over it now. It was Maldini who suffered a few little injuries this year but with rotating four into three positions, it just doesn’t have quite the negative impact so I’ve left those shots out. I’ve also not bothered with the player history ones as they don’t show much and the totals will show next season when we finish what is looking like the final season.

Final Thoughts

Another decent season considering the decline of DCL and Richarlison. The former still won’t entertain negotiating a new deal so next season will more than likely be the last and if I’m being honest I think it’s the right time to end things as it’s clear that it’s going to be a slog soon. Even Leão will start to decline shortly you’d think and we don’t have any goal targets to hit so there’s not really much there to keep us going but it is a slight shame for Maldini as he’s still got more left in the tank. Can’t be helped though so I’ll play the final season out now and be back with the final update later.

Thank you for reading.

DCL has certainly dropped over this past couple of years so Rich could easily get him this year. We’ll see how it goes but it’s very much the other two as first choice now.

Quite fitting that we were drawn against Everton in the Champions League in the final season. They nearly won too but Reyna broke their hearts with the last kick of the game.

A quick check on DCL and the contract situation as of now and It looks like this won’t be the final season after all.
