BENFICA - THE JOURNEY

Benfica had a fair amount of transfer activity in the summer with the loses of semendo to Barca and Lindelof to United to name just a few. I take the reins of this glorious club with nearly half the squad of 'talent' out on loan!!!

My aim for this save is purely to see how far I can go before I am either sacked or i retire. The main aim being to promote within, buy as a very last resort but make a continual profit each season. 

As I have got the game on release day, I am optimistic that I can achieve as much as possible without being hindered by any bugs ?. 

Here goes!

The board are happy to see me but the players may not!

Squad depth and weakness

The goalkeepers at Benfica will be sufficient for the first season Ceasar and Slivar are decent enough and therefore I wont be signing any. 

The defence is im my eyes one of their weakest areas. The two main cbs are old and slow, right back is also weaker but I feel Douglus on loan from Barca will be fine for the season. I have also promoted Pedro from the reserves whos stats look decent. 

GRIMALDO - Fav left back and best defender.

The Midfield is the best part of the Benfica side with so much talent available and even more out on loan! Patiently waiting for season 2 so I can abuse some of that talent!

SILVA - My fav AmR at Benfica

The attacking options are poor and this was one of the areas I wanted to fix - unfortunately I was unable to with options available. I will look again in jan/summer. Ze Gomes I have promoted from SlB B. 

JIMENEZ - Best striker at Benfica! 

Transfers In

I made 2 signings - Kirchoff (free) as an added option for defence - 1 yr deal so nothing to lose. 

Fontas from celta was 5.5m and again another cb that can play in midfield also. 

I tried to sign a few more but the fees was not what I was willing to spend.

Current results - the new tactics are amazing and I had some fun playing around with them think I have a formation thats working atm.

As you can see look at that talent out on loan! Jovic, Horta and fernandes im looking forward to using.

I was thinking to begin journey Season-2 with Benfica but you've already started it . Maybe now choose other pathway to begin my journey . 

you posted few good career last year ... so im gonna follow this. 

Hope to see you stay at club & bring some gems through the academy . Squad is already talented ...lots of players on loan like Horta , Cristante will become start in future & yeah Grimaldo is one of favourite .. so don't sell him even if you get good offer ?

Can't believe how much of their talent is out on loan, will be interesting to see how the first season pans out but come season 2 you'll be laughing for players to use

Had a wonderful career with Benfica in '17 with their tremendously talented squad. They have sold a few and others have moved on but still enough quality to achieve big things with this group.

End of Season Update

The season turned out to be a mix bag due mostly to trying to nail down a consistant tactic. I found I was losing games I really should of been winning, going down 2-0 in first 20mins in a fair few games and then having to chase the game to win or draw. 

I made it to Jan and where I kept a constant eye on Leon Goretzka he was my number one target - young, quality and potential to achieve a big profit from a future sale. I was made up to get this one sorted so quickly in January! ?

I also was able to bring in Isak, Lucas and Ndidi in on loan which helped me massively. I played Isak and Lucas rarely as they was purely to support the squad. Ndidi was pure class and I was gutted when his loan ended!

19 games from Jan - quality player will be missed in season 2 or will he with Leon arriving!?

End of season close

My inconsistent form was beginning to frustrate me but I stuck with it to win my first award.

First time I got a mention in team of the week - I ended up with infact 3!

I managed to win 2 cups this season and I did okay in Europe before coming unstuck to Juve. 

Players perfomance for the season -

My stand out performer which I was surprised with was Haris Seferovic - he seemed to pop up and score most games and his return was better than Jimenez.

Season 2 

The excitement for season 2 for me is massive players like Jovic, Horta and Talisca are back from loan which can only be a positive. 

I have promoted a number of youngsters to the first team - Ponck is definately one to watch at Centre Back.

This season I aim to be challenging for the title. The talent is there for all to see.

Squad is looking strong but the tactual issues are annoying but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it. While Portugal is typically easy the big three or two in this case can be hard to catch if things aren't going your way but that's half the fun, it'll make winning that title mean more

Excellent first season and when all those loanees come back the team will be so much stronger for season 2. Keep it up

@kylieboi88. The returning loanees should give you lots more options in season 2. Things will improve I'm sure.

End of Season 2

As Horta, Talisca and co walked back into the legendary dressing room of Benfica deep down I sense what was coming - the season to remember!

After speaking to@BatiGoal @Ashez and@Aaron55 on the downlow and with their advice, guidance and support I developed a tactic that would aid me in using the players I had at my disposal. 

I started by requesting to retrain Talisca to a AMR, Horta to a AML and Zivkovic to a Striker - and thankfully they all agreed.

In changing my tactic and using a smaller squad it was time to clear out some deadwood...

His stats look decent but I got a bid of 21m in and after pushing it up to 22m Watford grabbed at the chance to have him. With a cheeky percentage sell on bonus added goodbye sir....

Unfortunately Im keeping the tactic close to my chest for now but here is how it began...

After another slight tweek we clicked...

6-0 against a side that turned me over twice last year. They was 3-0 up in 20mins last season - what a turn around!

We were prolific going forward and we rarely conceded which was music to my ears as last season I was getting hammered.

I found an ex Arsenal star rotting in the reserves. It was only right I gave him a chance and boy did he perform for me. Average form was 8.45 and he scored 7 goals which aided me through the season. IT has really helped him to with greens now showing. Step up Chris Willock.

Nothing worse than hearing your fav player is retiring... only right so sell him for £3.8m - I forgot to mention he retires in 6 months telar!

We made it to the Euro Final, the tactic was killing it. Dont get me wrong I lost some games but I won alot more!

Season 2 dun no!

I won Manager of the month - well deserved but surely it should of been Manager of the Year?

Arsenal have come knocking but there is zero chance I would take that job. Not in a month of sundays!

I had 4 players in the team of the year too. Slight concerned that Svilar made it as I played Caesar all season ?.

And how did we fair with the stats?

Star Players -

My fav youngster from #17 - step up De Ligt! Signed for 22m from Ajax with a p/ex thrown in via Daniel Carrico (spelling?). Well worth the money and only going to get better. Wish his leadership was better he would make a smashing captain!

The best free signing your going to find. High wages but look at them Greens!

Bit part defender who I promoted at start of season 2. Will play a massive part in season 3.

Being kept out the side by Willock at the moment but what a cracking talent! Him and Talisca are by far my fav players!

Rated at £250k when I promoted him. Only going to get better. Currently retraining as AMR just to make him more of a squad player.

Ligt and Ponch are my CB pairing and Ponch is only going to get better. Solid for me last year keeping Lopez out the side

As season 3 nears closer I am again selling deadwood and keeping to my aim of selling more than buying.

Alex Meret has signed to take up the Vacant no.1 spot after Caesar retires

That's a fine season! Great results against your rivals too. Hope you go all the way in Europe too next season. 

Horta and Dias were part of my 11 starters last year in season 3 or 4. Quality players.
