For the work rate debate, first, Work Rate is 50% of Team Work. The other 50% of Team Work is Unselfishness. 

I'm okay with my striker being selfish as it's probably good. If he has half a hint of goal, I want him to take the shot, not pass to someone in a better position.

For Work Rate, I want him to have as high a score as possible. I want him to be hard working on the pitch, getting into good positions, pressuring the opponents (love those goals where he steals the ball off the CD). I also want him working hard off the pitch, in training etc, but I don't know that this attribute affects that (I suspect it might be on the pitch only). 

There is a LOT I don't know about this. For example, how does Work Rate relate to injuries. Does a high value mean he will run more and get injured more easily? Or is it the opposite - do players who work hard get some protection from injuries because they look after themselves better (they certainly seem to be able to cope with High Intensity training better than other people)? Or does it have no effect?

Anyway, I always try to get my striker to have a high value if possible. It's worked for me so far. And if nothing else, at least it doesn't leave my striker feeling like he's at the wrong club because everyone else is hard working.

Aerial is very important to my tactics, so if I have a young striker who has a low starting value for Aerial, then I will probably go for a mentor like Carrillo who will focus on improving his Aerial. But these days, I always pick strikers who are likely to be strong in the air anyway (Sesko, Lucca, Satriano, Piccoli, etc), in which case I will bring in someone who can improve the hidden attributes (like Giroud or Quagliarella) by passing on their whole value. I probably value an increase in Professionalism the most, followed by Determination and Consistency next. I actually value Work Rate a little higher than those two, but you can increase it for many players (but not all) by praising them etc).

Update - Seasons 11 to 13

I didn't have time to write these seasons up individually, so here's a multi-season update.

Some of the old guard (Lainez, Rosas, Nygren, Bello, Nakai and Pollock) left as they approached 30. Johnny also left on a Bosman to Liverpool, one of the very rare cases where I lost a player that I wanted to keep. Apart from that we had the usual turnover of 'failed' wonderkids leaving and new hopefuls coming in.

Three very successful seasons, although we missed the UCL in season 11.

Injuries

Sesko went injury free in seasons 11 and 13, but got two 3 week injuries in season 12.

Meanwhile, Campbell went injury free in seasons 11 and 12 (a nice change from the two seasons before that), but then missed 3 weeks in season 13 and picked up a 2 month injury at the World Cup (after season 13). I'm worried about that one in particular because he's 31 years old now and he's not likely to get back any attributes he loses now.

Here are the guys, still looking fantastic, but the decline is about to start

 

Goals - Sesko

Sesko had three great seasons with 162 goals from 55 games; 159 goals from 50 games; and 201 goals from 58 games.

Yes, you read that right, 201 goals in season 13! He needed 3 goals in the UCL final to make 200 and he did it, then banged in a bonus goal in stoppage time. Legend.

The reason: I experimented with the tactic a bit, going Down Both Flanks and Through Ball instead of Running, and had three or four massive games (8 or 9 goals), but then the tactic tailed off and stopped working so well. I went back to my normal tactic, but that short lived bonus was enough for us to crack the 200.

 

Assists - Campbell

Campbell was remarkably consistent with 109 assists from 56 games twice and 104 assists from 53 games (much better than his injury riddled seasons before that):

Both players are doing massively well and both have now passed the two thirds mark for their respective challenges, way ahead of where I thought they'd be.

The chart for Sesko shows he is almost two full seasons ahead of the curve now (based on a target of 22 seasons), building up plenty of buffer space to help offset the inevitable decline:

 

Final Thoughts

The team is on top of the world, but our main two lads are going to start declining shortly. We should still be looking at a couple of very good seasons before it really bites, but we're entering the messy final third of this career.

Yeah, it's broken really... Part of it is just a slow progression over the last couple of years and lots of little tweaks, but part of it is the corner tactic which adds a lot of goals, and little things like double dipping mentoring and being about to level up Work Rate to insane levels by praising one a month... All that adds up. But there's no way it should be possible.

Still it's a lot of fun to score these stupid amounts...

Yeah mostly - Balanced, with only 1 ST and 3 CMs (instead of 3 STs and 1CM), but lately been using Fast and Wide too. And as I said above for a short while was using Through Balls and Down both Flanks and it was amazing for about 5 or 6games, then was similar to the other one, then not quite as good.

Yeah, surprised me, thought it wasn't possible. Not sure I'll ever get it again, had good luck with injuries, spent time tweaking the tactic, had some luck in general. My next best is quite a few goals less than that. But I'll take it!

Thanks! But sorry, can't tell you his CA as I'm not using my scouting app on this save (as it'd be against the rules). Maybe when I finish I can check. His default PA is 166 in the winter DB, so it will be somewhere around that, but it could be a little higher or a little lower.

Without int.. goals 200 Is still the best.. another career from now with int goals u can push to even 240-250 goals a season...

..before the srart of ur 3k challenge highest 1 players goals in 1 season was 159.. and that record broken by many players who participated in this 3k challenge ...

I've had 175, but like Scratch said takes a bit of luck along the way to have an awesome season like that.....200 is phenomenal

I haven't reached 100 goals yet 🤣🤣... although  I haven't played 1kc since I by mistakenly save over my 1kc save data of 5 season.. and I not able to score even 50 with winger TF tactics...in 1st season..

And 175 was ur club goal only??

Don't worry, sometimes my first seasons are rubbish and I give up and start again....can take 2 or 3 seasons sometimes to kick in, especially if you're not using the usual suspects....

Nah, if you compare to Sesko's other seasons, the next best is 182, so this season was extra special to start with. I don't think I can get it any higher, 240 is too far away to have any hope.

Nothing really to note here - the older generation starting to leave, along with wonderkids who didn't quite make it, while a few new wonderkids came in. The biggest departure was Zabarnyi who was still going strong at 34, having not lost any of his attributes, but we had two replacements that were his equal, so we took Newcastle's £56M.

 

Results

Another 3 very successful seasons, winning almost everything (but getting knocked out of the Premier Sport Cup in round 2 in season 16).

Injuries

Well now...

Campbell had 6 injuries over the 3 years, missing: 2 months, 2 weeks, 10 days, 3 weeks, 3 weeks and 3 weeks again.

But Sesko... Well Sesko went almost the whole 3 years without injury, before succumbing to a 10 day injury near the end of season 16, followed by a month long injury that ruled him out of the CWC.

I'd been talking to @sscout over on Discord about how Sesko was managing to go so long without injury (he had some good theories about players with high physical attributes getting injured less often). Almost straight afterwards Sesko gets injured twice! 🙄

It's worth noting that of the 8 injuries, none were during training (so Low Intensity seems to be working), while 4 were on ITN duty and only 4 were in club games despite them playing a lot more club games. I've also noticed that my players on loan get injured a lot more than those at the club (something else I discussed with sscout). I'm thinking that something about our club leads to less injuries - maybe it's our tactic, or our team work rate / professionalism / dynamics, or our first class facilities, or our gold star physios?

On a positive note, I've been encouraged that despite being 34 and have all those injuries, Campbell has only lost 1 point for his key attributes. I was expecting the decline to be more severe.

 

Development

Both guys starting to decline now, but still way too good for the SPL:

 

Goals - Sesko

Sesko is still going strong with 166 goals from 55 games; 171 goals from 57 games; and 154 goals from 52 games.

I now have 3 or 4 alternate tactics/variations and I swap if one's not working, turning games where he would have gotten no goals into hat-tricks, which has been key in getting so far.

 

Assists - Campbell

Campbell has slowed a little due to the injury disruption, with 88 assists from 53 games; 79 assists from 52 games; and 80 assists from 50 games, but that's still super-human.

Both players are looking like they should be able to complete their challenges easily enough. Only 200 more assists needed for Campbell and 500 more goals for Sesko, which is well ahead of schedule:

 

Final Thoughts

Looking good. I'm not there yet, but I'm wondering if at some point I might need to sacrifice Campbell to make sure his loss of attributes (when they come) doesn't affect Sesko's goal scoring. And I'm a little worried about injury and decline etc, but... I can't have hoped for anything more than this.

Amazing! I think that because you're well ahead of the curve you should stick with Campbell. For a couple of seasons anyway. Surely worth it?
