Off Topic National Walkout Day

I'm guessing that's just something them colleges are doing, but I don't see the point in it really. How is walking out of college on one day going to make a difference to it? It's something going off all over not just in one town. Also the whole idea of increasing the uni fees will make it only for the rich is a load of crap, I'm not exactly rich and I wouldn't be bothered about it as you wouldn't have to pay back until earning a certain amount and if not paid back after a certain time it gets wiped out. Overall this event seems completely stupid and pointless to me.

Ok the thing is Uni fees do not effect the people who are going next year.

Also if you go to a Uni in Wales or Scotland there fees are not effected as they have different rules for theirs.

Also what I completely agree with what Franco had said ;)

I think it makes a strong statment.

Colleges are meant for students, and students are letting government know how they think of what the government is doing.

Schools are meant for students and if they don't want it, it would be wrong to ignore them. It won't change anything, but it's a strong signal.

I bet that's what people thought of the sit-ins and bus boycotts that happened while Martin Luther King was trying to gain black rights.

And no I've heard of colleges happening elsewhere doing it as well and a high school a few towns away is doing something. Letters have been sent to my house for my sister warning about opposite groups who support the goverment are going to try and cause a disturbance so police are being called in for something might happen like last weeks riot.

It's a peaceful protest that should get noticed.

It's a peaceful protest

Bet that's what the students thought other week when they had their protest, but then that got interrupted by people going too violent and just stupidly causing havoc.

But I've never heard of anything like this happening so there could be others doing it just not around Rotherham.

It might be a nice little protest, but with all the stuff that happened with the havoc being caused before I doubt much publicity will be given to it and I can't see this changing anything, but I really hope I'm wrong.

Tbh the only thing I heard was that walk to London but then as of what Franco said with it getting interrupted by people becoming too violent and just stupidly causing havoc.

Besides even if there will be numerous protests the government are not exactly going to do anything about it seeing as they have the power, not students

As of this a true revolution can only be internalised

If they ignore students now, students are going to ignore THEM in later life. Students are the future, one can't simply ignore future...

Politicians are not ignoring anyone.

If conservatives would ignore anyone but the rich, they will never be chosen...

You obviously know fuck all about the UK government then.

I'd love to piss in their colons.

If the Conservatives only wanted to help the rich, they would not be in power, as has already been mentioned. Look at opinion polls from last year, the Tories had a massive percentage favourites. Waay more than the population of rich people.

Furthermore, the child benefit cuts were not particularly beneficial to the rich, no?

As it happens, you only like Labour due to their socialist and somewhat outspoken views, methinks; however if you are a Liber Democrat, I'll save my post on those contradictory fellows another time (no I am not on about tuition fees, rather about their scapegoating of the bankers, it wasthe regulators not the banks, and retrospective laws do not help their case), but again, another topic for another time.

Conservatives are the strictest on immigration and that is one thing most of the population wants to be sorted out and they saw it as a chance to get it sorted. The Conservatives do only help the rich and thats why the rich voted for them. Where I live the is split into Bury North and Bury South. Bury North being the richer of the two voted for Conservatives and Bury South voted Labour.

I'm UKIP myself.

There is not a significant proportion of rich people in the Uk for the Conservatives to get the largest portion of votes. There is only ~1,500,000 people earning over £44,000/year; 10,000,000 voted for them. This time last year 40% of the UK voted for the Conservatives (European Election); 40% of the UK is not rich. Your telling me 2+2=pizza.

I wish 2+2=pizza. I love pizza.

But here where I live it's mainly Labour, has been like that for years. Not sure what it's like at the moment though, probably same.

Well everything I've heard from people is that Conservatives generally help the rich and then there's probably the odd few people who thought 'oh this Gordon fella has no idea wot his torkin bout n tha cuntry is bad lets vote 4 that David insted he ses he will help peepel lyk me.' So basically idiots thinking stupidly. I generally don't know much about the going ons in Politics so don't really know much of the goings on.

Pff, if you want politicians who don't know what they're talking about, look at Nick Clegg during the election:

The banks are lending irresponsibly!

We will make the banks lend to more people!

So if the banks are irresponsible, and there are people even these "irresponsible" people don't trust, those people they won't lend to must be very irresponsible. Not least is it very hard for them to lend in the first place due to some FSA stuff, plus threat of retrospective action over PPI payments*...Blargh I won't go there.

In any case, until someone points out how the 'tories favour the rich, I'm going to try to stay clear of this thread.

*In case you haven't realised, I have relatives in the financial industry, and its probably where I'm gonna work when I'm older to >.>
