Regen Amateur: "Roadrunner" Rodrigo Gomes

Only 184 gls left to score and our next bird is ready to chirp the living yikes out of every coyote. It's the first amateur of new nation Ukraine 🇺🇦, the 6th unique nation in our growing list. 

BG: Please tell me Roadrunner = Speed.

Rodrigo: It's much more than that.

BG: More than raw speed? Go on..

Rodrigo: It refers to the hardships I faced as a young boy in my troubled childhood. Being the only son in a family of 11 it was me who had to do all the running, while my eight sisters stayed home caring for my ailing parents. Money for nothing so the little we had was spent on simple foods from markets in the nearest village 20miles away. A buy here a steal there. A village btw known for the finest pancakes you'll ever eye, yet for which I never had enough coinage for. I can smell them to this day. I did the running. Daily. Barefoot. My father worked all his life in a cork factory 22h a day. During the annual forklift race, he was involved in an accident and lost both legs. I threw him in a wheelbarrow and 66miles further we arrived at the hospital. He was barely alive when we got there, and so was I. I ran and never stopped once. Mom's most treasured possession was the chicken coop. The distance I covered throughout my life running and chasing after all those chickens my sisters intentionally let loose. Damn birds! And those chickens. Hence my name "Roadrunner".

Rodrigo: Yes, Boss.

He's labeled Experienced Striker. Let's hope he draws from experience then having played 52 games and scored 45 goals throughout his amateur career. Well, he's got the Technique most professionals would murder for.

Juicy start but don't get fooled, it was just a one-off as his next 20 games was an image right out of a scary movie. 

Arguably the most disturbing series I've seen from a main striker in a goalscoring challenge. "Roadrunner" only managed +7gls in his next 18, which brings him on 10 gls. 

Form dip? Jet lag? Homesick? Gassy? Divorce? Who knows, who cares, the man has finally woken up to more goals. 

After his Aug. and Dec. hattricks, it's nearly a third one Vs Boavista. This brace confirms his fine performance before passing the baton to the next beacon of hope(less).

A very slow start but great recovery as well to record a more than decent final number. "Roadrunner" did Ukraine proud and we're another 22 gls closer to the finishline. Only 162 to go..

It bumps back to green when I buy a couple extra good men. Obviously everytime I buy an amateur, like now with Kolev, it's an aberration, - yawn - but that message disappears after 1-2 months. So that Transfer Acumen usually jingles between 14-18.

Regen Amateur: Sezgin "Keane" Kolev

Just 162 gls left to score and our next brute is ready to crack bones of all shapes and sizes. It's another debut nation amateur and this time of Bulgaria 🇧🇬 the 7th unique nation in our growing list. A list that's going to include two more unique nations in our next two updates. 

BG: THE Irish Keane? 

Kolev: Yes, THE one and only.

BG: Powerful, dominant, consistent, tireless, highly competitive, motivated, great determination, mobility, physicality, work-rate, composed, hard-tackling, aggressive, confrontational yet intelligent ball-winning midfielder. He's the greatest. 

Kolev: I meant Robbie. 

BG: These regens know JACK about football. 

He's a Defensive Midfielder and tbh looks very decent for an amateur DM. 4 greens and 3 almost greens is amazing. But truth is getting goals out of this boy is going to prove a serious challenge.

Penalties needed for goals. It's something we're relying on atm. I'll take the ugliest goals at this point. 

Playing well against strong opponents. And a clean brace Vs Liverpool. "Keane" is going to be the least prolific of all amateurs, for obvious reasons, but he's by no means the worst of the lot. 

A loss on the night but a win on aggregate. Kolev stepped forward with a goal while the rest of the team disappointed. Well done. 

No matter how many finals I've played or won. Getting the opening goal in the biggest club game on Earth is something special. Some things never change. 

The lowest tally of all amateurs but it's also the very first non-ST so can't say I'm surprised. A DM playing as a striker up front is never going to break records. Was tough on the eyes seeing that red square up front on the tactics screen. So I'm very happy "Keane" got over 10 gls, which was the minimum I was targeting. 12 will do just fine. Only 150 to go..

Amateurs from France 🇫🇷 and Greece 🇬🇷

We've now used amateurs from 9! different nations, incl. Bulgaria, Denmark, Holland, Portugal, Scotland, Ukraine and Wales. Last time we had to use a DM up front to record goals and add Bulgaria to the list. This time we're going one step further. We're using a GK as a Striker for the France addition 👍

Club names don't come much better than that. A nice addition which will cost me in the form of having to score with a Goalkeeper. The addition is worth the challenge tho. I'm going to try to have this dude score at least 10 gls in half a season. His Strength makes him, potentially, a decent Target Man. Only time will tell.

Regen Amateur: Dany Evora

Just 150 gls left to score to wrap this challenge up, but our next guy is a Goalkeeper. How many goals can we score with a 2nd successive non-Striker? Keep expectations low. Good news, it's another first amateur of a new nation, France 🇫🇷 our 8th unique nation in our growing list.

BG: No nickname? 

Dany:  I'm a Goalkeeper. 

BG: And? 

Dany: In the amateurs, GKs aren't given nicknames. 

BG: One, you're in the pro's now. Two, bin those gloves - you're my new Striker. 

Dany: Say what!!?

BG: Trust me, I would love nothing more than to wake up from this nightmare. 

Dany: So you're right, I do need a nickname. 

BG: Score 10 goals and we'll talk nicknames.

This is our goal-scorer for the coming 5-6 months. It's a GK, so what attributes can we look at to determine he can find the back of the net. Aerial? Strength? Pace? You tell me.

Goals aren't recorded on a GK's history page so we gotta go Player Stats. Dany ends his run on 3 gls in the Taça da Liga. Decent.

In Taça de Portugal he ends his Cup run on 3 as well. That's 6 goals already. Our previous non-ST "Keane" got 12 but he was at least an outfield player - a DM. So I'm hoping maybe 10 today.

In the Liga NOS he barely, just barely, makes the list. He's alll the way at rock bottom in 50th position with again 3 gls. Nothing to be ashamed of for a player of his (non)skills. That brings him on 9 goals.

And goal number 10 dropped during a CL loss vs Madrid in the very first minute. He scored the opener, we ended up losing, but topped the group eventually. So it's 10 gls for our GK. Perfect! 

Of course, not a lot to see here - as gls aren't part of GKs' recorded stats - but it does give an indication of what his ratio is, 28 games, 10 gls, 7 asts, no complaints here. And proof that we are in fact dealing with another amateur player. Unsurprisingly we've hit a new record low "beating" the previous lad by 2 gls. It's all about getting a diverse amateur list in the spoiler below tho, so this "Frenchie" has been a very welcome addition. And we're only 140 gls from the finishline now. 

Our next lad from Greece who IS a Striker will try to bite off a significant larger chunk of that remaining number..

Just 140 gls away from the 1000 and our next guy is a Striker, finally. After playing a DM and a GK up top, we're expected to score a decent amount of gls with another first amateur of a new nation, Greece 🇬🇷 9th unique nation in our growing list..

BG: The Knife?

BG: Your ferocious speed enables you to cut in front of opponents. 

Dimitris: Pace 10

BG: Ah f*king slow. Well, you unpredictably cut inside from the wing. 

Dimitris: I'm no Inside Forward. 

BG: Useless bugger. You're a top level Tackler cutting players in half. 

Dimitris: Tackling 9. Get real! 

BG: God's sake, what are you then? 

Dimitris: When I power the ball it cuts thru the air into the goal and cuts right thru the net. 

BG: 😍

One of the better amateurs we've seen in this career, no doubt. The greens are nice altho Teamwork isn't necessarily a good thing. Decent Aerial, fine Shooting, delighted with the progress and having an OK man up front makes a massive difference to the team.

7-0 and our guy produced a brace. We see much better performances and results throughout. Still, the large number of assists is most likely down to his unselfishness. 

8-0 and once again more assists than goals. From Target Man to Advanced Forward to Poacher in the past months, but our guy kept assisting more than we'd like to see. 

9-0 and unfortunately only one for "The Knife". Always disappointing when there's so many goals for the team and the main man gets just the one. It's been hard to pinpoint the best player role for this dude as there didn't seem to be a great difference.

He ended up doing well (AvR 7.94) and along with several other Porto players he made up most of the Team of the Year 2036-37. 

We end up with a fine number of 33 gls, but the large amount of assists (16) is perhaps a stat that shows we could've collected more gls had we put all the players in the right places. I feel I missed a handful of gls and with better preparation (as in opting for a lone striker formation instead of my usual 3 forwards - which basically played right into his Teamwork attr) I think we should've pushed closer to 40.

Good news, "The Knife" brings us a big step closer to the chequered flag with now 107 gls left for maybe another 3-5 amateurs.

Regen Amateur: "Oddball" Osian Brayley

107 gls to score in this career and this time I've gone with a player from a club I've been wanting to add to the list forever. Reason - just love the name 🙂 so I better hurry up before we reach our goal. It's a Welsh club.

Any guesses why I picked this lad? Thought so, he looks nothing like an amateur (cost: €2.5K). This is him at the end of his spell so he looks very good already and still with more room for improvement at his new club, wherever that may be. Three stars and some really fine numbers for a supposedly "bottom of the pile" player. 

From Welshlands in JD Cymru South division. Taffs Well a.k.a The Well Of @Taff. Gotta love some of those club names. Also, brave choice for an away kit. If I ever decide to bring an amateur club to the top this may be the one. 

His attribute numbers don't lie. He's been a really decent menace up front and FCP in red felt every inch of it. A hattrick from the "Oddball" in blue. 

There's our blue star again breaking the orange wall with another hattrick. Not sure what this guy was doing all that time in the amateur division. He's definitely got game and deserves a shot in a higher division. 

A double penalty (still gotta score 'em) for his third hattrick. I'm really enjoying playing a proper forward up front again. Yes, because my previous players were shit. And another yes, because looking at my current shortlist I noticed I've got a GK coming on next 😂 from a 10th unique nation. 

Nice chunk of games to our boy led to a good return. A tally of 31 is to be cherished in these dire times. As mentioned moments ago, I've had non-STs not long ago and there's one awaiting next, so having players score 30+ gls in half season is a rarity these days. So for now let's enjoy the moment and add "Oddball's" goals to our career total, which brings us well over 900 goals.
