Career Rossoneri Toffees - A Goaltopia Attempt - The End

Richalison doesn't seem to get more traction, he did improve a little but... I remember @hhooosay something about having trouble with him not delivering.

Hopefully season 3 is just a hickup and everything will get better from now!

Great second season Ian, shame about the 3rd but I feel like there’s always that one season, so hopefully push on again now in the 4th 😁

Great season 2 Ian. Very unlucky with the season 3. I really wonder whether you play Maldini or Richarlison as the starter? Maldini seems to be getting better contributions but I remembered you said that he’s playing as a substitute.

Great going Ian. All seasons are not equal so nothing to worry though, you are getting plenty of goals from the right people.

Some seasons are more equal than others, you mean.

And yeah bench Rich, he's not going to get any better from here out. Give Maldini the starts and he'll probably be better.

Thanks George, yeah it looks like 20-30 will be the norm for Richarlison during his peak years in this system. He seems decent but he’s certainly not fantastic.

Ching up and i'm sure s4 will be much better. 👍

Thank you Woody, hopefully season four will be better. Well I know if it was or wasn’t as I’ve played it but I won’t give anything away until I post the update later.

Thank you Kane, the goals do seem to go to the right people so guess it’s just a matter of hoping there’s enough team goals.

Thanks Danish, I have been debating who to favour out of the two. I’ve played season four already so can’t say much more on it until I post that update but it’s something I was thinking about after finishing season three.

The only concern I have with favouring Maldini is that that would probably mean I’d have to play him in the T position which would then mean Leão would have to go up top. Leão is probably the best out of the four and the T position is probably the best position in this system so that’s the conundrum.

Thank you Rob, I’m determined to catch up on this so the season four update will come later on today.

Season 4

This turned out to be a bit of a frustrating season in truth so I’ll just crack on.

Transfers

I wanted to lower the age of the squad a bit as there were a few players nearing 30 and I didn’t want to get caught out with too many older players. Davies came in to replace Goosens on the left and I brought in Jude Bellingham to play either in the centre of midfield or out wide as a replacement for Hateboer who I think eventually left in January. I’ve wanted to sign Valverde for a few years but could never manage to get it done so it was nice to finally sign him this year and that’s more or less it apart from a few free transfers to cover us in a few positions.

Team Performances

The best place to start here is with the injury crisis we suffered towards the end of January. We had three of the four challengers out for a few weeks at the same time as well as a good few other key players so it turned out to be a bit of a slog.

We ended up winning everything again and we were much more dominant in the league this year in terms of results but not so much in terms of goalscoring as we scored much less goals than last season. The cup finals were all fairly comfortable and Leão ended the season in fine style with a nice hat trick against PSG to send us to Champions League glory in the final.

Rossoneri Toffees

Our challengers suffered much more this season with injuries and ended up playing in much less games than previous seasons so it probably won’t come as much of a shock to learn that they didn’t produce an abundance of goals. Here are most of the injuries and it’s generally shorter injuries rather than longer ones but I’m not sure which I prefer to be honest.

Even before the injury troubles properly began it never felt like we’d beat the season two return but the next best return of 119 seemed very doable. Couldn’t manage it in the end as between the four players they could only manage 108 goals but as I said above I can’t be too harsh on them or myself as they did only play in a total of 191 games which is 25 less than they managed last year. Richarlison managed his usual kind of return with 24 goals, DCL put up a fairly poor (for him) return of 31, Maldini wasn’t great either with just 15 but Leão did very well with 38 considering his injury troubles.

Final Thoughts

A bit of a frustrating season with the injuries and what not and I was very unimpressed the other day when I completed the season but once I properly looked at the numbers I realised it wasn’t actually quite so bad. We move on now and hope for better next year. I’ve got a few signings earmarked so hopefully they’ll kick us on.

Thank you for reading.

Ohh them injuries are very frustrating there Ian, would have easily had your best season without them injuries.

Great deal for Davies, 9k plus Merino is brilliant. Valverde is very good as well. Hopefully no injuries next season so you can get a great total.

Thanks Richard, they were indeed and it was just as much the injuries throughout the rest of the squad at the same time that annoyed me. I even had a quick look to see if I’d missed some of my physios retiring but no they were still there 😂

I am getting that bug where some of my staffs badges just drop from gold to silver and I do wish they could sort that out.

Great score considering injuries. You got a bit of an arse kicking there. The Goose and the Hat didn’t last long!

Thanks Rob, yeah the FMM gods had it in for me that’s for sure 😂

Yeah just two seasons for those two. I think they were arriving at their late twenties so i had a look to see if I could bring in similar quality youngsters and Davies was perfect as a replacement for The Goose and Jude seemed like a good option as he can play both sides and in the middle too. Out of the two wide Atalanta boys I do slightly prefer The Goose but both are brilliant. I’m very happy with all of the options I’ve had in the wide areas on this save and now we have Hernandez and Davies for the left and Saelemaekers and Bellingham for the right plus Grealish for either side if needed. They’re all as good as each other and to a degree that I don’t think I’ve ever had as usually I have a clear first and second choice player for most positions.

Season 5

After last season's injury ravished campaign I went into this season with no idea how things would go. I was hoping that with the injuries we suffered last year, perhaps that would mean we would have a much cleaner season this time out but things don’t always work out that way. The only thing I forgot to mention last time that was a real plus was getting DCL, Richarlison and Leão to sign new five year deals. DCL was easy going and we had no trouble there but Richarlison had wanted a whopping £425k a week and for the whole of season three I was genuinely thinking that he would never budge and I knew he’d have to as we would never pay that for him. Luckily at the beginning of season four with a full budget available I was able to get him to sign for £350k a week and a hefty sign on fee. Leão was happy to sign for £140k a week which given his quality I found rather surprising but there you go.

Transfers

Like last year, reducing the average age of the squad was the name of the game as I replaced a few older players with younger versions. Being able to use Can as an exchange option for de Ligt was very pleasing as it should also weaken Juve as Can will surely decline soon and I get their best defender. I used Romagnolli as part exchange in the deal to sign de Jong from Barca and went big on Svanberg from Brest who seems like a nice playmaker. The rest were just back up players for our challengers and it seemed like we had a decent window as I also had no trouble getting rid of Holding who I only brought in for cover last season so kind of thought I might get stuck with him.

Team Performances

No such major injury problems this year but we did finally lose a cup final as Juve beat us in the Champions League final on penalties after we played out a 4-4 thriller. I kind of just went for goals at one point as I knew we’d already qualified for the CWC so the defeat wasn’t so bad as I think three of the four goals went to the challengers. I say ‘think’ as I don’t know for sure as we’ve got that bug again where the scorers are all mixed up. The last time I had that was on the previous CWC year so I definitely think it’s related to seasons where you play more games. I’ve included the fixtures below and the Juve final as an example of what I’m talking about. It’s not every game that’s messed up but a good few. In that Juve game and a few others it’s clearly got the stats mixed up too and highly likely they’ve just ended up switched over.

Rossoneri Toffees

A much better season this year as it was only Richarlison who suffered any injuries, suffering a two week one and a two month one. It made sure that Maldini would play more minutes and he ended up having his best season yet with 27 goals in 54 games. Richarlison dropped off to 17 goals, DCL had one of his better years with 45 goals in 55 games and Leão produced a nice 53 goals in 57 games to give us a season total 142.

It was the CWC year just like season two so whether we can get up to these numbers again remains to be seen but we’re happy enough. I’m not really getting the goals flowing in Italy with very few high scoring games but we have been getting them in the early matches in the CWC including this one below. I never bothered looking at the player quality of the opposition but I’m guessing it wouldn’t be great as even after Grealish got himself sent off, we still went on to somewhat dominate and I never even rejigged the system.

Final Thoughts

A very nice season and it was pleasing to get a return similar to season two. We couldn’t quite match the return but I felt we were stronger this year and were definitely more dominant and comfortable in terms of defence. I tweaked the set pieces a couple of seasons ago as I hadn’t done much with them and whilst it hasn’t improved anything in terms of scoring, it certainly has in defence. At least it feels like it has.

We go on now as we’ve hopefully still got a few more years left.

Thank you for reading.

Giving Richarlison 350k a week is the kind of financial management that got Milan into their title drought to begin with!

Seriously though, good luck going forward, the injuries have been very unlucky so far.

Thank you Hhooo, yeah it’s a bit over the top for him. I mean he’s a good player and that but he’s actually our highest earner with the next highest coming in at £300k so not really worth that. Hopefully our major injury troubles are behind us now.

Season 6

It’s been awhile since I last posted an update for this as I’ve been doing the VPL and attempting a few of the Vibe Badges of Honour challenges so here I am with the next update which is season six. I haven’t gone any further in playing than season six so this will catch us right up.

Transfers

Not a great deal of business done really as the squad seemed in a good place so I just replaced a few ageing players with younger versions. Rodri went to Chelsea with Havertz coming the other way, Grealish was replaced with the younger Moriba and we went fairly big on a new rotation centre back in Gvardiol. I had never heard of the centre back but he’s not actually a regen and I think he’s currently a youngster playing for Dinamo on loan from Leipzig. He looks decent and could be a good option from the start of the game to develop. Moriba is a funny one with me as I find him a bit hit or miss but he’s valued so highly on this save and once I realised I could more or less straight swap him for Grealish, I just felt it was the best option.

Team Results

The team had a successful season with no hiccups. We had the latter stages of the CWC to contend with right after moving over to the new season and the lack of planned business meant that that wasn’t much of a hindrance. We beat Juve in the semi and PSG in the final and even though Richarlison and DCL suffered medium length injuries, it didn’t matter much as there was ages to go before the main season started so they were back in time for the kick off. The other trophies were won and we didn’t have any iffy moments so not much more to say really.

Rossoneri Toffees

There were a few decent games for the challengers but these two were undoubtedly the best with a big league win over Sampdoria and massive win over Real in the Champions League.

Not really directly related to the foursome but we finally managed to get the club’s facilities maxed out. I’ve always found this tough going in Italy, it just seems like you get knocked back on the requests here more often than in other countries but I’m probably just imagining it in truth.

There were injuries other than the two in the CWC final but I’ll not post the shots on this occasion as it hasn’t ended up hindering the challengers and you can probably get an idea of what we’re looking at from the amount of games the challengers played anyway.

DCL had a very nice season for him with 48 goals in 51 games, Leão wasn’t far behind with 47 in 55, Maldini chipped in with 29 in 53 and Richarlison produced 23 goals in 53 games to give us a total of 147 goals for the season and easily our best yet based on the game time. All four are now in what I’d call their peak years and it showed this season as even when one was out injured, there just wasn’t any real drop off. DCL and Richarlison are coming up to 30 so we’ll see what happens with them but the other two have a good few years left in their prime so we’ll just keep going until we lose one of the four which will hopefully not be for a few years yet. Three of them only have another two years left on their deals so that could be the end but with any luck we’ll be able to sign them up to longer deals and I’ll be trying as soon as we move over to the new season.

Final Thoughts

Things are going steady now for the boys and I’m totally up to date with my posting. I have played the game a good bit since I last played this and there’s a few things in my mind that I think could help us improve things here. I’ll probably just try a few things as I’m going and hope for the best so we’ll just have to see how it goes. In terms of the squad, we’ve got Kessié leaving as his contract is up but he was still very much one of the main men in midfield this season. I feel it’s time to let him go but we have a job on our hands in replacing him; we have options at the club who could move to his position but then we’d need replacements for the moving player so we’ll have to look at things and try and get it right.

Thank you for reading.

Lads look fantastic mate and the goals are steady. Maldini had a super s6.

I've never done a career in Italy, not sure why so the training upgrades scenario is a funny one.

Well done Ian. I will vouch for Gvardial. I had him paired with Nianzou for a fair bit of my Goaltopia. Excellent player.

Thank you Rob, it was the first I’d heard of him and I haven’t really noticed Nianzou either so I’ll look out for him.

Thanks Woody, yes Maldini is doing well and he’s just coming of age so with the two Everton guys getting older hopefully he’ll be able to shine a bit more.

I do like Italy, it feels like it’s similar to Spain when it comes to strength. I have had the board rejecting requests for years with a few teams there though so probably intentional  as I do feel like it’d maybe be like that in Italy.

The boards of different clubs might have different priorities or hidden stats of some sort. Getting upgrades or affiliates in Korea was a nightmare, but in Atalanta it was very easy, the board gave me the last two training upgrades in the first half of the first season.

Gvardiol has always been on my radar in a new save, but he's usually too expensive and I often opt for Bornauw instead. Not as good on the ball but he's very good physically and mentally.

It gives me a perverse pleasure to see Richarlison lagging behind as I had predicted, but I'm glad the others are doing well!
