Tactics A bright future (3-4-1-2)

Hi guys! 

I am very late this year with my first tactic. Due to a lot of work I did not had the chance to create one myself. But here it is! My first FMM23 tactic. My goal was to finish as high as possible with an underdog and really build a tactic that suits the squad. 

It was a exciting battle till the last match day. Unfortunately, Manchester City won the last game 4-3 against Spurs (see screenshot) after trailing 0-3!! I was angry for a while... But I still think my season was pretty successful. Finishing second with Brighton is not to bad I think.

I did make the necessary transfers at the start of the season. I have sold all unnecessary players and below you can see which players I bought. (No sugar daddy!) 

Formation 3-4-1-2:

I wanted an offensive playing style, but with a strong defense. My choice for 3 defenders was therefore quickly made. I did want to have a footballing defender in the center to support midfield. The Libero role best suited what I had in mind. Alvarez was the best player I could buy for this position. 

The strength of this tactic lies in the midfield. The box to box midfielder and roaming playmaker are both strong defensively and offensively. On the flanks I opted for defensive wingers. I have noticed that this role puts a lot of pressure on the opponent. They conquer a lot of balls along the line and put high pressure. 

The two strikers are a deep lying forward and a advanced forward. The deep lying holds on to the ball and is always searching for creative solutions. A real playmaker. Don't expect many goals from this striker. The advanced forward role speaks for itself. He creates chances for the players around him but also acts as a poacher. Behind the 2 strikers is a shadow striker. This player scores the most goals and benefits from the front 2 and creativity from midfield. 

Shape: The team mentality is balanced. But feel free to be flexible if the match needs it! If you have to score, don't leave it on balanced, but intervene. Because the width is set to narrow, the players can combine short and fast. I chose disciplined because I notice that players simply stick to their role better. When the team is better I might change this to balanced. 

Defence: High pressure is one of the strengths of this tactic. I started with offside kick on, but during the gameplay I saw that this didn't always work well. It works better with this formation if the players follow the instructions. Use time wasting with a small lead in the final phase!! 

Attack: Not too many instructions. I don't want to limit the wing players in particular.

Yeah I like this formation too. The only thing I want is my advanced forward scoring more goals.

@Van The Man - I’ve always loved the 3142 and 3412 variants - but could never get the attacking roles right in a 3412 like yours. I’d never have thought to use a AF, DLF + SS combination. The final selling point was your use of a Libero ❤️ 

Sone questions for you: 🙂 

• SS - why do you think your SS was your top scorer?
• Libero - how effective was he / did the role work as you intended?
• Width - with narrow width, did you notice lots of long opposition passes down your flanks? Would you consider ‘wide’ width to counter this?
• Big Games - you worst results were all against the best teams and/or away from home. Any suggestions / solutions which you think could work?

Thank you! I'm honored that you want to test my tactic! Been reading your thread for a while, great idea! I am very curious about the results!

To answer your questions:

- SS: I think simply because he takes advantage of the 2 strikers who can create chances.

- Libero: Yes he did what I wanted! I just don't know if he does better than, say, a deep playmaker. But I wanted a extra defender. Provides a good connection between defense and midfield. In terms of rating, often around 7.

- Width: I did noticed that when I had the offside trap on! Often misjudging by my defense led to dangerous long balls from the opposition. It is not the case that there is a lot of space along the sides due to narrow width. The defensive wingers press well and are usually rated 7-8. They do take a lot of yellow cards..

- Big games: I think this is mainly due to the difference in quality. Maybe these games I should have let the defensive wingers play as backs and more on the counter.

I have WM for mine at the moment.

 

The BBM and RP are the other way around in my setup. I have a left footer as the BBM and a right footer as the RP. Seems to be better than when they are on right as right footer etc.

No libero on mine, and the strikers are both PF. I have work into box set and GK distribution on mixed. Everything else is the same as you have I think.

This tactic is sooo good! Tried this with my “italian” Fiorentina (i’m in third season and i’m trying to make a full italian squad) and won the treble with some big wins.

This is the squad:

Backup are all italian (except for Diveev): Gabbia, Terracciano, Castrovilli, Fabbian, Ruggeri, Pessina, Colombo and Piccoli.

Gnonto: 22 goals, 10 assist in 37 games

Scamacca: 31 goals, 7 assist in 51 games

Zaniolo: 22 goals, 15 assist in 46 games

Colombo: 21 goals, 3 assist in 48 games

Piccoli: 10 goals, 5 assist in 49 games

Pessina: 12 goals, 4 assist in 44 games

Results:

Won league after only 32 games and finished it with 99 points! Difference between goals scored and conceded was impressive. I think we could do more points because in some games we were so unlucky and we deserved more. In our stadium we are unbeatable, crazy stats!

Here are the games we lost or draws:

In Coppa Italia no problem against Juventus in the final, 6-2 without any discussion.

The grand final is the Champions League. Our start was so bad, lost 3-0 against Benfica and 2-1 against Chelsea, draws against Liverpool and Atletico Madrid, so we had to battle Ajax in the knockout. No problem, 3-0 at home and go next, Manchester City. 
Crazy game in Firenze, crazy performance by the team. We won even in England with a little bit of luck, 0-1 with big free kick by Miretti.

Then we had the rematch against Benfica. Lost 2-1 in Portugal but at home we won at the penalties.

Semifinal is another rematch against Atletico Madrid. Won in Spain with a big performance and managed the result at home.

The final was a very fought game against Man United, but we are european champions thanks to the Carnesecchi and the penalties again.

Interesting! I think the reason why it works better in your tactic with the right footer RP on the left and left footer BBM on the right in is because you play with wide mide midfielders. They will pass a lot to these players. With my tactic its the other way around. The defensive wingers will capture the ball and play to the center. My BBM and RP are more focused to go forward instead of playing the ball wide. 

Why do you play with 2 pressing forwards?

Why do you play with 2 pressing forwards? 

Because the high line is pointless if you aren't pressing the opposition back line.

Two PF strikers increases the chances of it being effective.

Great tactic really well done mate, quite a lot of my dropped points were because I was testing tweaks and things which cost me results. 

I agree with everyone else that WM's are probably the way to go, DW's did work but I think the WM's are better at both ends, got a load of assists through crosses. Definitely use PF's to make use of that high defensive line. I've used a BPD instead of a liberal, against big teams an L leaves a lot of room for them to run into, so a BPD still passes out from the back but doesn't abandon the defenses too much. I also changed the mentality to either control or attacking in some games as I felt like we just weren't creating enough

We really slowed down towards the end, silly mistakes, more tweaks and injuries all contributed to this

Little update with my Fiorentina. After winning with all italian players i decided to improve the squad; so i sold Scamacca and bought Silva from Benfica and Hojlund from Atalanta.

Results speaks for themselves!

Won everything in Italy and Europe, crazy run in Serie A with 38 wins (first time this year for me), won italian Supercup, european Supercup (forgot the screen) and Champions against Atletico Madrid in the final with a penalty saved by Carnesecchi in the 90th minute.

Won Serie A after just 29 games, wow 🤩

Ps: i’m testing this even with a smaller team, Malaga, in second spain league. I’ll update u!

Nice mate! Yeah i think its a matter what suits the squad. I tried playing with DM's a couple of games but didnt work as well as DW's. Probably my players are used to the role. And yes you should always change to attacking or even overload when you need to score.

Thanks but don't know if it's a gamebreaker. Tested better tactics with more goals and wins but it certainly is a great tactic, even for smaller teams. 😁

I change front 2 PF like @Schwantz34 for pressing and change to attacking. Main actor for this tactic is SS must be good player . Last DW to WM

Hi mates

I am using a 3412  formation in my spur save, too. But some different of roles and instructions. 

I use T at amc, who will cover more area in attacking. And to balance the middle field, I set one CM who can link defenders and attackers. I put L in side. He will move  in front of my S to join the pass and closedown. 

I found trun on defense line high and closedown all over will help my team to win the possessions, so I will do when my team can not control the game. 

And more, formation(3412) is a good shape to press opposite team.

Hi mates

I tried to improve my tactics 3412 in last post in next season of my spur save. I tweaked some roles and instructions like below.

If there is no space in box I will trun two BBM to CM, to make them have more space to get the ball and pass more patiently. 

This helped me to get more goals and points. But I like the previous one which movement in highlights is more nice!

That is a hugely impressive season there, well done!

Was that the same version as the original post, or did you change anything?

I see a couple of others have changed the striker roles and DW roles.
