Save Update

A gave some very unsubtle hints over the last few days that I would do this and now it is official. I will be trying to get my son Simon Fox to complete the 1Kc over the final 15 seasons that I have left in this save. You can follow his adventure in the link below. That doesn't mean the teutonic treble is over far from it. I will continue to try and get those final times tick off for Goretzka, more assists for Amiri and a few more goals from Arp until they all retire.

What it does mean is that I am very unlikley to get Arp to 1.5k goals in this save as he will play a more back up role to Foxy Jr but as he is still young he should get plenty of game time still and add to his goals over the next couple of seasons. He has 3 seasons left on his contract and then he plans to retire so I hope I can keep him happy at the club and then let him retire at the end of this current deal with a good 1Kc total for the leaderboard.

Updates for the three teutonic challenges will continue in this thread up until the last of the three retire whilst I have started a new career thread for the Son 1Kc so that both Foxy Jr and my Germans can get the limelight that hopefully they deserve.

Welcome back. Despite starting my new 1kc in this save with my son there is still a little life left in these challenges yet or at least I hope there is.

Goretzka 1Kc

It had been threatening for the last couple of seasons but it finally happened and we had a zero times season. So much luck is involved in this challenge and although more goals increases the chances of hitting the right time we only need 4 more so its also going to be tough with an ageing Leon.

He is still very capable of hitting the back of the net as 24 goals in 45 games shows but fitness and injuries are becoming an issue now meaning he missed 20 games in total this season. His 2 longest injuries were only 3 weekers but it soon adds up as games come thick and fast in Spain and he had a few smaller knocks as well coupled with games when he simply wasn’t fit enough to risk playing.

He had planned to retire at the end of the season but I used my powers of persuasion to get him to reconsider and then sign a new 1 year contract that will keep him playing until the age of 39 and gives another season to perhaps get closer to the target. His physicals are shot but he still looks good in the rest of his game so maybe he can stay fit and keep scoring.

Arp 1Kc

My goal focus has moved to my son now and you can see how he did this season here.

 

Arp still had a bit of game time although the 60 games it says he played he played is very deceptive as that was probably actually 15 to 20 starts and the rest cameo’s at the end of the game, it’s annoying that the game records any time on the pitch as an appearance and doesn’t put in brackets sub apperances. The starts came in games when Foxy Jr was either injured or not fit enough to risk and most of them were mid-week Champions League games. He managed to get 37 goals this year which added nicely to his total taking him up to 1155 career goals. I don’t really have an aim for Arp now in terms of a total simply because the less he scores and the more Foxy Jr scores the better but he has 2 seasons left on his contract before he retires (I doubt I will ask him to reconsider) so maybe he could get to 1200.

Amiri vs Havertz Assists Challenge

At the end of last season Havertz contract expired and he was refusing to resign eventually signing for Chelsea instead. To be honest I’m not that worried as he had lost his pace and although he still played well I felt I could bring in better players so I decided not to resign him as I did with Amiri, this meant Havertz finished his career for us on 203 assists. He never hit the heights that Amiri did and I don’t think he would have done as well as Amiri if I had given hi corners as in the first season and a half they each took one side of corners and it was only when it became obvious that Amiri was my best shot at a good total that I put him on both sides. I need to check with @danovic78 whether more than 1 player from a single career can go on the assists leaderboard but it would be nice if he could even if it will be at the bottom and if I can have multiple entries from this career on the assists leaderboard I might ask for Goretzka to go on as well as he has more assists than Kai got already.

Amiri is still going strong although he can’t last a full 90 minutes any more or at least not if I want him to play the next game also after last seasons huge total of 23 goals he was down to only 7 this year. The total that matters though is that he managed 34 assists this season which was down a little from last year but he made 4 less appearances than last year so not bad at all from him. He has 2 years left on his contract so I have him at least until he is 38 so I hope that he can break the 600 career assists mark which is well beyond what I ever expected from him.

I was a busy boy this year in the transfer market as I staged a rebuild with some younger players coming in that I hope will help Foxy Jr on his way to a 1k. We saw a new GK Adria Alarcon join as well as 2 new LW’s Noah Kahlert and Simone Zampano to take the place of Kai.

We lost 3 club legends this year though as Upamecano and Donnarumma both moved on to Man Utd and Verona respectively as well as Havertz leaving.

The lads ages are going up and the numbers they are pulling are going down but we are still grinding along adding goals and assists on to Arp’s and Amiri’s totals and then there is the GaM…

Goretzka GaM

Last season Leon ticked off zero times meaning he still had 4 more to complete and I didn’t go into this season with massive hopes either. He turned 39 this year so he is playing on borrowed time and that was emphasised when he picked up a 2 month injury this year.

I remembered that I had been trying to train him as a striker so I thought I would check in with how he is getting on and I'm pleased to report that after 163 months or 13.33 years of position training he is still no closer to being a striker😂

This challenge has a huge amount of luck linked to it of course but it stands to reason that the more goals a player scores the more likely he is to tick off times. His chances weren’t helped by the fact Leon had his worst goal scoring season in the last 9 years with 14 goals which nearly all came from set pieces which isn’t a big surprise considering his physicals mean he doesn’t get around the pitch like he used to and can’t play as often either.

So it was a massive surprise that he ticked 2 times off this season😀, even better he completed all the 1^st half times meaning he only needs to play 45 minutes each game😀 even better again is that he reconsidered his retirement for another season and he will play until he is at least 40😀

I think this really will be the final season and how well he can do when his physicals are shocking now remains to be seen but at least he is still in the hunt to complete this.

Arp 1Kc

Arp has become something of a super sub now in this save with all except 6 of his appearances coming from the bench as Foxy Jr chases a 1K himself.

 

He got himself 25 goals and is now 20 away from 1200 for his career which will be a decent enough total now that I am focused on Foxy Jr. His physicals have dropped a fair bit this season especially his pace although he is still strong and all his mental and technical attributes are holding up well.

Amiri Assists Challenge

 Amiri is 37 now and although he has suffered a drop in his physicals, which is to be expected, he still looks very good. I still play him wide right as a winger but that may need to change to AP now his pace is starting to drop quickly. He played less games this year than last year and certainly played less minutes has I normally have to bring him off after 60-70 minutes but the 24 assists he got was a good total in the circumstances and meant he was my top assister for the 17^th season in a row. He had a couple of knocks but no major injuries with most of the games he missed being because he wasn’t fit enough to play and I would rather have him 95-100% fit for less games than play him when he is tired and will likely not play as well anyway. He has 1 year left on his contract but at the moment he isn’t saying he will retire at the end of it so I might see if I can get another year or two out of him after next season. He is now 25 assists away from 600 for the career and that is the final target I am setting him and once he gets to that total or breaks it I will let him retire when he wants.

More squad rebuilding this season as I look to build the squad that will hopefully last the majority of the 13 seasons that I have (hopefully) left in this save. With that in mind all the players I signed were late teens/ early 20’s but whether they will all last at the club for the next 13 seasons who knows.

No clean sweep this year as we lost the European Super Cup to Espanyol on penalties in the first game of the season but very few problems in any other competitions although PSG made us work hard in the Champions League final.

We move on to season 18 then with Arp and Amiri needing 20 goals and 25 assists respectively to reach the final goals that I have set them but much more importantly Goretzka only needs 2 more times and he will have completed the GaM! The odds are massively against it happening but to still be in with a shout at this stage is amazing.

I'm pretty confident he will get at least on more time ticked off, because if he is going to fail it will just be by 1 for sure. It will either be that or last minute success! The game's like that! 

Anyway, superb going, really really awesome what you have achieved here, whether Leon gets the GAM or not.

I expected this season to be the last one for Leon and possibly Amiri as well although Arp still has another year on his contract and being a bit younger than the other two means he may have a couple more seasons left.

I still had targets I wanted to meet on all three challenges this season with the huge matter of if Goretzka could get the final two times he needed for the GaM but also Arp needs 20 goals to hit 1200 career goals and Amiri needs 25 assists to have 600.

Goretzka GaM

It’s fair to say that Leon had a dreadful season this year, he did turn 40 in February and spent a long time out injured so there are mitigating circumstances.

He had two separate injuries which totalled 5 months out and 42 matches missed.

He played in 23 games in total with every appearance coming as a 2^nd half substitute as he has no need to play in the 1^st half anymore. He never made any assists all season which is a shame as he has 247 for his career so far and is only a few away from not being bottom of the assists challenge leaderboard. It’s goals that really matter though and he only scored twice all season with both goals coming in our final league game of the season BUT amazingly one of those goals came in the 77^th minute which was one of the times we needed!!!

This meant that he went into the Champions League final with the chance to complete the GaM if he could score in the 56^th minute. Unfortunately he was unable to score in that game and ended the season with one time left to get just as @scratch99 predicated. I never expected him to reconsider his retirement after the injuries and lack of any form and I probably wouldn’t have even asked if he hadn’t got that goal in the Lugo game but with only one time left to get I had to ask didn’t I.

So we go again for one last season as whatever happens this year I will be letting him retire at the end of this season.

One season, one time can he do it?

Arp 1Kc

Although Arp only needs 20 goals to hit 1.2k I hoped that he wouldn’t play to many games this year except as a sub when I need to give Foxy Jr a rest. In the end he played 55 times with most of them coming as a sub towards the end of games although he did make a few starts and you can find out why here.

 

He knocked in 24 goals in total with a about half of them coming from the bench and considering his physical attributes are declining quickly that wasn’t a bad effort from the lad and it also means he has 1204 career goals. He has one year left on his contract but if he doesn’t want to retire I will offer him a longer contract just to try and keep him at the club. I may need to consider another back up striker for Foxy Jr soon but I think Arp has at least one more season as our number 2 although I hope Arp isn’t needed too often.

Amiri Assists Challenge

Amiri had another good season for us and in fact as he is 38 I would say better than good. He got 20 assists from 55 appearances which is pretty good considering he usually gets subbed around 60-70 minutes nowadays.

 He is now 5 short of 600 assists but it looks like he may not get them.

As happened 4 seasons ago he wouldn’t sign a new contract and left once he was a free agent and despite my best efforts he wouldn’t resign and eventually went to Leicester.

No problem I thought as I will just resign him like I did when he joined AC Milan. I had a £20m fee accepted by the Foxes and I offered Amiri the maximum I could but he still won’t sign.

 I’m not going to give up on him just yet but at the moment it looks unlikely that he will resign and get those final 5 assists for me. It may be that I have to wait until January to resign him or it maybe that I will just let him finish his career at Leicester and accept 595 assists as his final score which lets face it isn’t too shabby an effort from him anyway.

If he has played his last game for the club he went out on a high by scoring in the Champions League final and has had an amazing career for me.

Amiri Update

It seems that life in Leicester didn't suit Nadiem as I just went to try another offer for him and he has disappeared so I can only assume he has retired after only a few weeks in Gary Lineker land. He no longer appears in a search for the name Amiri and he is greyed out in my all time XI.

So that is it he finishes on 595 assists for his career. It's a bit of an anti-climax way for his career to end really but at least his last contribution for the club and football in general was a goal in the Champions League final and I'm glad he never played for another team after us.

595 is a great total for the challenge although it would have been lush to have got those final 5 assists but never mind it clearly wasn't to be.
