Help Pick a starting challenge for me

 Share

Recommended Posts

First of all as a newcomer to joining the site, but very much long term stalker of peoples careers which do make great readings. @Nucleus @Rob @Foxy @1759 @Scratch @EvzeyWales (may I also mention you provide a lot of information and help to others so keep it up.) Yes, I know you all very well and you know nothing of me. So I will give you a quick introduction of myself and what I'm looking for as I'm sure you can provide millions of ideas.

For now you can call me Snowles. I come from a Strategic background IRL. To be more precise Race Strategy Engineer and before anyone asks I am not part of Ferrari's shambolic displays. I picked up FMM19 on my Android device as I thought it would be great game to pass by time and put my strategic mindset to work. Now I don't why @Nucleus hasn't shared his tactic after 100's of requests on his 2000 Goal challenge but everyone else there seems to ask for it so why not ask myself. Please can you send me your tactic so I can make one change and claim it as my own. 😃

Basically I have little to no Football Manager experience. In fact the only Football Manager game I actually did play was Championship Manager 3 and 99/00 which I'm sure has changed tremendously since then even on smart phone which is now probably more powerful then my PC was at the time.

So instead of just jumping into this game and picking any old team I was wondering if someone in community could give me a challenge (based on my Football Manager experience preferably) to try and succeed or fail miserably that if I get time might even share as a career on here like many others do.  I'm hoping that my workings with numbers and Strategy will help me even if i know nothing of formations or golden gem players you guys find.

Thanks for all your help in advance helping me choose.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have a fascinating job!

In terms of challenges, deffo go for one of the short challenges on the challenge list. Don’t be scared to experiment and don’t be worried if your score isn’t amazing right away - sometimes things will just click after a few tweaks. Don’t compare yourself to anyone else either - it’ll do your head in!

The only other thing I’d recommend is to play out the challenge before you post it. The worst thing on here is when you commit to something to early and end up hating it.

Good luck!

Welcome 🙂

I would take a look at the challenge index and pick something that interests you. I would probably avoid things like the 1kc straight away and do something quick to get a feel for the game.

The index is here.

Welcome😀

My first challenge was the fabled number 10 challenge which I enjoyed. I echo what Rob said about not worrying about your score and just try to enjoy it.

I played championship manager around the time you mention and I’d say this game is as close as you’re going to get to those games.

I think there’s a few challenges in that section where you get a replacement for say Van Basten and try to replicate his career and those are good ones to try I’d say.

Welcome to the site mate.

There are some cracking challenges to get your teeth into but when you see the one that catches your eye i would boot up the game and test tactics till your blue in the face.

The bread and butter of any challenge is testing till you have a tactic your comfortable will do a job for you.

I wish you the best of luck and we are all here to help if you need it. 👍

The Atletico Madrid Challenge is an easy suggestion. Top side but with title rivals and a sensible challenge if you want to get into the challenge scene.

If you just want a save to get into the game though I'd say go for one the bigger sides or a club you know alot about.

Welcome mate, I’d would concur with the main men who have posted above. The important thing is to pick s challenge that particularly interests you, that way your more likely to stick at it.

Do you have a team that you support? I always find these are my most enjoyable saves. As a Villa fan nothing on this version had pleased me more than these guys coming through my youth team

Also consider the amount of time needed to complete a challenge. The newly posted race to 50 is an interesting one if your looking short term - or the 1k, double trouble, triple threat etc are great 10+ season challenges

Thank you all for the replies and swiftness too. I've taken them all on board. Just to answer a few of the questions you could say I am a fan / follower of Arsenal even after their disappointing performance against Chelsea last night.

@EvzeyWales They are some great kids that turned out for yourself.

@Ashez The Atletico Madrid might be a great shout to start or even a season with Arsenal to get me going.

As some of you have already said Try find a formation and style that works and makes it enjoyable for myself. Well with that in mind Arsenal have had some great tacticians in the past Herbert Chapman, George Graham  and of course the great Arsene Wenger.
I will want some sort of balance so my starting point with be some what from Herbert Chapmans book in the format of WM. From my point of view it has 5 attackers / 5 defenders and makes a great starting point. It just depends where I actually position these players taking into account if i want it completely flat or not.

As you can see with the images i just need to find one which makes a good starting point and go from there. I think I can already rule out the last one due to it being too narrow as such.

Sorry, a bit slow, but welcome! 😄

I always end up doing 1KCs, which are great, but also are a long (and at times boring) journey. They are great at the start while you build your team and get your striker scoring, but there comes a point where each season feels the same. So, maybe ease yourself in with a shorter challenge.

Also, you may need to try a few times before you start getting the success you see others get on here. My first 1KC challenge was a hard slog and I limped over the line after 22 seasons. Next attempt was better, and so on... Although I had some failed attempts in there too. Same thing happened with general (non-challenge) careers. So it's best to have some patience with whatever you decide to do.

I like the idea of seeing you try out Herbert Chapman's format, that would be pretty interesting. @BatiGoal included that in a post about old formations a couple of years ago (he went with the first option you've got there) but I don't think anyone ever played it:

Anyway, best of luck, can't wait to see what you do. 🙂

@Scratch I attempted to recreate the tactics of old with really little success as Arsenal. I didn't want to abandon it completely but due to inconsistent results I had to give up on this avenue and finishing 5th like in real life.

Now this is where I started to put a strategy head on. So time to start again, this time with Atletico Madrid and I started the season by trying to counter the opposition by out numbering the midfield. Win the midfield battle and win the game. This didn't go to well probably because my team are getting confused with unsual formation like it said in my match report.

Now, quickly at the beginning of the season I changed and changed quickly o started putting things together. I like 5 defence and 5 attackers. That therefore is my base. Furthermore I wanted to out number my opposition's midfield. Win that and I have high chance of winning my games. With a transition of 6/4 and 4/6 when attacking / defending. Another thing I also noticed with majority of AI is quite a simple thing. They like Symmetry and it allows them to defend this easily they want just FB / FB or W/W. It keeps them a nice balance throughout.

Building on my base tactic I decided to go with Asymmetrical system and results started changing quickly. Now Man city came in quickly and took Saul so I used that money to buy to playmaker type midfielders. Luis Alberto being the more successful of my two signings. I also found a suprise young striker in the winter transfer window that really took UCL to storm finishing top scorer when only playing knockout stages. Plus Diego Costa seemed to be getting injured a lot.

My first season was quite the success and I will continue this game for a bit because I set a new challenge in my head. I want to nuture the younger generations and therefore any team that come in for my players with reasonable offer will be sold. I'll also be looking for players more suited to my tactic. My aim is to turn my club into making profits rather than a continuous debt. I will post a few screens include ding my final formation I used.

Thanks for reading guys and some criticism and advice is welcomed. @Foxy @Scratch @Ashez @Woody @EvzeyWales let me know on your thoughts.

The last one might be narrow but you can play wide to balance it out. You might find i might actually work. Alot of people play narrow with wider formations so whp says it cant work the othet way around 😉
