Season 2 - Update 2

The journey continues south.

Italy 🇮🇹 CB - 2 Goals Required

I was hoping that it wouldn’t take me as long to get across Italy as it will do in @Mr Tree epic journey but with a CB it can take a while even to get 2 goals.

The CB I used was already at the club as I had signed him in the summer but he had yet to find the net.

He got off to the perfect start though as he scored in his very first game to help us reach the League Cup final.

 

It was another four games before he got his 2nd and ticked off Italy for me.

 

Vatican City 🇻🇦 GK - 1 Goal Required

Vatican City is within Rome but is a nation of its own and in fact is the smallest country in the world. It has a population of around a 1000 and covers 110 acres which makes it smaller than Central Park in New York. It’s most famous resident and head of state is of course the Pope who is the head of the Catholic Church.

Unsurprisingly there aren’t any footballers with Vatican City as there nationality so instead I went another way.

 

Obviously a Pope should be my guide in The Popes own nation.

If you look above at the game Mancini got his 2nd goal you may notice that Pope had a chance to score on his first appearance up front but missed a penalty.

He also preceded to get injured in that match as well! He missed four matches in the end.

 

Once he was back it still took him a while to get the goal I wanted and in total it was 8 games until he scored. It was an important goal though as it came away at Juve and helped us win the 1st leg.

There wasn’t much time left in the season but I still moved on.

Greece 🇬🇷 ST/AM - 10 Goals Required

I made the short trip across the Ionian Sea to Greece and back to looking for a striker or attacking mid to get me 10 goals. With potentially 8 games left in the season I was fairly confident I would be close to ticking Greece off or maybe have completed it by the end of the season.

My player of choice joined for £7m from Club Brugge.

He joined with a bit of a knock though which meant he missed his first game.

He wasn’t very prolific when he did get fit again and finished the season with 4 goals in 7 games although he did help us get to the Champions League final.

So at the start of season 3 I carry on in Greece looking for another 6 goals to move on.

I completed another 6 nations in season 2 meaning I have visited 12 so far in my journey.

It wasn’t a perfect season but making the Champions League final was real progress after going out in the group stage last year and of course I dominated in domestic football including an unbeaten league season.

You must be sick of trying to score with goalkeepers now, it’s soul destroying at times to say the least!

Donis has been a slight disappointment so far but he might come good next season.

I think I need to take blame for that as I just stuck him up front and didn’t change the tactic and although it gets results it doesn’t play to Donis strengths.

Season 3 - Update 1

I ended season 2 still in Greece with 6 goals needed from Donis before I could move on.

Greece 🇬🇷 ST - 6 More Goals Required

This was what he looked like going into the season and I think I might keep hold of him once he has finished as he looks pretty good now.

 

It didn’t take him long to get the final goals he needed as I had the CWC which provided 3 goals before the season had even started even if I was done over by PSG just as they had done in the CL final a month before.

 

That left just 3 goals to get and he knocked them off in the first three games.

It took him 12 games to get the 10 goals he needed which is far from prolific but he got the job done in the end.

 

Cyprus 🇨🇾 CM/WB/DM/WM 5 Goals Required

I found another gem in the island of Cyprus or at least in North London as he joined from Spurs. He doesn’t have much quality as a striker but I still think he will get the job done with minimum fuss.

 

Nine games is ok and he even got an extra goal just in case during his final match.

 

Our form is looking good as well and it would be silly for me to change a winning tactic.

 

Turkey 🇹🇷 CB 2 Goals Required 

My Turkish CB is probably familiar to many of you as he is a good signing in this years game I believe and I wanted to try him out myself so he will be definitely staying once he gets the goals and playing in his best position to see how he develops.

 

You know I said above that it would be silly to change a winning tactic?

Thats what I did though and a loss and draw later it wasn’t looking a good decision. A 10-0 win with a brace from Kabek made it look a bit better though so time will tell.

 

Bulgaria 🇧🇬 GK 1 Goal Required 

It’s time to head back into the heart of Europe and from Turkey the best route is into Bulgaria.

I never see much point spending big on a GK as it seems to make little difference in how quick they score so I spent £45k on this guy.

 

It took him 10 games to get his goal but the main story is in the CL as I crashed out in the group stage after making the final last year. The loss to Shakhtar and then home and away defeats to Arsenal did for me and although we rallied with a win over Standard and a 6-0 annihilation of Shakhtar its wasn’t enough.

It’s back to the Europa for us after winning it in season 1.

It was a penalty that got Bulgaria completed.

Penalties always seem a cheap way to complete a nation with a GK but hey a goals and a goal and it always leads me to do a little dance across the living room when I get that sweet sweet GK goal.

I head into the Balkans next and it’s back to another striker.

Season 3 - Update 2

I have progressed a long way round Europe in two and a half seasons with 16 nations visited so far. We now head into the Balkan regions which encompasses 7 nations.

Macedonia 🇲🇰 ST - 10 Goals Required

The nation that gave the world Alexander the Great also gave me an Alexsandar as well but would he be great?

 

I certainly don’t think he could claim to be great but he just about scored over a goal a game so he was more like Alexandar the just above Average.

 

Albania 🇦🇱 CM/WM/DM/WB - 5 Goals Required

I have been too nice to myself recently with my player picks but in Albania there wasn’t much quality to choose from so this was as good to myself as I could get.

 

His good aerial and ok pace meant he didn’t do to bad and got the 5 goals in 8 games so he turned out to be £12k well spent.

 

Kosovo 🇽🇰 CB - 2 Goals Required

Compared to my Kosovan though £12k was huge money as this lad cost be £1k. He started with a goal on debut and I though he would get the job done in 2 games but a few average performances meant it was his 5th game before he completed his total.

Montenegro 🇲🇪 GK - 1 Goal Required

I think this must have been my best GK performance yet as he got a goal in his third match for me and in a European quarter final.

 

Serbia 🇷🇸 ST - 10 Goals Required

With the potential of 10 games left if I got to the Europa League final (which I didn’t) I was hoping I could complete Serbia before the end of the season. In the end I missed out by three goals so season 4 will start back in Serbia.

 

The map is getting very crowded but it shows good progress but also so huge empty spaces still to be visited.

Team Performance

I saved over my back up of the file with my Beano save by accident so I don’t have the screenshots of the matches I played so just a summery of the competitions will have to do for this season.

It wasn’t a great season really with just the League, FA Cup and Super Cup to show for my efforts.

 

You might notice a different team logo by my name and that is because I decided to freshen things up and move clubs. There wasn’t many options that interested me but I fancied managing in Germany so I took the Stuttgart job.

Shame you couldn't get the region done before the season's end but those were some lets say... "interesting" player choices but im sure the pool to choose from wasn't that great.

They did the job required and im sure you'll get the Balkens sorted fairly quickly especially now you have renewed impetus with Stuttgart. 👍

Having looked at the squad I inherited at Stuttgart I think progress may slow a bit in season 4!!!

Season 4

With the move to Germany I had less matches to play this season as Stuttgart weren’t in Europe.

That means I can do the whole of season 4 in one update.

Serbia 🇷🇸 cont.

I was still in Serbia when I left Benfica so I had to take Nikola with me at a cost of £9.75m. He only actually needed 3 more goals to complete his 10 goals so I could move on.

He got those 3 goals in the first 4 matches of the season but with 2 coming in the first game I was hoping for quicker.

 

 

Bosnia 🇧🇦 5 Goals Required

The next stop was Bosnia and this decent looking CM.

 

The results of the team were good but Kapic didn’t prove to be prolific in front of goal as it took him 13 matches to get the 5 goals he required.

 

Croatia 🇭🇷 CB - 2 Goals Required

I spent £26k for this 18yo regen who looks like he could develop into a good CB in the next few seasons.

He wasn’t too bad in front of goal either as he took 7 games to get his two goals although they both came in his 6th and 7th appearances so he was getting better as he went.

My next planned destination was Slovenia but they don’t have many players in the DB and only one GK which was the position I needed to use next. The trouble was he is injured for 3 months and I don’t have the patience to wait so I needed to take a different route and hope I can find a way back to Slovenia at some point although that won’t be easy.

Hungary 🇭🇺 GK - 1 Goal Required

That meant I turned east instead and went to Hungary as I had to change my planned route. I did find a decent GK though so hopefully it would pay off.

 

It didn’t prove an easy ride though land although the team kept winning most games he simply couldn’t find the net. On and on it went and 17 games into his run he still hadn’t got the one goal he needed.
 

This went on until the final match of the season and the final minute of the season when we won a penalty. He had missed a few already but this time he made no mistake and he was finally done.

This was a successful season as we won the league although we weren’t very successful in the cup.

 

The main thing is though that I managed to tick off 4 more nations which isn’t as good as I had been achieving in Portugal but then I played a lot less games in Germany.

It’s pure frustration at times when trying to get a goalie to score. It can look like they are just never going to ever score. Still plenty of progress made on the journey.

Nothing wrong with a bit of Cervi but I had had my fill after using him last year.

This was the worst of the lot tbh although I can’t complain as I have had GK score after just a few games as well.
