Career Rob tries the Neymar/Mbappe Challenge - The End

Fresh from the end of our Warriors career I wanted to give another challenge a go. I opted for one of those that I created, which I probably seems really egotistical but it gave me a chance to try a different tactic and the Champions League final gave me the urge to give it a go.

The challenge is here:

In brief, you play a season at PSG with Mbappe playing right inside forward and Neymar left inside forward. Anyone else can play anywhere else.

Your score is:

• Both players’ goals;
• Both players’ assists;
• League goal difference;
• League points 

At PSG you get around £400-500m to spend due to the double transfer window so you really get to construct your own squad. I intend on an A and B team, with the A team playing league games as that’s where the points mostly are.

Because you get around £200m at the very start of the game, then something like 2 weeks later when the transfer window officially opens, another £200m or so. 

So for example, if you start a new game with PSG, buy Pogba for £200m, that wipes out your transfer budget, but a week or so later, the french window actually opens so get another fresh budget.

Spot on. Plus just shift all your money to wage budget immediately also works.

Half-way update

Here are some tidbits from half-way through...

We had a couple of good results, but by the end of August the results settled down a bit. We had the standard first month boost you typically get when debuting a different tactic than the AI is used to.

Neymar also got an injury right at the start, which was horrendously frustrating as this challenge is targeted towards just two people.

I also found this funny. The best young player in the world getting mentored by Wilfred Zaha.

Bad luck with the Neymar injury although with it being in August he won’t have missed too many games I don’t think.

August is pretty much once week so it was only two or three.

On a tangent, I do think the forum could do with a bit of a rule with this. I.e. in one season careers, if a player gets injured for a period of time I’ve often just jacked it in. Should I have still posted them? In a long term career like a 1kc you obviously don’t jack it in, but the shorter ones are so injury dependent. My highest score in the Liverpool Front Three challenge was an almost perfect injury season, but there were three or four attempts between my second and final Vibe attempts that I never posted.

Final Results 

 

Transfers

We did a lot of business, essentially ripping apart the whole squad and signing a new one. 

I wanted attacking players and opted for players in the tier beneath world class. They are obviously excellent, but I could get Bruno, Lemar, and Ziyech for a combined value of less than De Bruyne would cost.

A few were squad filler-uppers, mostly signed in January... namely Sisto and Zaracho to cover injuries.

 

Team Performance

Pretty much as expected we dominated the league with the A team and lost in the Champions Cup, with the B team, the first time we played anyone good (Chelsea).

As the goal difference and points contribute towards the score we can take 221 points forwards with us so far.

We did get a lot of 2-4w injuries and it was doing my head in. Then I realised that, like Ian during the Warriors save, I had forgotten to replenish my physios. Oops!

Neymar also got another one month injury in April.

Kylian remained injury free.  

We got a 3.46 goals per game overall, which I will add to Foxy’s gpg leaderboard.

Player Performance

This is how the boys looked at the end:

As you would expect with the injuries, Neymar was the worst performing of the two. 

He got 65 points for us (goals + assists). Adding our carried forward score of 221 that gives us 286 so far.

Kylian got 79. 

Which gives us a final score of 365. The assists let us down, but everything else held its own so I am very pleased with that.

Thanks Smog. I took the rather lame ‘score a shedload and hope they get enough’ routine rather than anything too clever. Not that I can do clever, mind. I look forward to your attempt!
