Thanks lads.

Decent episode last night of Strictly. When they switch to two dances in the week you really do notice the differing levels of talent. Hope you all enjoyed it.

Badge 02 - Results

Dancing is exhausting.

I tried this dance three times with three different tactics. I won’t go in to too much detail, but the last attempt was my best and the one I will post. It’s also the one with less injuries - Messi, mostly - so how much is down to tactics and how much is down to luck, I don’t know.

Transfers

You get a lot of money at Barcelona. Not only do you get a large transfer kitty, but players are valued high and free up a lot of wage money that you can also move to transfers.

I tried to generate 18 or so first team players that I could rotate, with 4-5 more that would come in towards the crazy end of the season when you need to pretty much rotate the full team.

Team Performance

Decent. I’m always fascinated by how some folk on here can score a lot of team goals and win pretty much every game, especially in the first season. I tend to find it’s one or the other unless it’s a 1kc.

Results

All three passed the 30 point benchmark.

I had Messi on penalties and free kicks, yet he turned out to be the worst contributor. I guess the injuries didn’t help.

Suarez did well and continued doing well until the end, which was pleasant.

Neymar was the man I built the team around. I knew from previous attempts that his stats, being younger, seemed to maintain better by the end.

That gives me a score of 199. Obviously that’s a more than decent score, but the OCD in me is gutted we didn’t pass 200.

@Scratch, please can you add my score to the leaderboard? Thank you.

Thanks for reading!

Excellent score Rob, and very sound reasoning focussing around the younger Neymar. Hadn't considered that myself.

Thanks. I’d figured it out after a few goes.

The only other things I would do is bother to change set piece taker as Messi does decline a bit and also switch tactic more. Also, I think you almost need two tactics for this: one for three folk that score and assist, and then another for two for when one is injured. I never really did the latter which probably lost a lot of points, usually to Griezman . I’m doing a test now to see whether that makes much difference.

That's a great score mate, second on the leaderboard!

Yeah, building the team around Neymar makes sense. I left him as a third wheel which probably didn't help me much... And good thinking about a a backup two person tactic. I'm just doing what might be a DT at the moment (might be as I probably won't write it up) and just yesterday decided I'd fall back to a 1 striker tactic when one is injured. Makes a lot of sense.

Attempt #2 - Rob Dances, The Encore

Like an itch that won’t go away, not getting past 200 last time really, really got on my nerves. With an older tactic of mine working well in the Bruno challenge I thought I’d give this one last go to see if I could pass my own personal benchmark.

Transfers

A lot of them. A lot of part exchanges, generic transfers, transfers with sell-on clauses, etc. I ended with a small squad, but a pretty awesome one. I don’t know about you guys but with the amount of substitutions you can make in season one a smaller squad of higher quality, with versatile players, seems to really work in the shorter challenges.

Team Performance

At one point, with six games to go, Madrid were winning the league and I was pooping myself. Two 1-1 draws from them let me leapfrog them as I had a relatively easy run in. They did us over two legs in the Cup though.

We also got a GpG of 3.66. @Titjes can you add me to that leaderboard please?

Player Performance

Suarez got a two month injury:

It coincided with an international break, which saved some missed games, and I played him not fully fit in first halves of some games in a desperate attempt to keep goals and assists amongst the three. There were a few 7-10 day injuries which meant a few missed games for the boys too. I do think the Badge challenges rely on injuries a bit too much - i.e. if Messi got a long injury at the same time I’d have jacked this in, despite us doing well.

In terms of scoring:

  • Neymar scored 40 and assisted 45, totalling 85;
  • Suarez scored 32 and assisted 16, totalling 48;
  • Messi scored 76 and assisted 20, totally 96.

With us winning the league and the players scoring as they did we passed the benchmarks.

Our total score ended as 229. I finally passed 200! @Scratch, please can you update my score on the leaderboard?

Thanks for reading!

Massive score mate! Have moved you right to the top of the leaderboard. 😄

Great job with Neymar, he can be really fantastic if you use him right, but many struggle (including me), so impress with that. And Messi didn't do too bad either. Shame Suarez got injured or you would have been pushing for 250!

Now are you thinking of trying again and going for the 250? Have I planted that in your mind? 🤣

Thanks. As always, the business ends of the season seems to destroy these challenges. Neymar was on all of the side set pieces, with Messi on the middle. Don’t know if that helped much or not. Going to give your Chelsea one another go shortly using Kai in the Bruno/Messi role to see how it goes.

I am indeed, well I haven’t done the challenge at all yet and it seems like a good one to try with that tactic as the players should fit it well. Should be a good test so we’ll see how it goes.
