• Messi as a poacher? Perhaps not fully utilising his talents...
• Herrera instead of Busquets or Henderson? Literally Herrera is a “Henderson-lite” I.e. similar attributes distribution, but a bit weaker across all aspects.
• Handanovic instead of Sczcesna in goal? The 36 year old is not our long term choice *sigh*

Geek: 100% yes. It’s the inverted moneyball principle, how do you beat others with limited resources? Any player below 30 has their potential + sell on fee included in their current value, but over 30’s are only priced on their current ability. We’re not overpaying like everyone else.

Gary: that actually makes some sense.

Geek: plus FMM players love wonderkids, so they’ll be in high demand - so we have far lower competition for our players. Plus AI managers aren’t going to develop that potential as well as a human manager - so basing on current ability is a good bet. Plus managers are less likely to steal our players mid-season (who can afford their wages!). There are just so many reasons.

Gary: But what happens after one/two seasons, when your players’ age or retire?

Geek: This could last for more than one season?! Nooooooooooooo!!!

Chief Scout:

Gary: what do you think above this over 30’s policy?

Scout: It’s great! My life is much easier - fewer players to search through! Do you know how many good LB’s there are ages +30? Just one. Easy ... Have an old version of FM on the computer, so did all my searching on that. Simple. 

Gary: you said ‘an old version’. Just how old? Does that explain Aubameyang, Herrera, and Alderweireld? 

Scout: FM17. Great version. Anyway, what’s wrong with star striker Aubameyang, and new Man Utd signing Herrera, and how can you question the sheer class of Alderweireld! ... although he would be a few years older, and even slower than before, what do you mean ‘how does that explain ...’ - Oh god, what have I done?!

Chief Accountant:

Accountant: $57m! For Busquets?! There are better midfielders for half that. Then  $46.5m for Aubameyang? We may as well just have burnt that cash. Plus $60m for Alba?! Luke Shaw is 20% of the price. And don’t get me started on $13m for Alderweireld - they should have paid us to take him!

Gary: seems you’re not a fan of this over 30’s policy?

Accountant: if you don’t know who the bargains are, then a Moneyball-style recruitment rule makes sense to get great value. But we all know who the FMM bargains are, so limiting your talent pool is crazy + leaves you with old overpriced has-beens. Terrible idea.

Gary: how do you think the owner will respond to your criticism?

Accountant: you’ll tell the owner what I said? This interview is going on TV? Oh I’m so going to get fired.

Gary: Difficult times here at DanEnglish FC. They need to win the league to keep fans on-board. They also need it to get the free player at the end of the season. But can Messi + co. do it? Let’s see as the new season starts.

Why? Would give us a decent view over time of who in our squad is doing what - without being much extra effort (and no extra screenshots) for you!

Could just use the detailed>stats view. But It would mean 2 screenshots per team, rather than 1 (I think).

Edit: Just checked and it would be 3 screenshots per team as you get 10 players per screen. So ignore me...

Appearances and Average Rating at the start of January & at the start of the summer.

Just a word of warning, it's a pain to get all the players shown easily and I wouldn't go down the route of having to cut and paste them into a bigger image. It's a PITA (Just look at my York save, I have to do it for so many pages).

While I also like @geordiekrispy’s idea more - be careful not to add too much burden on yourself.

• Perhaps the detailed stats page, sorted by # appearances, but only the first 2 pages per team (so misses off the few players who have the least appearances)?

Aguero? Possible. He’s my main backup behind Ronaldo + Messi so I’d expect him to get quite a few games / minutes / goals. I’d need either (A) Lewandowski, or (B) cash plus Di Maria or Tadic. Could reluctantly be open to offers.

Alternatively, someone who is more suited to the TM role (which your manager plays) is Aubameyang - especially as he has better aerial, strength and is has a few more years in the tank. Could do a straight player swop with Di Maria or Tadic. Open to offers.

To be fair - Tadic got most (4?) of those 7 assists in the league cup against lowly Millwall. But yes he’s still doing very well.

After looking at that, I need Aguero, he’s getting minutes. So both him + Tadic are off the table.

I’d probably do Aubameyang for Di Maria as a straight swop - Di Maria has only got a 6.8 rating for you so far.
