Career Rob tries the Defenderless Challenge - The End

@Foxy 🦊 comes out with some cracking challenges and this one is no different. It’s called the Defenderless Challenge.

In simple terms, you sell anyone with any shade of green in the defender positions. You then play a season, or at least until you get sacked, and then your goal difference in the manager profile screen is your score.

I’ve done a fair bit with Man City this year and will be using them as I think their squad is setup for my tactic.

Half-way update

So, a half-way update....which, shockingly, means I’ve gotten half way through without getting the sack.

This game here is a fairly good example of the randomness that the game kicks out. 

27 chances against 6, and we lose 2-1. In other games we would win 5-2. 

We are winning the league, just.

But we bombed out of the League Cup to a Niasse double where he proves himself to be a much more clinical player than Jesus. 

Hilariously we scraped through the Champions League group stage. Not going to lie: I thought I’d end up having to do a bit of a walk of shame with this.

I’ll put the rest of the challenge up soon, where you can see whether I end up surviving or getting the sack. This man really wants to know:

Looks like a decent start, few FMM typical results along the way. 

If you do end up getting the sack, it is definitely Carole Baskin's fault!!

The End

We are Man City. We have lots of money. The best defensive midfielders joined. I signed Can, then realised he has a green in defence so immediately got rid of him. He didn’t play a game for me.

This is my final management achievements:

I didn’t get sacked, which is an achievement in itself!

For a first go at this I am genuinely pleased with that. Liverpool were an absolute machine in the league and ran away with it in the end. Grabbing the FA Cup really pleased me too. We deserved to go out of the CL to Real Madrid.

And for my overall score? Here it is:

A goal difference of 57. Yeah we spent a bit, but at City we have the transfer cash and wage budget coupled with a very high board expectation. Maybe a lower league team with more games may be better? I don’t know. In hindsight I wonder if purposefully getting knocked out of the cups early and having the ability to play my strongest team for each league game may have been better too?

I’m sure someone will come along with a cleverer way of doing this, with a much better tactic, and smash a greater score, but I’m delighted with my completely honest attempt at it.
