As we have the cup final today I am going to change the format of the update a little. I will first cover Team A’s two matches in the league and then the Champions League quarter final and finish with the Coppa Italia Final.

I will also try my best not to tag @DutchTony in this update unless he gets a goal.

Team A vs Bologna Home

Winning the league seems a pipe dream at the moment as the gap between us and Juve is 8 points (we have a game in hand, this one in fact) and the games are running out.

We still have a top 4 place to fight for though and if Juve do slip up I want it to be us that take advantage. Wins like this certainly help any change we do have and it was nice to see @eekim28 Ajer get on the scoresheet in this match as I haven’t been able to tag him as much as I would have liked.

This wasn’t vintage stuff but who gives a damn at this stage of the season. A certain @Woody can stop his moaning about being underrated as well as he got an 8 in this match.

 

Team A vs AC Milan Away

We lost in the first Milan derby so some revenge and local bragging rights would be great.

Just as with the Bologna game it wasn’t a huge win or a dominant performance but we get those bragging rights all the same.

No I never signed someone! It turns out that “Pantovic” is @1759 Ramos 

The game must have heard your rant @Woody as you got another 8!!! 

 

All good in the league but what about the cups.

Team B vs Galatasaray Away

We only have a 1 goal lead heading to Istanbul so a good performance from the B Boys is needed here.

They did enough. It was an inform @sharaziuk Manolas that opened the scoring and from there it was always going to be tough for the Turks as we had the Away goal. The tie was pretty much secured when @Gideon_J Stones made it 2-0 on the night and 3-0 on aggregate and even a Derdiyok goal just before half time wasn’t enough to spark a come back fro Gala.

Let’s not mention Koulibaly in this match 😮 The rest of the attackers all had good games though and it was another 8 for Mr consistent @Lapalapalup Lindelof as well who has really impressed me in this save.

 

Team B vs Lazio Neutral

Ok hands up who thought we would get to a cup final in this save.

This cup run as been a real team effort with Team B beating Torino in round 1, Team A knocking out Fiorentina in the quarters and then both teams beating Juventus in the semi final.

Lazio are having a good season and sit a few points behind us in 4th so this was never going to be a walk over. The first half was a tight affair early on and then in the 41st minute of the match.

A pin point cross from @Lapalapalup Lindelof and a neat finish from @Damilare Luik makes it 1-0.

 

This put a spring into all Team B’s step and we pushed on looking for another. As it happened a chance presented itself just 5 minutes later A freekick on the edge of the box and @Damilare Luiz standing over it.....

Ok a decent bit of a deflection on that but it went in and it’s 2-0 at the break.

In the 2nd half Lazio pushed on looking to get back into a game that seemed to be running away from them.

It took them until the 77th minute to find a way through as Caicedo fired home to give them a chance.

It was just a consolation though as they simply couldn’t find an equaliser and the cup was coming home to CentreBack HQ.

Hero’s every last one of them.

A really successful update all round and we are on the cusp of a top 4 finish which can be confirmed in the next match as we have a 9 point cushion from 5th.

In the battle for the best Team it is still advantage to the B Boys as they have a 1 point lead over Team A.

It is getting interesting in the player competitions though as we have a new overall leader in @Damilare Luiz. It is also tight in the Team A defender and midfielder categories as @Titjes Kehrer, @Woody Skriniar, @Rob Upamecano and @eekim28 Ajer all have 7.44 ratings. 

I have used goals scored to spilt them so Kehrer and Upamecano are still in the lead at the moment.

We have just one month left in this save now.

With just 4 league games left and 12 points to play for it is going to be tough to make up that 5 point gap between us and Juve but we can still secure 2nd which won’t be too shabby. Oh yeah and we have the small matter of a Champions League semi final against Real Madrid as well.

If we lose in the semi to Real the Lazio game won’t count in the team or player competitions as it will mean that Team A will have played one extra game.

Well it was another update where Koulibaly didn’t score but I think I managed not to tag @DutchTony this time.

Judgement day! 

We could be league champions and European Champions by the end of this update or neither. 

I am going to post the League games first and then we will deal with what happened in the Champions League after that.

Team A vs Atalanta Home

It is getting to the point we’re only wins will do if we stand any chance of winning the league. So it was a disappointing time to be FMM’d 🙁

It is hard to fault the lads except for there finishing in this game as they created plenty of chances but just couldn’t deal the killer blow. It could have been worse had @samhardy O’Shea not popped up with a goal as he continues his quest not to be the worst rated player in the squad.

This game did confirm a top 4 finish for us though.

One thing leaps out from this game and that is the 63 attempted passes by @Ran7777 de Ligt with 54 finding there target and one assist. he also made 10 interceptions so he was a busy boy both in with and without the ball.

 

Team A vs Sampdoria Away

With Team B in Champions league action Team A had another league game and a almost certain must win as Juventus could win the league a couple of days later with a win if we failed to get all 3 points.

After the disappointment of the last draw this one may come as a relief. Sampdoria fluffed 4 CCC in this game and more shots overall so a 0-0 was a decent result considering the performance.

@Woody Skriniar is playing like a man on a mission towards the end of the season and he really could pip @Titjes Kehrer to best Team A defender especially as he was suspended this game.

 

This result meant that if Juventus won there next game they would be champions.

It was a valiant effort but we have come up short in the league but we missed out to a very strong team. We can still get 2nd though.

Team B vs Udinese Home

What ever happened against Real it brought Team B out firing on all cylinders in this match.

The red card had little effect in the match as the game was already won. The goal scoring was started by @smoggy90 Marquinhos and the @DutchTony Koulibaly got himself tagged for the right reasons.

Who says you need possession to win football matches 🙂

An excellent performance all round with everyone getting 7’s or above. The goal from @DutchTony Koulibaly means he is now neck and neck with @1759 Ramos in the race for topscorer.

 

Team A vs Lazio Away

Our final league game was against Lazio who would be out for revenge for the defeat in the final last month. Depending on our CL semi final result this game may or may not count towards the final Team A v Team B results.

This game didn’t come to life until the final quarter of the match as we saw 2 reds and two goals. We looked like we could push on for the win when Wallace got his marching orders but we never took advantage. We then had @Ran7777 sent off and Lazio did take advantage of that as they took the lead. It looked like Team A would sign of with a defeat but Cometh the hour, Cometh the man as @samhardy O’Shea leaped like a Gazelle to head home and secure a point.

I was gutted that O’Shea’s goal wasn’t enough to get him the MotM award but it should be enough to see him finish well above the worst rated player.

We got ourselves 2nd place in the league and pretty comfortably as well. We finished well behind Juventus though as just too many dropped points meant we could never quite get close to them.

 

Let’s see what went down in the Champions League semi against Real Madrid.

Team B vs Real Madrid Home

This is the toughest team we have come up against so far in this run and we started at home against the European champions.

We needed to come away from the home leg with something before we travelled to the Bernabeu. What we came away with was a lead and even better a clean sheet so no away goals to worry about.

It could have been even better had we not had goals from @sharaziuk Manolas and @DutchTony Koulibaly disallowed. In the end it was a @Damilare Luiz goal that separated the sides and meant we go into the 2nd leg with a slender lead.

This was a really good team performance but we will need another one in the 2nd leg if we are going to make it through.

 

Team B vs Real Madrid Away

How many teams come away from the Bernabeu having had more possession, more shots on target and more CCC than Real?

Not fucking many and especially not a team of CB’s.

It’s an achievement in itself to finish second with this team but to win the Italian Cup is fantastic. The Champions League is just a nice little bonus now so there’s no pressure on the boys.
