You don’t know just how much I want to win the semi final and go on and lift the trophy. The league is going to be tough to win as we just don’t quite have that consistency at the moment which isn’t a shock considering it’s a team of CB. The Champions League will be tough once we take on the big boys (even Benfica might be too much) but the cup might just prove the chance to lift a trophy with this team which would be a nice little achievement 🙂

February is a huge month both in that fact we have 7 matches but also we play Juve 3 times in league and Cup and we have the 1st leg of our Champions League tie with Benfica. The numbers of games and the magnitude of them means it could be a season defining month for both Teams and the club as a whole.

I am going to post the February update in two parts so that the update isn’t too long.

Team B vs Cagliari Home

We saw Team A blow a slender lead late on back in January mostly thanks to my sending off. We now see Team B do the same.

In truth Team B probably did enough to win this match..... just. One thing that has impressed me so far in this save is the penalty taking and @Damilare Luiz made no mistakes as he fired home. 

Neither of the two lads up front could really get into this game but they did perform better than some with @CamelXCVII Lemos, @Ashez Ginter (shame that 😉) and @Gideon_J Stones all getting 5’s.

 

Team A vs Juventus Away

The first of this months trio of Derby d’Italia matches is the Coppa Italia semi final 1st leg at The Juventus Stadium. Team A have already beat Juventus this season in the league and a repeat performance would be spot on here.

All the goals came in the first half as we take an advantage in the tie back to the San Siro. @Titjes Kehrer got his 4th goal of the season but 6 minutes later that was cancelled out by super Mario Mandzukic. Deep into first half injury time though @1759 Ramos slotted home.

The 2nd half was a professional performance but we didn’t create much and another goal would have been nice just to cement the lead.

MotM performance from Kehrer as he got a goal and assist in this game. There was plenty of other good performances as well with @Mr Tree Mepham and @Woody Skriniar impressing at the back and @Ran7777 de Ligt and @eekim28 Ajer putting in a strong performance in midfield.

 

Team B vs Fiorentina Away

It’s back to league action for a couple of games and it’s back to winning ways for the B Boys as they travelled to Florence.

Team B produced plenty of chances in this game but one thing that is amusing and frustrating in this save is some of the animations of the shots when they go well well wide from both teams. When player who’s shooting was on point today though was @smoggy90 Marquinhos who slotted home after a pass from @Lapalapalup Lindelof.

Both @sharaziuk Manolas and @DutchTony Koulibaly had quiet games again but we saw an incredible 19 interceptions from @Sonneratia Dier.

 

Team A vs Juventus Home

It’s now time for the league instalment.

A win here would really have drawn us back into the title race but it wasn’t to be. This was an even match although Team A created more shots on target and the only CCC. The game got very nervous towards the end as @Nucleus Van Dijk got his marching orders but the beauty of having a team of defenders is the fact they can all defend and we held out for a point.

I can’t quite work out what Van Dijk did to be sent of as he won his only tackle in the match so it must have been violent conduct I guess. The lack of finishing ability meant that the forwards didn’t get very high ratings and it was the rock at the back @Woody Skriniar who got MotM.

 

That brings Febuary Part 1 to an end. We have 3 big games in the 2nd part with Benfica in the Champions League, Napoli in the league and then the 2nd leg vs Juventus to come.

So yet again the A team bottle it and @Foxyfails to control his players, you couldn't make it up. The easiest of the big fixtures due to being at home and you jokers think a red card is acceptable hoping we'll bail you out!!

Team B vs Benfica Away

This has to be one of the better draws to get in the Champions League as Benfica are beatable although they are still a good team so nothing is certain.

Ok maybe they aren’t that good!

We blew them away in the first half with @smoggy90 Marquinhos getting 2 and then @DutchTony Koulibaly getting himself tagged for all the right reasons as he completed the scoring.

This leaves us with one foot in the quarters and Team A can get the job finished back at the San Siro in a few weeks.

Lots of good performances in this match but it always sticks out to me when @URz Maguire gets an 8.

 

Team A vs Napoli Away

Napoli aren’t having an excellent season but they aren’t too far behind us so a good result here could increase the gap between us and the teams outside the top 4.

Based on match stats this looks an even match but the score line tells a different story and is all that matters. We dealt a blow right on the stroke of half time when @samhardy O’Shea rose like a salmon to nod home from a corner and once that went in all the fight and believe went out of this Napoli team, which is understandable really. The game was made safe when @1759 Ramos tucked home a penalty just before the hour mark.

Nearly everyone put in solid performances in this game but @URz Maguire found 2 games in a row a bit much as he replaced the suspended @Nucleus Van Dijk.

 

Team B vs Juventus Home

Team A had battled to get a 2-1 advantage going into the 2nd leg of this Coppa Italia semi so could Team B get the job finished.

Of course they could.

It was that man @DutchTony Koulibaly with 2 goals that did the most damage with a brace that sandwiched a @Damilare Luiz penalty. This and the Benfica game really was Team B back to there goal scoring best.

Lots of good performances and I think it is @Sonneratia Dier who stands out with 7 tackles won, 11 interceptions and 14 out of 16 headers won as well.

This sets up a cup final against Lazio towards the end of the season but I’m not sure which Team will play it as it depends on how far we get in the Champions League.

That all leads to Team B being back in front by a point from Team A and both teams have played the same number of games.

No changes in the best players except for some changes in AvR.

In the league we now sit 3rd 6 points behind Juventus but we also have a 5 point gap from 5th.

We have at 5 games next month and with 4 league games hopefully we can get a few wins and close the gap at the top.
